WARNING: This is not a review of the books. I plan to write those separately someday. This is, rather, a review of the original Star Wars Trilogy catalyzed by the final episode of Lost. Please don't bother reading this if you're looking for a book review. Thanks.

The movies of the original Star Wars trilogy (Episodes 4-6) are some of my favorite movies, so I decided to try the novelization. These books are very close to the movies, but some of the dialogue is different, and there are a few additional scenes in the book.

It was really interesting to read this after the prequels came out. The first thing I noticed - the prequels don't match up to the back story in this book. In fact, the prequel story from the novel was much more interesting than the movies.
Let's start with Episode IV and it's more awesome back story.
Obi-wan says,"Vader used the training I gave him and the force for evil, to help the later corrupt Emperors. With the Jedi Knights disbanded, disorganized, or dead, there were few t...more

I remember exactly when I watched Star Wars for the first time. It was in California, when I went to highschool there as part of an exchange program. Until then I was one of the "cool kids", convinced that anything that had to do with science fiction was for nerds and those guys in science class whose sweater sleeves were always too short and who were proud that they knew clingon (or whatever).

I'm a big fan of the Star Wars films but these novelisations of the classic trilogy did nothing for me I'm afraid. I hadn't really expected to be bowled over by the quality of the writing but I had hoped for a reasonably enjoyable read and some additional insight into the Star Wars canon. I got neither.
George Lucas's Star Wars was the best of the bunch (which surprised me, given the brain-dead and cheesy dialogue he gave his characters to spout in the prequel trilogy). Donald F. Glut...more

As a longtime fan of Star Wars, it was a pleasure to read the novelizations of this beloved trilogy. One could almost hear the Millenium Falcon's engines as they soared into space, or that unique sound of the jedi lightsabers, or even recall various scenes from the movies as we read them in the books, the familiar lines coming to our lips. It gives an interesting sense of nostalgia.

When I was a kid, I read this so many times that the binding cracked and now half of "The Empire Strikes Back" is missing. But that's okay, because as much as I loved Star Wars, "Empire" was my least favourite of the trilogy.
Ein muss in jedem Buchregal. Hier finden sich die Romane zu den drei Filmen der Original-Trilogie. Egal ob man nur Fan der Filme ist, oder des gesamten EU, dieses Buch ist Pflichtlektüre.
The writing style gets progressively worse as you move through these books. Eventually, I swore that Yoda was narrating. Just clumsy and weirdly worded.

Adapted novels of the movies. Pretty straightforward. They do have some additional details here and there that didn't make it into the films.
this book is read like reading a screenplay. i was hoping for a bit more emotion or back story. my suggestion watch the movies, they are better than the books.
Not something I,would normaly read (my fiance had a copy) a great adventure classic, a good book to read to learn the structure that science fiction can take successfully. likeable characters. I.m on page 52.
I don't want to feel like a nerd but I really liked the Star Wars trilogy. Can't wait till it comes out in 3d.
Only so-so, when you a fan you can read it, but there's nothing new or breath taking there
I learned that Darth Vader, at the end of Episode VI, was an older version of Anakin Skywalker.
I liked it, but all it made me do was want to watch the movies. Something like this, where there is so much action and was a movie first, I prefer as a movie. It's still a great story, though!
I read this a long time ago, but I remember that ROTJ was the best one.

You can't call yourself a fan without having read these. Period.
I loved the movies and i loved the book too! Nice book.
Very Good written, I can see the history!
Listened to this on audio and it was the radio show version. It was not bad but the episode credits were annoying. The story is good though but basically just like movies.

Another case of rating for comfort value, rather than actual literary merit. I was 10 when Star Wars came out, and this book was probably one of the first ones I bought for myself (a couple of years later, once I started babysitting). I read "Star Wars" and "Empire" many times while I waited for "Jedi" to come out. I can remember buying "Jedi" just before I went to see the movie and refusing to look inside and see if Vader really was Luke's father.
I liked these novelizations of the movies. One writer for each, so some quirks may be noticeable, but an enjoyable read. There's a little more information (like background info of the characters) than it was possible in the movies, so that's a plus.
I expected a bit more of bonus content, but I guess I can't complain about a $8 book! Despite that, if you are a Star Wars fan, I guess you can't go wrong with this one.

Pretty good collection of books. It wasn't as great as the prequel trilogy. I love being able to see the actual perspectives of the individual thoughts. They were able to portray Luke's perspective a little bit, particularly in Return of the Jedi. The fight within of the light side vs. the dark side is so intriguing. Moving on to the Thrawn Trilogy next. I hope it is as good as I've heard...
bought for nantou, hualien, and kenting, taiwan.
I love reading my husband's Star Wars books, and had always wondered if there were books written for the original trilogy, and so when I found this at the library, I had to check it out. I found that the first book was rather dry - it was evident that it wasn't meant to be a book, but a screen play. The other two were much more fleshed out and developed. Over all I enjoyed reading them.
Totally Awesome!!!! This is the trilogy of stories from the original Star Wars movies (you know, from the '70s). It is really cool - the backstory that George Lucas provides on the characters is amazing. It is hard to believe that he was able to carry this amazing story around in his head for so long before finally being able to bring it to life.
Okay, I'll admit I mostly skimmed through this after receiving it as a present just to say I did... It was fine and had a few extra somewhat interesting tidbits in a few places, but I'll stick with the movies on this one, thanks.
