I was really disappointed with this one. It started out strong, but from chap 6 on to the end it lost something. A lot of somethings'.

I did like how we are shown the history of Calisto in the midst of the present time. I thought that was incorporated nicely and what kept me intrigued with the story. Especially when I would grow frustrated with these two stuck in their heads for the majority of the story and not really allow for the intensity we are told is there, to shine through.

Night Walker was a stellar read from new-to-me-author Lisa Kessler about a soul deep love that never dies.
Two hundred years ago Father Gregorio Salvador fell in love with one of the local tribeswomen, Tala. Secretly meeting under the veil of darkness they found each other’s soul mates in one another. When Tala discovers that she is with child, Gregorio decides to leave the church and start a new life with his love. Confessing his sins and asking for absolution, Gregorio rushes to join Tala – onl

Romancing the Dark Side Review:

Forsaking his life and driven only by vengeance, Gregorio is given immortality as a Night Walker and a second chance at love. Now living as Calisto Terana, a wealthy collector of fine art and pieces, he patiently awaits

I loved Night Walker, I really did, there was never a dull moment and I especially loved the old flashbacks which made us see how Father Gregorio after losing the woman he loved Tala lost his faith in the church and how to see her again became an immortal, a Night Walker.

When the book starts Kate is leaving Reno where she teaches music after she catches her fiancee with another woman. She realizes that she hasn't faced her parents death which happened a few years before and maybe rushed into a r

This is the first review that I have ever done that was very hard for me. I am sharing this with you because I feel that it needs to be said that sometimes as a reader we may run across things that test even our own boundaries not just as a reader but as a person. With that being said I have much respect for Authors who evoke emotions into their readers. It says a lot about the Author’s creativity as well as their writing capabilities. As a writer I know that to have a reader tell you that your ...more

I loved this, it's such a fresh approach to the whole "vampire" mythology. Lisa has spun a tale that kept me captivated from the Prologue right through to the last word in the epilogue.

The heroine, Kate was likeable she does have a tendency to run from her problems until she gets her head round what's going on, then she's there fighting with everything she has. Calisto had the mysterious yet gorgeous stranger thing down, the more we get to know him the more I fell in love with him. He's endured

Kate returns to her home town in San Diego after discovering her fiance with another woman. She has always been haunted by nightmares she can't decipher and by a feeling of loss and loneliness she can't pinpoint, but she has managed to make a life for herself regardless. Her nightmares come to her more frequently and change in nature too since she returns to San Diego and meets Calisto.

Lisa Kessler is a definite wordsmith. I enjoyed the language and descriptions in this story which added a strong, dark tone to the building of the suspense and the romance. The storyline captured the elements of romance right away, melding them perfectly with the dark paranormal elements to make the story crescendo at the end of each chapter while still leaving you wanting more.

The use of flashbacks was handled with skill, the transitions easy to follow making it like reading two books in one. A

Night Walker introduces me to another new author and a new take on the blood sucker. (Can’t call him a vampire.. he hates that romanticized word.. LOL) I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in this series!!!
Kate Bradley is reeling from the breakup of her engagement. She is more upset at the loss of her future plans and the betrayal than actually losing Tom. She heads home to San Diego to not only heal, but to finally deal with the loss of

Night Walkers, rogue monks in a secret Brotherhood, a megalomaniac monk and a love that spans centuries make for a great sensual paranormal romance in this first of Kessler's new The Night series.

This is actually two stories in one: 1) Calisto's life 200 years ago as Father Gregorio Salvador with his love, and loss, of Tala and 2) Calisto's life present day finding Kate and wooing her amidst the dangers of the Brotherhood. Kessler does a good job of handling the past and the present. Every time

I have started this review before I finished the book, which isn't something I normally do.
However, I cannot say I am loving this so far. But....I can't seem to help but keep reading it. I kinda want to know what is going to happen etc.

The priest's intent is very obvious and all of the hints etc are a bit silly because its really quite obvious.

I am not loving the character of Kate either. Hmm will update below when I have finished this which will hopefully be on my lunch break today.

I love this book! As you all know there is so many vampire books out there and really there is only so many ways you can spin a story line to make it different from all the other vampire books out there. Well, Lisa Kessler has done it......"Night Walkers".
This first book in which I hope will become a running series introduces us to Calisto. After the love of his life Tala is brutally murdered he seeks solace in her tribe and eventually becomes a "Night Walker". What is a Night Walker? You must r

This is not a book I would have picked up based on the cover. I read and reviewed this book back in 2011. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book!! It is about Kate Bradley, and it starts with some terrible things that are going on. Her parents recently passed away in a car crash, and she walked in on her fiance cheating. She is surprisingly unhurt by him cheating, and realizes she didn't love him like she thought she did. She moves into her parents’ hou ...more

It was a chore to read this book... seriously.
It's predictable as hell, I never got to like or care about the characters and the cherry on top was the vampire from Spain who couldn't speak spanish (other than 'si'... ooooh, sexy!!).

The best part is the cover and you can enjoy that without wasting your time reading what's in it.

I spend time on one of the paranormal book club sites on facebook, and Lisa Kessler’s name almost always comes up when it comes to recommendations. I had heard of her before of course, but this is the first book by her that I have read. And I think I picked a good one to start with!

Night Walker was a bit of a surprise to me. Lisa Kessler has created a vampire that isn't really a vampire. I think. I wasn't really sure what the difference was between the two creatures, but I loved Calisto, a Spanish priest turned Night Walker/philanthropist. Really what more can you ask for in a creature of the night? Oh and he's smokin' hot and really sweet.

I love the element of reincarnation that brings Kate into his life. The dreams she has really helps her in grasping her connection to C

Night Walker is a book about love that never dies. Please note that it is a dark paranormal that contains two rape scenes and a graphic murder. It is not a pretty book, but it is a good book. One of the biggest problems I had with this book was the feeling I'd read the book before - not trying to be funny here - but I could swear I've read this book before, at least a couple of years ago, but I couldn't find anywhere that said it was a reprint.

I don't remember where I first saw this book, but it is definitely one of those OMG-the-cover-is-amazing-I-need-to-read-this-right-now books. I am completely ecstatic that I did. Calisto left me dreaming sweet dreams all night long and Kate was an amazing protagonist. She was a little bit broken, but not so much that she was afraid to love again.

I always love when an author comes up with a new twist on an "old" character. In the case of Night Walker, it's putting a Native American spin on the vampire tale.

Calisto Terana is a Night Walker. He was given his powers by the Old One who vowed Calisto would live to see his love live in another life and be reunited with her. He willingly gave up the sun and accepted immortality for the hope that he would see is Tala again. He's lived hundreds of years waiting for that moment and not much else.

***slight spoilers***

Kate Bradley has strange dreams that seem to occur at the same time each year, but after her parents passed, she finds them recurring constantly. The strange thing about the dreams is that they seem so real and are about the same thing, her own death and a man that seems to possess her love and she returns the affection. After she catches her fiance with another women, she runs away from her teaching job as a choir director in Reno and returns home to San D

A little different take as most vampire books lately. I liked it, but I would rather have a more heroic lead.
Calisto used to be a spanish priest that came over to teach the natives and change thier ways. He fell in love with Tala a native and she was pregnant with his child. He confessed his sins to another Priest and told him he wanted to leave the priesthood and marry her. Tala was killed that same day and he was filled with wanting revenge. Calisto was made a night walker and told she would l

A story with eternal possibilities...

Where do I even start? This book was incredible. Now, I might be a bit biased because I've met the author and spoken to her many times, but this book, truly is a work of art.

Calisto Terana is a love sick man who wanted a second chance to love his Tala. He became a Night Walker and waited for centuries until Kate Bradley came along. She was the reincarnation of Calisto's true love. How sweet is that?

Calisto's real name is Gregorio Salvador, very Spanish indee

Wow! Goodreads just asked me for my city of birth and date of death... What if I could answer that? Would I live life differently if I knew for sure how much longer I had left?

“He stared down at her for a moment, wanting to heal every
cut on her soft skin. But he couldn’t, not yet. He needed to get her,
and her car, far from this place so neither he nor Kate would be
implicated in any way with the gruesome murder site.
It also meant he would have to drive.
In all his years, he had never driven an automobile. The closest he
had come was watching various assistants through the years as they
chauffeured him. He wasn’t sure he could even remember how to
start the car, but right now he had no choice.
Grudgingly, he got into the driver’s seat, and finding the lever
underneath, he pushed it back so he sat comfortably behind the
wheel. After trying three different keys, he found one that slipped into
the ignition.
From what he had seen over the past hundred years, driving was
not a complex operation, and he was an immortal with reflexes far
more keen than a human man.
How difficult could it be?
He turned the key and nearly jerked the wheel off the steering
column when the car surprised him by lurching forward. The car went
silent. The engine wasn’t running. What was he doing wrong?
He stared at the gearshift, wondering if he should move it. His
frustration reared up, but his agitation would not make the car drive
itself. He had to keep a cool head.
Not knowing what else to try, he pushed one of the pedals at his
feet to the floor and turned the key again. This time the car didn’t
move, and it roared to life. Grasping the gearshift, he jammed it into
the first position and glanced over at Kate.
Why couldn’t she have owned a car with an automatic
transmission?
Shaking his head, he put some pressure on the gas pedal and
slowly released the clutch. Thankfully the car rolled a few feet, but
without warning it jumped forward. He pressed the clutch back to the
floor before the engine lost power again.
Calisto slammed his hand against the wheel, muttering under his
breath in Spanish. At this rate it would take him all night to drive her
home.
The faded yellow convertible pitched forward again, threatening
to stall as he continued out of the parking lot, thankful it was late. The
streets were fairly empty. At least he wouldn’t get into an accident
with another car. Her car staggered ahead, lurching each time he
tried to release the clutch, bouncing and jostling them both until Kate
finally stirred and woke up.
§
“Are we out of gas or something?”
Calisto watched her with a tight smile. “Not exactly.”
Kate winced in pain when she laughed. “You can’t drive a stickshift,
can you?”
“Does it show?” Calisto pulled over, finally allowing the engine to
stall.
She nodded her head slowly to avoid more pain. “Just a little.
What happened?”
“You don’t remember?”
“I remember being mugged. And I remember seeing you, but
everything after that is blank.” She watched his eyes as Calisto
reached over to brush her hair back from her face, and his touch sent
shivers through her body. This wasn’t how she had hoped she would
run into him, but she learned a long time ago fate didn’t always work
out the way you expected.”
