, the first book in this series, so I had very high hopes for this story. Castle didn't disappoint me with this sequel.
Betrayal, forbidden desire, shattered dreams and an unlikely romance come together to make this a not to be missed read. I couldn't put it down and was so involved in the story I was surprised to reach the end so soon. I definitely want to read more about the characters in, and visit, Castle's Dark Dynasties world again soon.

If you haven't read Kendra Leigh Castle, you have GOT to add her series (plural) to your library! She is a strong writer and very descriptive leaving you unable to skip parts of her books!

I loved this book so much!! Great pace, world building and excellent characters. Jaden and Lyra are an amazing combo. Each one with different personality but they complement each other. The humor between them and the teasing back and forth was a pleasure to read.

God, this was a giant letdown after the awesome introduction we got in Dark Awakening. I don't know what it was, really. The whole book just felt off to me. The writing was stilted and not as polished. Several sentences and passages had me rereading because they didn't make sense. And the characters--though I liked Jaden, I didn't love any of them. Lyra was not my favorite heroine. I enjoy a strong female lead, but there is a fine line the author has to walk to make her strong and remai...more

I liked this one almost as much as the first and am glad that we got to learn more about Jaden. It was great to see glimpses of Ty and Lily in this one but although the continuation of that story is important, that isn't where the focus was for this book and I was ok with it. I would probably put this a 4.5.

I'll just come out and say it: I love this series and I loved this book. You all know how I feel about sexy tortured heroes. Kendra Leigh Castle has created an entire race of them in her maligned and enslaved Cait Sith. They are lowblood vampires, who are also cat-shifters. The highblood Ptolemy vamps kept them as slaves and tortured them for centuries. But in Dark Awakening, they were finally freed. And now they have a chance to pursue the happiness they've been denied all these years.

I liked this book even if I have not red the first one of the series. Not that was a big problem anyway, the author is very good in describing the world where her characters move, even if, IMHO, it was a little bit too complex, cat-vampire and werewolf? Aren't we looking for something a little bit too different from usual? Who cares anyway, the story was good.

I think I like this one better than the first although I didn't like it at first but as I kept reading, it grew on me and embraced me and won me over. The chemistry's really different too. I can't quite put my finger on it but it's like really fresh and luminous and open. And the concepts, ugh. Don't get me started on the concepts. OKay so I missed book one and missed the actual "meeting" between Lyra and Jaden our two star crossed lovers in Midnight Reckoning where apparently they didn't get off on a good foot and in fact really pissed each other off good fashioned! Really great PNR! I haven't read the first book in this series, but I'll be doing so asap. This novel easily stands on its own, so no problems there. I loved the heroine, Lyra - she's a really great alpha female without crossing over into bitchy or reckless. Jaden's a great beta hero as well, and I love how he supports her.
My only complaint is that the ending wraps up a little suddenly. I would have liked to see a bit more groveling from the pack, frankly, but c'est la vie...
