Two separate worlds ... One passion that binds them

Wild and passionate by nature, Lyra Black is not just any werewolf. She's the future leader of the powerful pack of the Thorn - if she can stay alive long enough to inherit the title.

One of the Cait Sith bloodline of vampire cat-shifters, Jaden Harrison has no interest in the wars plaguing the world of night. But when he...more

At first.. Its kinda slow but wow.. Building in an awesome story until the end.

I love the humor between Jaden and Lyra, a crisp humor that makes me smile.

I just love the entire new dimension of paranormal world that Kendra Leigh Castle built for this series..
A Cat-Vamp! That's extraordinary, whom mated to a she-wolf.. Made my head spinning in a good way..

The end of the story, as sweet as it is, makes me really wondering, what will happen to the couple in the future (I wish I had my answer in...more

Out for a walk to clear his head, Jaden heard a female in trouble. Of course he knew he needed to check it out and help the female from her would be suitors’ unwanted advances. But to his surprise it was Lyra, the sassy werewolf that stirred his interest the last time he seen her. He knew he needed to intervene, but also knew his help was not going to receive a warm welcome considering the foul way he treated her at their first meeting.

Lyra couldn't believe that this vampire cat-shifter dare thi...more

I love this new and exciting world that Kendra Leigh Castle has created with her Dark Dynasties series and the second novel in it, Midnight Reckoning, continues the thrilling journey into the dark world of vampire factions and bloodlines by adding werewolves into the mix now!

Since the Lilim reformed with his best friend Ty and wife Lily, taking in the Cait Sith's, Jaden Harrison has felt adrift – without purpose. Taking a walk to clear his head Jaden smells wolves and pursues the smell...more

The second book in Kendra Leigh Castle’s Dark Dynasties series was a lovely way to introduce the world of the werewolf into the plethora of Vampire Dynasties introduced in the first novel.

First introduced to the readers in Dark Dynasties, Jaden and Lyra must in Midnight Reckoning find a way to keep their desires for each other from overwhelming them. Werewolf Lyra is as strong and self-sufficient a woman as any you can come across in novels these days, but she quickly finds herself inexplicably...more

Midnight Reckoning is the second installment in Kendra Leigh Castle’s Dark Dynasties series. The first book is Dark Awakening which I reviewed back in July 2011. Immediately after finishing Dark Awakening and reading the sneak peak at Midnight Reckoning I wished I had it in my hands to start reading. It’s rare that I like the second installment in a series better than the first. A lot of books suffer from a sort of “Sophomore Slump.” While Midnight Reckoning started out a tad s...more

I loved Dark Awakening , the first book in this series, so I had very high hopes for this story. Castle didn't disappoint me with this sequel.

Betrayal, forbidden desire, shattered dreams and an unlikely romance come together to make this a not to be missed read. I couldn't put it down and was so involved in the story I was surprised to reach the end so soon. I definitely want to read more about the characters in, and visit, Castle's Dark Dynasties world again soon.

It is not necessary to have r...more

MIDNIGHT RECKONING by Kendra Leigh Castle is an exciting paranormal romance. It is Book 2 in the “Dark Dynasties” series, but can be read as a stand alone, with some characters from ” Dark Awakening” reappearing. This is a fast paced, action paced, tension filled, adventure between a vampire and a werewolf. It is the story of Lyra Black, a werewolf, whose father is the Alpha male of her clan, the powerful pack of the Thorn. And Jaden Harrison,a cat-shifter,of the Cait Sith bloodline,a tortured hero wi...more

Midnight Reckoning by Kendra Leigh Castle is something to read when you want a paranormal romance that takes all the standard elements and throws them in a blender! The mix that pours out makes for a very enjoyable read, while adding a few interesting twists to the usual recipe.

We met both the hero and heroine of Midnight Reckoning in the first book of Castle's Dark Dynasties series, Dark Awakening (reviewed here). And when they met, they pissed each...more

If you haven't read Kendra Leigh Castle, you have GOT to add her series (plural) to your library! She is a strong writer and very descriptive leaving you unable to skip parts of her books!

This is a great PNR series! I love a book that surprises me! This series is different from her MacInnes werewolf series. After reading that, I did not expect there to be so many levels in vampires & other factions. And the twist of a woman in charge and a man stepping back? Now that threw me! Great twist in...more

I loved this book so much!! Great pace, world building and excellent characters. Jaden and Lyra are an amazing combo. Each one with different personality but they complement each other. The humor between them and the teasing back and forth was a pleasure to read.

What I loved the most was that it mixed vampires and wolves. When it's well done this can only give an amazing paranormal book. All the cultural difference and struggle to get what's best for Lyra and her pack, it was so well written th...more

A vampire who can turn into a cat. A she-wolf who wants to be the Alpha of her pack. Not a "normal" match in the paranormal world, but Castle makes it work. Jaden is strong but caring. He knows what it is like to not be allowed to make his own decisions. He knows what it is like to have to fight for his freedom. Lyra loves her pack but wants to be recognized for her own skills not just as The Alpha's daughter. A wolf who mates with her, even if she is unwilling, will be in a strong position to b...more

Jaden, a powerful Cait Sith bloodline of vampire cat-shape-shifters, has been battling to find his place in the vampire dynasties. When he rescues Lyra from a violent attack from a fellow werewolf pack member, he finds himself intriqued by the desire he feels for her. The concern he feels for her when he finds out she will be fighting for her right to follow in her father, the Alpha's, footsteps amazes both of them. Lyra is quite the spit-fire though and manages to try and drive him away at eve...more

God, this was a giant letdown after the awesome introduction we got in Dark Awakening. I don't know what it was, really. The whole book just felt off to me. The writing was stilted and not as polished. Several sentences and passages had me rereading because they didn't make sense. And the characters--though I liked Jaden, I didn't love any of them. Lyra was not my favorite heroine. I enjoy a strong female lead, but there is a fine line the author has to walk to make her strong and remai...more

A great second installment to a new series. With the new Cait-Sith /Lilum Dynasty struggling to get established amidst the Ptolemy's hatred and the other dynasties indifference, Jaden feels torn and confused by his new freedom. But in his midnight wanderings, he stumbles across someone he didn't think he would ever see again...except in his dreams. Lyra is a werewolf Alpha's daughter looking to do the impossible...become a female Alpha but there is sooo much going against her. Jaden saves her fr...more

Midnight Reckoning, the second book in Castle's Dark Dynasty series, picks up a few months after the end of Dark Awakening, with the newly freed 'gutter blood' Jaden adjusting to his freedom - and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his immortal life - when he happens onto a wolf shifter planning to improve his position in the world by forcing the werewolf 'princess' Lyra into a mating. Jaden's help gets here out of that sticky situation, but leave him unable to get her out of his m...more

My kindle died when I was at 52% of reading this - I was going crazy waiting for my replacement when I realized I had Kindle PC on my computer! DUH!

Glad I was able to finish this one! It was great! I loved the whole Vampire/cat thing :) How Awesome would that be!

We start off with Jaden (Love that name) taking a little stroll around town in his sleek cat form. Bigger than a house cat, but smaller than a bob cat. The night was quiet and he was enjoying his time. Until he heard the harsh words of...more

Cat-shifting vampire Jaden Harrison (real name, James Dennis Harrison III :p) used to be a Ptolemy's slave, he faced years of torture, with scars on his back to prove it. His turn into vampire is not a happy story, his life as human practically has been stolen from him. Now, he's a member of the new vampire dynasty, the Lilim, but he still feels restless. After saving a she-wolf from an almost-rape, Jaden ends up teaching her. Lyra Black is the daughter of the Alpha of Thorn pack. There hasn't b...more

I liked this one almost as much as the first and am glad that we got to learn more about Jaden. It was great to see glimpses of Ty and Lily in this one but although the continuation of that story is important, that isn't where the focus was for this book and I was ok with it. I would probably put this a 4.5.

We know from the first book that Jaden has been through a lot and he doesn't really trust anyone. During the time he was helping Ty and Lily he had a run in with Lyra which didn't necessarily...more

I'll just come out and say it: I love this series and I loved this book. You all know how I feel about sexy tortured heroes. Kendra Leigh Castle has created an entire race of them in her maligned and enslaved Cait Sith. They are lowblood vampires, who are also cat-shifters. The highblood Ptolemy vamps kept them as slaves and tortured them for centuries. But in Dark Awakening, they were finally freed. And now they have a chance to pursue the happiness they've been denied all these years.

What I Loved
The Series
This is book 2 in the Dark Dynasties series, Kendra writes her series with each book having a different couple but an arching storyline connecting them all together. I love how she writes her series, even though I come to love the previous couple I always look forward to getting to know other characters that have been introduced and slightly talked about. Plus we still get to see how the previous characters are doing because they are still interacting with the new character...more

Honor, betrayal, and unusual alliances are the basis of Midnight Reckoning. Lyra Black, daughter of the Thorn pack alpha, is a she-wolf who feels it is her birthright to become pack alpha and is willing to prove herself in a battle with other wolves that could well end in her death. Jaden Harrison is the vampire cat-shifter (Cait Sith) who falls in love with her. To say theirs is a forbidden love is an understatement; Lyra will be excommunicated from her pack if she and Jaden become mates. Queen...more

She was the alpha's daughter with aspirations of taking his place as the leader of the Thorn pack.

I liked this book even if I have not red the first one of the series. Not that was a big problem anyway, the author is very good in describing the world where her characters move, even if, IMHO, it was a little bit too complex, cat-vampire and werewolf? Aren't we looking for something a little bit too different from usual? Who cares anyway, the story was good.

Mi è piaciuta questa storia, anche se è la "seconda puntata" di una serie di cui ho perso il primo libro, non che questo sia stato comunqu...more

I think I like this one better than the first although I didn't like it at first but as I kept reading, it grew on me and embraced me and won me over. The chemistry's really different too. I can't quite put my finger on it but it's like really fresh and luminous and open. And the concepts, ugh. Don't get me started on the concepts. The way Kendra Leigh Castle intertwines these concepts makes me squeal. The concept of forbidden love, although cliche, was presented anew with the prospect of an int...more

OKay so I missed book one and missed the actual "meeting" between Lyra and Jaden our two star crossed lovers in Midnight Reckoning where apparently they didn't get off on a good foot and in fact really pissed each other off good fashioned! So as the story opens Jaden is out for a nightly stroll and comes across a heated argument between a man and woman. The man is making advances on the woman who turns out to be Lyra and she is not welcoming them so to make a long story short Jaden steps in and...more

A Dark and Decadent Delight

To say that vampires and werewolves aren't exactly bosum buddies would be the sort of understatement that wins lifetime achievement awards, and the Cait Sith, a vampire bloodline enslaved by the highbloods until recently, well, they're vampires who can become large, predatory cats. You do the math.

In fact, Cait Sith Jaden Harrison tends to think of werewolves as nothing more than smelly, brutish thugs, though that's a pretty elitist opinion for a recentl...more

Really great PNR! I haven't read the first book in this series, but I'll be doing so asap. This novel easily stands on its own, so no problems there. I loved the heroine, Lyra - she's a really great alpha female without crossing over into bitchy or reckless. Jaden's a great beta hero as well, and I love how he supports her.

My only complaint is that the ending wraps up a little suddenly. I would have liked to see a bit more groveling from the pack, frankly, but c'est la vie...

A deliciously intriguing plot, a fantastic cast of characters and a steamy romance, makes Midnight Reckoning one hard book to put down. She has a way with words, and strings them together so eloquently...more

I should totally be ashamed. I read Midnight Reckoning before reading Dark Awakening, the first book in the series, but it turns out that’s ok! There are characters in Midnight that are from Dark Awakening, but the book certainly stands on its own, so no worries. The stars of Midnight Reckoning are Jaden Harrison and Lyra Black. Jaden is a Cait Sidh and a vampire, so yes, that makes him a shape shifting vamp who spends a b...more

Midnight Reckoning, Dark Dynasties #2, by Kendra Leigh Castle
Grade: B

“The maybe you should do more then just stand there if you want me to learn the right way , O Exalted Master of Kitty Fu.”

Jaden Harrison never goes out of his way to good deeds. As a Cait Sith, a vampire who can also shape shift in a large cat, he had always been treated like the slave that he was. Now that the Cait Sith are free and part of a new dynasty called the Lilim Jaden finds himself restless and one night happens to sa...more
