Quick rundown...

What I enjoyed:
Hope & Logan: Surprisingly sweet couple. Very refreshing change of pace. Just wish more of the Sanguinar characters other than Tynan played a part in this. We don't get much back story or history lesson about the mysterious Sanguinars till the very last page which was a missed opportunity IMO. Your hero is a Sanguinar why withhold all that information till the very last minute? Missed the boat there.

Andreas: New leader of the Slayers. Very intrigued by this g
The lead shifts from the Theroni warriors to the Sanguinar, as the self-sacrificing - and a bit manipulative - Logan, takes the lead in this newest entry to Butcher's Sentinel Wars.

Despite the fact - please don't shoot me for this - that I've had a hard time keeping the Sanguinar straight as individuals, I was really looking forward to this story shedding some light shed on the blood drinking Sanguinar Race and their secret project. I've always wondered why the Theroni warriors were so distrustf

Ms. Butcher once again delivers a dark, gritty, action packed story that held me spellbound. A smooth storyline and continuously evolving arc engages the reader and sets a fast pace. The premise revolves around Logan and Hope; two fantastic characters whose innate loyalties often overrides their wants and needs. This bo

Suffering from amnesia, Hope Serrien is searching for her true identity and uses her ability to see auras to help homeless people on the street. Her charges have recently begun disappearing and while searching, Hope encounters Logan, an enigmatic stranger who promises to aid Hope in her quest. The two soon discover that the other is hiding secrets and that a terrifying foe is determined to use them for his own nefarious ends.

Fifth in the Sentinel Wars paranormal romance series revolving around several groups of sentinels charged with preventing demons from breaking through. The couple focus is on Logan and Hope.

My Take
This story is more of a bridge in that Butcher introduces a new species and new problems in this story, opening the possibilities even wider. With all the fallout from earlier stories, there are a number of problems which need resolution and Blood Hunt furthers the potentials---both good and bad.

Basic Plot: Hope has a relatively normal life until she runs into a monster attacking some people in an alley and she gets swept into a world of demons and monsters.

I think I have decided to like these books despite themselves. The romance tropes irritate me (this one again had the "undiscovered only female of the species" thing happening again, this time with amnesia!), but the stories are appealing despite that. The writing is fast-paced, but not obnoxiously so, and I find myself liking the ch

I wasn't too impressed with the last few books in this series, so I made a promise to myself that if I didn't like this book I would quit reading the series altogether. Luckily, I did like it. Really liked it.

It focuses on the Sanguiner, a vampiric race, that are presented up to now as cold, untrustworthy and always with their own agenda. The hero, Logan, has more of an agenda than most which is probably why I like him so much. Noble characters are just so boring.

This is really disappointing for me, especially since the last book in the series was a 4 star read. I think it's just the writing style I don't like. For me a book is all about the characters and I just couldn't get drawn into the characters in this one. To be fair I only made it about half way through so maybe it gets better by the end. What bugged me though is how many point of views we see. I was only 30% into the book and the story was already told from 7 different POV's. I have a really ha

I really enjoyed reading about Logan and his kind. The always seemed so mysterious to me and this book really shed some light on them and their struggle with a dwindling food source. I thought Hope was a perfect match for him and I am so glad she did not five up trying to be with him. The other side stories were also interesting, the slayer truce and the side story with Ian were highlights of the book and I can't wait to see what happens. overall, it was very enjoyable if not a bit angst ridden ...more

Up until now, I have to admit. I have been pretty ambivalent about the Sanguinar and their role in the Sentinel War series. I let the opinions of the Theronai warriors color my own and when I realized that the hero of this book would be one of them, I thought this was another "get through it" book for this series. I am very happy that I was wrong!

Logan is the mysterious Sanguinar healer who from the first has been a little shady. What are his true motives? What is the mystery project he is worki

I am getting a little tired of this series..
It takes a situation and has the worst, most dramatic response to it.
I have to do my duty and sacrifice my happiness for the good of my people!
Really! You cant help you people and find a mate?
It just got tired, really fast.

Hope repeatedly went out at night time by herself when she knew demons existed was very stupid.
Also, she was a "good Samaritan" and a mother Teresa, helping the homeless and looking for missing people,

Nothing in all the world will make me finish this book. Not even three chapters in and the writing is so atrocious that I'm ready to send my copy to the nearest goodwill (or trash can.) While I can't speak to the depth of the worldbuilding, (I haven't read the previous books - I picked this one up at a local used booksale sans books one through four) the quality of dialogue, characterization and overall description is very, very poor. It features: repetitive phrasing and word usage; stilted conv ...more

I love this series, really love it. I couldn't wait for Logan's book, the first starring a Sanguinar. I was so incredibly disappointed on reading it. This book could have been so good, and it just wasn't. It wasn't even the couple that ruined it or their story. It was more the fact that the author and hence the reader was prevented from giving my attention to their story. The main couple got less than half of the pages devoted to their story. I loved this book. The only thing that could have made it better would have been more pages! Lets face it we all know these go "boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl, somehow boy gets girl back". I felt like this one spent a lot of time on boy getting girl. This usually drives me insane when that part takes a long time but in this case it worked and it worked really well. The boy loses girl part was so close to the end that the I really thought there would be no HEA and I really wanted a ...more

Finally we get a point of view from one of the parasites of society, the looked down upon Sanguiner Logan.

In all the other Sentinel Wars books you see Logan and how he and his brothers struggle to survive. He is a devastatingly handsome honorable man with the weight of his race on his shoulders, though the Theroni have a difficult time seeing him that way.

Hope is well named for she brings that and more to Logan. Secrets are revealed that bring us closer to seeing the full picture. You c

As much as I like this series, I'm always slow moving from one book to the other, but once I start reading I'm quickly invested in the world and this installment is no exception. Project Lullaby is growing and has become the primary goal for the Sanguinars. The outcome of unfinished events from Living Nightmare get the royal treatment as Logan struggles between duty and desire when he meets good Samaritan Hope Serrien; Sentinels and Slayers cover new ground; Jackie ponders her
The fifth installment of the Sentinel Wars series shifts focus from the Theronai to Sanguinar when we follow Logan's story.

The Theronai are the warriors who work in woman and man pairs while the Sanguinar are healers and need blood to survive. The kicker is that every race of the Sentinels is dying and they are each here on Earth to protect humans from the Synestryn.

The Sanguinar have been pretty mysterious up until now. We don't know whether to like them or be weary of them. On one hand you ha

Recommends it for: paranormal romance
In the world Shannon Butcher has created there are three kinds of supernaturals that form the pro-human “Sentinels”: The sword-wielding Theronai, the vampire-like healers known as the Sanguinar, and the lycanthropes called Slayers. Although all three of these groups originated from the alternate world Athanasia and are tasked with protecting humanity from the evil Synestryn, their interactions with each other are anything but friendly. In the first four books of the series the Sanguinar have fea ...more

Another BRILLIANT installment from Shannon K Butcher.

I find most people dont seem to like the snippets of differnt characters stories though out her novels but I find it utterly refreshing you feel as if you are in a TV series where you have the main plot and get little sub plots on the side.

I love that we get to read more from past characters and from future characters and their stories so enjoyable.

For 3/4s of the book, it didn't feel like a romance to me. Felt like straight urban fantasy. The last 1/2 of the book made up for it somewhat. Now having said that I liked the book, especially the worldbuilding. SB is setting the stage for a bunch of more players in the next coming books...just wish I had a hint about who it was. I am hoping that it will be Andreas's turn, the head of the Slayers. Now we have alot of players on the field with the Theroni, the Sanguinar and the Slayers all fighti ...more

5 stars, most definitely!

For all we know, POV from the Sentinels that the Sanguinar are not to be trusted, depended on and believed in. Whatever they do, it's always an exchange for blood. How unfair was that? This book exposed the Sanguinar way of life, honor, loyal and duty toward the survival of their race...thus the survival of the Sentinels and Slayers...who all vowed to protect humans from demons and their monsters. We weren't exposed to the fact that this race have been starved for centur

I really love this series, it spins a whole new version of vampires and demons. So far we have learned alot about the Theronai and their destined mates, with new additions to the series with each new book. The Sanguinar's have been mostly in the background up until now, coming in to aide the Warriors when injured. They have secretly been working on "Project Lullaby", which will increase the population of "blooded" people, who will eventually feed the starving Sanguinar. Sounds wrong when you say

This books seemed to be very busy and not in a good way. So far in the series there have been lots of story lines, some have come to an end, like the couples that have come together, others have been left open. With this book the author opened a whole new set of story lines, I wish that she would have cleaned up some of the old ones. I did like getting to see the story for a different point of view than we have seen so far with the Sanguinar.

At the heart of this whole book was the idea of "I wan
I gave up. I cannot read anymore. This is truly not a judgment of the quality of Butcher's writing because I do actually love this series. I just haven't reached a point yet where I am ready to embrace the Sanguinar perspective. The Sentinels are awesome. I understand their motivation and I connected to their distrust and fear of the Sanguinars. And while I didn't feel that the Sanguinars were evil, I didn't think they were trustworthy because their goal is survival of their race. What I don't k ...more
