Well, this book had so much potential in the beginning of the story. Well paced and the background story well told. But alas it fizzled out in the middle of the book. The undyling love, for each other after only meeting 15 hours before. Not to mention the sexfest that went on when they were being chased by the enemies. I mean really? That has clusterfuck written all over it.
That being said, I'm hoping that the next installment will be better. Fingers crossed.

Wow bring your oxygen when reading this book. From beginning to end its non stop action and suspense. I couldn't put the book down till I finished it.
This book literally picks up 10 days after Red Heat where we saw U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Clint Walker jump into the sea and swim away with stolen plan's from the Chinese. Clint has to make it back to the US with the chip and isn't having much luck. He finally decides to stow away on a cargo ship that headed out into the Alaskan Bering Sea....more

The premise was interesting and I've enjoyed other things by Bruhns, but this story was an unrealistic, rushed dud.
Clint is running from the Chinese, desperate to get stolen intelligence back to Washington. The reasoning behind his stowing away on Sam's ship is preposterous, but I went with it. He and Sam are so hot for each other, they fall into bed within hours of meeting (and while Clint's in the middle of an op!) - but Bruhns does a fade-to-black. Again, aggravating, but I dealt with it an m...more

Clint Walker is unfortunately being pursued but, not by the hot female captain of the cargo ship he just stowed away on. He is now being chased across the icy seas of the Alaskan Bering Sea by Chinese agents who are after a highly classified data card containing top-secret military intell. Now they are planning a nasty surprise for the entire crew of the Île de Cœur , including its pretty captain and him.

If you're looking for "white hot" action, then this is the book for you. A gorgeous female ship's captain with "father" and "ex-husband betrayal" issues - most heroines have these angsts - and a red hot Navy SEAL on the run from the Chinese bad blokes. Couldn't get any better than that!
There were a lot of things which didn't "gel" in this novel and one reviewer has outlined most of them, but you couldn't fault the fast-paced action/adventure aspect. I liked the hero and didn't want to slap the...more

"White Hot", the second book in Nina Bruhns' "Men In Uniform" series, picks up where "Red Heat" left off -- with US Navy Lieutenant Clint Walker on the run from Chinese operatives who are trying to recover their stolen SD card containing highly classified military plans. Clint has made it to the Alaskan Bering Sea where he's stowed away on a freighter commanded by Captain Samantha Richardson. Of course nothing goes smoothly. Clint needs to get to Seattle while Sam is headed for Nome. Then there'...more
I really liked this book and of course it's second in a series ( I seem to always read books starting with the 2nd or 3rd book for some reason lol). I was fine with the fallin in love after 15 hours. Yes, it doesnt happen in real life (maybe it does who knows), but thats what books are for all that wishin and hopin for it to be real even for a few hours. I do have one complaint. Those trust issues? Get that, even understood it the first few times Samantha voiced it to herself. But after awhile ,...more
its been awhile since I've read a Nina Bruhns book, but this one starts out fast paced, action packed and a lot of sizzle...I started it around noon today...and in between "household stuff" and reading I'm already on chapter 9...very good, can't wait to see where the story goes....and well to say the least the front cover is HOT!!! Excellent book, the contents live up to the title of the book!!! Lots of intrique, mystery, military action, piracy and of course a really good ending....and who coul...more

First Thought When Finished: I need a man in uniform *sigh*
What I Thought of the Story: Nina Bruhns is quickly becoming one of my favorite Romantic Thriller/Suspense writers. She knows how to write a good story to go with all the smexy. In fact, I think I am a little in love with the way she ties her series together with little winks/nods to the books/characters that have come before. In Whit...more

3.75 Stars. Clint "Wolf" Walker is a Naval spy on the run, trying to get out of Alaska with 5 Chinese assassins on his tail. He ends up a stowaway on Samantha Richardson's boat. A shipping trawler on its way back to Seattle. The run is important to Sam and her crew as this is her first time as captain and to prove to her s.o.b. of a dad that she is capable of doing the job. Clint knows he has to get the captain on his side, he is pleasantly surprised about not only who the captain is, but what s...more
I have been waiting for this book for so long and sadly it ended up being average. The romance didn't work for me and at the end I wasn't convinced of their HEA because Sam the heroine had major trust issues(father troubles and ex-husband who left her) and they actually hadn't known each other long, a few hours of sex followed by a scary hijacking. A very hmm romance.
3 3/4 stars. Nice action-packed military romance. A little disingenuous at times and I have a little trouble with Captain Samantha Richardson's actions and she is a little too helpless and ineffectual for my tastes. There is a fair amount of violence and the story is just a bit uneven but it is a fun read nonetheless.
This one was rolling along quite well. I liked the action, thought the premise was believable, but then I hit a point where everything didn't work for me. The H/h had set, realized that they didn't use a condom, the both proceeded to freak out that she was pregnant for pages and pages. That would have been ok except that they were in the middle of their ship being high jacked by Chinese bad guys, people have been killed, others are being held hostage, and they are hiding. First off, stopping for...more

While I've enjoyed the first book in the Men in Uniform series as well as other Bruhns titles, this was a huge disappointment. I'm sorry but it is just not reasonable to expect that in the middle of running the ship or rescuing hostages that our heroine would run off to have sex.
While the suspense was riveting, I found myself so confused at times too. I think it's because I know absolutely nothing about ships. It was kind of hard to believe how quickly Sam and Clint got together. Everything in the story culminated within at least a 48 hour period. Awfully quick to get naked, survive danger and fall in love. But I love Nina Bruhns writing, so I'll forgive her. Can't wait to get Lovejoy's story next.
