Even God stays away from the village of BETHANY'S SIN.

For Evan Reid, his wife Kay, and their small daughter Laurie, the beautiful house in the small village was too good a bargain to pass up. Bethany's Sin was a weird name, but the village was quaint and far from the noise and pollution of the city.

But Bethany's Sin was too quiet. There were no sounds at all...almost as if...more

This was another enjoyable read from Robert McCammon.
A small, beautiful town with an unusual name seemed to be a perfect place for a family to start anew. But, of course, it wasn't.

This book combined ancient mythology with present day horror.(Well, present day for 1980 or so, because that's when this book was originally written.)Oh, and did I mention the Amazon women?

I would recommend Bethany's Sin to any Robert McCammon fan. I also would recommend this one for any lover of horror set in a sma...more

After reading the reviews posted here, I approached Bethany's Sin with a degree of caution as it wasn't that highly rated. But having enjoyed almost every other Robert McCammon book I've read, I didn't think it could be all bad. I'm happy to say that I found this book most enjoyable. Bethany's Sin is a small Pennsylvania town where the main character Evan, his wife Kay, and his daughter Laurie move. It's soon apparent that life in this town is not as quaint and peaceful as it first appeared. Kay...more

I usually love McCammon's books but I could not get into this one at all.

Back Cover Blurb:
When Evan Reid brought his wife and small daughter to Bethany's Sin it seemed the perfect setting. A small village, far from the noise and pollution of the city, it was quaint and very peaceful.
Too peaceful. There were no sounds at all....almost as if the night had been frightend into silence.
Then Evan noticed there were very few men in the village, and that those he knew of were crippled. And sometimes he...more

This is a book that I read close to 20 years ago and once in a blue moon it just pops in my head. the characters were so interesting and the story was so different from anyhting that I have ever read. Mccammon is probably one of the most underrated horror authors. I think he is at least on equal footing with Stephen King...not as bold and dark though.

Very cool book. Anyone who has any interest at all in Greek/Roman myth needs to read this. It's been a while since I read this book, but I would likely read it again if I could ever find copies of Roberts' books at the library - or anywhere.

The end of this book was a lot like a head on car collision, just WHAM!, and then nothing else. It was engaging story, with a nice scary hook to give you a few nightmares. But the ending was like a brick wall.

An enjoyable, if somewhat far-fetched read. Not a patch on McCammon's later works. You can really see in his later novels how he has grown and matured as a writer.

Vividly written; the mind's eye can see the action PERFECTLY, in surprisingly clear detail, like if you were watching a movie. I feel this would be an *AMAZING* horror flick, btw.

This is not the story the book's blurb led me to expect but it was still an enjoyable schlocky horror yarn. Our hero and his family move into an American small town that's almost too perfect. Predictably its pretty facade hides a grotesque horror.
It is slow to get started but once the enemy reveals itself about halfway through it becomes a real page-turner. I don't want to give too much away but the there some splendid horror set pieces and a terrific inferno of a final battle.

Didn't enjoy this. The writing was excellent but I'm not a horror fan.
Lynne
too contrived, not enough mystery and too much revealed
Clint Romag
A decent horror novel about a small town with a dark secret where men seemingly vanish.

Another McCammon hit!

It was good, not great. Pretty obvious twist, writing wasnt the best especially considering the fact that McCammon has turned out classics like boys life, etc.

definitely worth a read if you want some campy horror in your literary diet.

This was a fairly enjoyable reading experience. While not groundbreaking in the horror field McCammon's writing style is pretty darn hard to match. He is really a master at setting a scene and the story line is guaranteed to keep you involved with the characters.

This is really a 3 1/2 star rating. I can see how McCammon has improved in his story telling, comparing Bethany's Sin with Baal. I liked this one a lot better. Looking forward to his 3rd book, The Night Boat.

Another storming novel from McCammon, this has great characters, well realised locations and atmosphere and it's creepy as hell. Great stuff, highly recommended.

An older book of Robert McCammon's and definitely not his best. It's an interesting concept but I just couldn't get into the characters or the story.
Charles
This is not McCammon's best, but it's still pretty damn good. In fact, this is my least favorite by him, but it still gets a 4.
Mike
Not sure if I like it yet. Actually gave up after a few pages. Must just be me--he's usually a good author.
