Prize of My Heart was a very sweet and touching read about a father's determination to reunite with the son that was taken from him years before. And, rather unplanned, through the course of it all...he finds love as well! This is the type of book where, after you read the synopsis and think you know how things will go, the book takes an entirely unexpected turn to surprise you!

I loved this book! I received a softcover book from the publisher and it read fine. But I enjoy using my Kindle and so I purchased it to read the story.
The War of 1812 is over and a privateer, Captain Brogan Talvis, can search out his son, Ben, now five-years-old. Having acquired money through his exploits, he has arranged for a ship to be built in the shipyard of the family who adopted his son. Prize of my Heart by Lisa Norato is the perfect book to read if you need to escape for a couple of hours. I know - I read it while recovering from surgery. It has all my favourite attributes in a book - romance, suspense, a leading man that you wish were real...sigh. Yep, I forgot about pain when I was reading this book.

Rich language evokes such incredible images that I swear I can still smell the tangy scent of salt in the air! Norato's descriptive writing will send you back to a time when heroes were larger than life just like ex-privateer Brogan Talvis. (Insert collective sigh here!) A tortured soul filled with the grim determination to right a wrong on his own terms. Is there anything more swoonworthy than a reluctant hero in navy dress? The kind that has a keen sense of justice and the gall to set out admi...more

I think my favorite part of this book was the interesting information about shipping in the 19th century - so much detail, but blending seamlessly with the story-telling.
On the other hand, I felt like the plot itself had more than a few holes. It seemed strange to me that the hero, who said over and over that family and patriotism were the most important things to him, would plan to go against the laws of his country and steal a little boy who someone was raising as a son. And then the fact that...more

Lisa Norato sweeps you into 1815 Massachusetts with a great cast of characters including the lovable and playful Drew, the elegant and caring Lorena and the rugged and gentle spirited Brogan. Prize of my Heart captured me from the very beginning and kept me reading till the final page. My first book by Lisa Norato and I loved it, what a wonderful story of the larger then life Brogan Talvis-Capt'n.
Brogan lived his life looking for his "Prize of My Heart". This man had many disappointments in such a young man. He found an inner strength that let him move forward. He loved the sea and his men had total respect for him, I liked reading the passages about the sea and the nautical terms used.

Oh to be able to sail away into the sunset with a hero like Captain Brogan Talvis. Uniform? Check. Bad boy privateer? Check. Devoted father and romantic? Check, check. Tortured soul in need of some tender loving care? Enlist me now!
In all seriousness, Brogan's storyline was truly poignant and heart wrenching. An orphan who was devalued and tormented throughout his childhood only to be betrayed later in life and deprived of the only family...more

Prize of My Heart by Lisa Norato is quite a good book. I really love the cover picture and the story line is excellent. I like the surprise ending and didn’t think it would have that kind of twist near the end, but was well pleased with it.

Captain Brogan Talvis is in search of his son. Searching has consumed him for years and now he is looking right into the boys’ eyes! What comes after is the heart of the story. Lorena Huntley is not sure why but she finds herself wanting to spend more time with the Captain. As the story continues you find these two characters bonding over the young boy, Drew. This story is definitely more of an adventure then a romance. There is even a kidnapping and house fire!

I was instantly draw into this book, The cover was both beautiful and intriguing, the woman o nthe cover seemed to have a secret or to be waiting for something or someone perhaps . My heart became invested the very moment I read that Brogan was looking for a son that had been stolen from him. I wanted to know why Ben had been taken from his father and what kind of woman would do that to him. I really enjoyed watching Brogan grow in presence of Lorena. Though the back flap of Prize of My Heart by Lisa Norato says, “Haunted by thoughts of Lorena in peril, Brogan is compelled to choose between the boy he longs for and the woman who has captured his heart,” the story focuses more on the struggle of Captain Brogan Talvis and his past in trying to retrieve his son than of the action.

Review: "Prize of my Heart" was the first book I have ever read by Lisa Norato, and let us just say it left quite an impression. Not in a bad way, but not in the best way either. I know, I know. You're thinking, "Really? This girl never finds any book that is to her liking!" That's not entirely true, I just find most books in need of tweeking (No, I'm not a perfectionist. I understand everyone has to start somewhere!). Anyway, it was a good book....more

In the realm of Christian romance, this book by Lisa Norato is one of the better ones I've read. The romance portion itself is predictable, withing the first few pages, but the plot is not. Just as you think you've got it figured out, something changes and the action picks up. Norato has written a fine piece of historical fiction also. I can tell it's either been researched heavily or she is familiar with shipping history because she is from that area. I almost felt like I was on the ship from h...more
