Gypsy Knights is an interesting, suspenseful, and fast moving adventure. Durriken and Dilia grow up a great deal as the story progresses. Their relationship grows at a natural pace as well while they learn more about one another.
It took me a few chapters to get into the story but once the plot started moving I finished the book in only a few hours. While the story takes place in the 1960's, some chapters occasionally take the reader to a scene that happened a few years earlier. I loved the sett...more

I started to read this a few days ago, but I was very distracted and really struggled to get into it, so I left it a couple of days and tried again today. The start is a bit shaky, but after a few chapters it really started to get interesting. What I really loved was the totally original storyline. Never before have I read an adventure so involved and unique that also wasn't complicated and hard to follow.

3.5 stars. This book is an action packed, adventure story. I felt like I was on a super mysterious treasure hunt while reading it. It was mysterious because I never quite knew what they were hoping to find that their final destination.
Gypsy Knights is a very suspenseful read. This was a like as well as a dislike for me. I liked that the books kept switching back and forth between different people and each time, you got another little piece of the puzzle. But, I disliked that the pieces you got...more

Gypsy Knights is different from other books I have read lately, and it was fun to read. I loved the sense of adventure, the mystery and intrigue, the Gypsy culture and the chess.
When I first picked up this book, however, I was confused by it. The first 50 pages or so, while action packed, were tough to pin down. The book jumped around from past to present and to different characters and I had a tough time following, even though the authors kindly put dates at the top of each chapter. I also had...more

This book was truly an enjoyable read with such an original storyline. Once you start reading, it’s one of those books that’s hard to put down.
The loss of his family has been something that Durriken Brishen has tried to come to terms with as the years have passed. The ancient chess set, one that he’s carried from an early age, is his only link to his heritage, and the memories of his parents, that he has left.

The Metz brothers have created a wonderful novel entailing family hardships, mystery, suspense, friendship and, of course, chess. It is extremely well written and held me captivate from the very first page. I especially enjoyed the way in which the chapters are set up. Each chapter title tells the place and time and, as there are multiple stories taking place at once, all leading up to the same event, the narrative jumps back and forth between the early 1960s and 1965. This tactic keeps the read...more
While I found this book to be a bit of a slow starter, it quickly picked up pace as the story progressed, and it turned out to be an enjoyable read. Vividly written, and filled with the intrigue of a good chess game, it's at once complicated and clear. Just when you think you know what's going on, there's an extra dash of intrigue. For example, Dilia wears a Red Queen on a chain around her neck -- is just a good luck charm or something more? I like that I was kept guessing about details like thi...more
Gypsy Knights is one of those indie author gems.
Chess, railroad, and Romani culture all play roles in making Gypsy Knights a story rich with culture and interest.
The writing in Gypsy Knights is very well written in a flowing narrative that keeps pace with the action. It is peopled with distinct characters who all add a splash of color to the story.
Gypsy Knights reminds me of a young adult Da Vinci Code told on 1960's American soil.
It has the fun idea of them being part of a giant, real chess...more

The beginning was a little slow, I couldn't really get into it too much, but then once you move past it, WOW, it's like a freight train going at full speed! Loved it :)

Gypsy Knights isn't the type of book I would normally just pick up and read, but I am really glad I was sent this one for review. When I first started reading I couldn't really make anything stick in my head for longer than a minute or two - which is more likely down to my personal life than the book itself -, but as I continued to read, I got more and more drawn into Durriken and Dilia's story.
