If I could give this book a ten star rating, I would! To be honest, I'm putting it right up there with Redeeming Love! Yes, it's that good.

Andrews pens a novel that thrusts readers into an emotionally gripping story, capturing the beautiful poetry of the Songs of Solomon and transforming it into magnificent, passion-filled prose that moves the heart. She skillfully works in the historical and biblical implications found in Kings and Chronicles, expounding on the lessons we find inside those ancient pages while masterfully immersing her readers into another time and place, surrounding us with characters and "Sunday school lessons" that become living, breathing people who capture the heart and stir emotions.

Love's Sacred Song is a romance unlike any other. Andrews sweeps us into a passionate story that sheds light on those often hard to comprehend poetical phrases found in Songs of Solomon.

While true to the events and portrayal of the characters found in Kings and Chronicles, Love's Sacred Song draws its main plot from the book of Songs, spinning the poetry into an entire novel. The dialogue between the Lover and the Beloved is worked into the dialogue of the main characters--but it's done in such a way that it never comes across as corny. In addition, Andrews weaves some proverbs into the plot, as well as using Ecclesiastes to create a well-rounded story and character. She even throws some psalms in there, too!

I have not only studied the kings of Judah to a various extent, but I've also delved into studying Songs of Solomon and the theories that surround it. Having delved into these subjects, I give Andrews one of the highest marks in capturing its accuracy historically, Biblically, theologically, and romantically.

While romance is usually geared toward women, I believe both men or women can not only enjoy this novel, but value the depth of Biblical truth etched into the pages of this story.

Love's Sacred Song not only points to the most sacred song ever created, but will earn a scared place in reader's hearts as well.

Well, this book was a long one, but beautifully written to the point that it captured my heart and I spent two solid days reading it until I finished. It had everything I love to read in a book. Deep truths about faith and God's love, intense emotion and intrigue, and people shown as flawed, but redeemable because they are loved by a Holy God who only wants to claim their hearts and devotion. I appreciated the way the author wove the actual verses of the Song of Solomon as "shepherd's verse" into the story--it was very creative! I didn't like the hero (King Solomon) at all (even though its possible that the author captured the personality of a spoiled, selfish king perfectly), and the male characters' emotions were always extreme and ended in tears, and that made them a bit unbelievable. As I read the last page of my latest read, I smiled. It was a delightful read. It inspired me in ways that I can hardly explain. This is a love story, but it is so much more than just that.

As I was thoroughly captivated while I read this book, in the back of my mind I constantly wondered how much was accurate and historical. The answer Ms. Andrews said is “As much as possible!” This was not a passing fancy, this subject of Solomon and his beloved bride, in fact, it took twelve years of dedication and research to produce this wonderfully written novel. Yes, it is still a novel. We do not know the actual words spoken between the characters, but Ms. Andrews has ensured that the words she wrote were biblically, and historically accurate.

I was utterly captivated by this book. The characters leapt off the page and into my heart. Solomon was a man who loved his father, loved God, and was torn between those loves and ruling his country. Arielah was an amazing young woman, born to marry Solomon, but the love she offered him was something he never experienced before her.

I have never been a real fan of the book of Song of Solomon. I never really understood the Shepherd Prose before now. I will never read through this book lightly, again. Each word was thoughtfully chosen for the recipient, with love, tenderness, and intimacy.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I have enjoyed some other biblical/historical fiction, however this will forever be a favorite.

Honestly, I feel I much plug another book in this review, The Days of War. While it is a completely different book, the back ground of the relationship between David and Beniah helped me to fully understand the resulting relationship and loyalty between Solomon and Beniah. You by no means need to read it to get the full value of Love’s Sacred Song, but it was delightful for me to see the two books compliment each other so much!

Mesu Andrews in her book, Love’s Sacred Song, beautifully captures The Song of Solomon in a way that opens your heart to Arielah’s deep, lasting, pure love for King Solomon amidst his many wives, concubines, and infidelity. Mesu’s years of studying the Song of Solomon brings the book to a whole new level of understanding. One I am so grateful to read. It helped me understand the book in a new, fresh way.

Mesu’s descriptions of the land, the ways of the King, and the harems involved reveal the ancient way of life in a King’s castle. There are many inner and outer dangers that must be acknowledged, with Might Warriors ready to disarm their enemies. The characters are genuine and heartfelt, though not all are necessarily likeable. They fit into the time era and circumstances. The descriptions of the farm land, with all its beauty and hard work, were starkly compared to the opulent life in the castle.

I find Arielah’s love for King Solomon to be a foreshadowing of Christ’s love for us. Beautiful in description, forbearing and forgiving while being treated despicably.

Mesu kept her novel true to Scripture as we know it. Obviously King Solomon had a specific love he adored whom he wrote about in The Song of Solomon, and Mesu did an excellent job in exploring that relationship. A “must read” for all Biblical historical readers. A keeper!

I pondered this as I read Love’s Sacred Song by Mesu Andrews. This novel tells the story of an innocent shepherdess and how her love changes a king. The main character, Arielah, is the beloved daughter of Jehoshaphat, a leader in Shunem.

Though Jehoshaphat is a godly man, he is not able to control his sons, and they subject Arielah to cruel abuse. No wonder when Jehoshaphat comes up with the plan of giving Arielah to Solomon as a treaty bride to keep peace in the north, she jumps at the chance. Marriage to a handsome king sounds like a dream come true, but things in Solomon’s harem aren’t much better. There, the plots, jealousies, and intrigues launched by the men and women of the royal court, almost destroy Arielah. She is maligned, cheated, used, and beaten. Not exactly what I expected in a love story. Yet against this evil backdrop, Arielah’s life shines like a beacon because of the love and forgiveness she freely shares with all—even her rival wives in the harem!

When he compares his character to that of his young wife, Solomon discovers he has much to live up to. And he constantly falls short. The story shows his inner weakness as he allows his women to cloud his judgment. But time spent with Arielah refreshes him. Their relationship reminds me of the quote that says a loved one “knows the song in your heart so well she can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.” Considering how Solomon lived his final years, I hope he really did have someone special in his harem to inspire him while he was young.

As for Arielah, her story had me asking questions. Where is God when the folks who are supposed to protect and care for us fail? Why does He allow it? When we are helpless and hurting, does He care?

And my answers? As Arielah learned . . .

Sometimes He takes away the people and things with which we prop ourselves up to remind us that He “will never leave us nor forsake us” and to teach us that we “dare not trust the sweetest frame” but must trust ourselves to Him, first, last, and always.

Song of Solomon isn't a book of scripture that I have spent much time reading, and I'm not as familiar with the story of Solomon as I am with King David. However, since I really enjoyed Mesu Andrews' first novel, Love Amid the Ashes, I looked forward to this one. Don't you just love that cover? It's gorgeous. And just like Love Amid the Ashes, Mesu does a fantastic job of capturing biblical times. Her characterizations are terrific and her descriptions sumptuous.

I both loved and hated this book. I thought it was a gripping story. I pretty much read it straight through, and I couldn't predict what was going to happen next. This is a beautiful Biblical fiction account of what might have happened to lead Solomon to write the book "Song of Solomon". I was moved by this book and devoured it to the end. I cried at the end, I'll admit it. A lovely, heart warming and, at the same time, sad tale of Solomon and his treaty bride, Arielah, who believes that God has chosen her to teach Solomon how to love. After Mesu Andrews brought Job's story to life in her debut, Love Amid the Ashes, I was left eagerly awaiting her next novel. I must confess that beyond a rather rudimentary knowledge of Solomon's reign and his famous wisdom, I don't think I've ever given the man his due (I've always been more of a David girl). :) And while the Song of Songs is among the most passionate of texts, I never really connected with it -- perhaps because that slim book always seemed to lack context, a place in the greater narrative of the Old Testament that would put faces to the passionate declarations in those short eight chapters of verse. But ever since I began reading Love's Sacred Song, I feel as though God has been whispering the intent of that book to my heart, birthing within me a love and understanding for this book within the context of my faith. Through Andrews' intricately plotted, brilliantly recreated, colorfully evocative portrait of ancient Israel, the purpose and passion of Solomon and his Shulammite bride spring to life on the page in such a way that -- if one is willing -- you cannot help but be changed and inspired by the journey.

Love's Sacred Song is epic in its scope, embodying everything I love about biblical fiction, making characters on the pages of scripture once again living, breathing people full of passion and life, leaving you cheering for their victories and heart-broken over their (all-too relatable) mistakes. Andrews restores Solomon's humanity, much needed as his legendary wisdom too often leaves him seemingly unrelatable. Here Andrews gives us Solomon early in his reign, a young man attempting to establish himself outside the shadow of his famous father, often paralyzed by the fear of failure and subsequently blinded by pride and the trappings of position. Arielah is a woman you'd like as your friend, a window into the world of a royal harem and its politics and heartbreak, incomprehensible by today's standards. Yet, such was the reality she faced -- and that makes the challenge and victory of the love illustrated in Solomon's sacred song all the more powerful.

More than a love story, though, Love's Sacred Song speaks to the heart's cry of the Father and the unfathomable depth of the love He longs to lavish on each one of His children -- if we but accept it. I am not a reader at all. I have not read a book for pleasure in years, simply because I get bored and can’t sit still long enough to delve into the story. Once again, Andrews has created a novel which makes me want to dive into the scriptures. Like Love Amid The Ashes - the story of Job and Dinah; Love's Sacred Song sheds new light on King Solomon's life.

When I realized what Mesu Andrews set out to do with this story, I was almost to Part 2, and I had this moment where I wanted to clasp the book to my heart, squeal like a girl, and jump up and down. "This is Song of Solomon!" I kept repeating to myself.

Richly woven Biblical Fiction, based on Song of Solomon.

I was surprised at how easily I was swept into another time and place, with Love's Sacred Song. Mesu Andrews expertly mixes historical fact, with well-crafted fiction, creating a page-turning, Biblical romance that is nearly impossible to put down.

This is Mesu Andrews' second novel and the first one I’ve read of hers. This book Love’s Sacred Song was the historical fiction story of Solomon and Arielah’s love story.
It was quite an interesting story and makes me want to read Solomon and his other books in the Bible again. I like to see if the books of historical fiction I read and the Bible share the same story or close to it.

Between Love's Sacred Song and Love Amid the Ashes, Mesu Andrews has gained a new fan! I love the combination of rich history and creative imagination in her books. Love's Sacred Song is about King Solomon and his beloved in the beautiful verses of the book of Song of Solomon. The verses that are shared at the beginning of each chapter add depth to the story. Mesu Andrews has done a BRILLIANT job with her newest release! Centered on the book in the Bible, Song of Solomon, Love’s Sacred Song takes you back in time to the beginning of Solomon’s reign.

Although he was the Son of David, Solomon was lost most of the time in his connection with God as is written in 1 Kings. In Love's Sacred Song, it is with the wisdom of Arielah. his treaty bride, that he is reminded of the love and mercy that his father once taught him.
