HE WAS THE ONLY MacKADE WHO MOVED SLOW

Sheriff Devin MacKade had always had his eye on Cassie Connor Dolin. Twelve years of trying to watch over her and her children. Twelve years of being the dependable friend, of seeing his beauty married to a beast. Twelve years of hell.

Now he was going to change, although he knew he'd have to be careful, move slow. But if Cassie came an...more

It was good, but not great. My biggest issue with the book was (view spoiler)[the bits of paranormal sprinkled in. This bugs me in books. (hide spoiler)] I am not inspired to try another Nora Roberts, unfortunately. The hero and heroine (and kiddos) were all a bit too perfect.

Lovely Cassie Connor married the man she thought was the image of her dreams, but Joe was quick to anger and abusive. Cassie endured years of brutal beatings, hiding the truth and the bruises from her friend, Sheriff Devin MacKade and from all of the townspeople, too. However, when Joe took his anger out on their two kids, it was over. Joe was locked away in prison and Cassie mercifully granted a divorce.

So, Cassie and her kids started over, but their emotional scars took a long time to heal. No...more

I picked up The Heart of Devin MacKade because I was interested to see his heroine, Cassie Dolin, who is introduced in the first book as a victim of domestic violence, get her HEA. Cassie married Joe Dolin young and stupidly. Joe is pretty much a good for nothing, who drinks too much, gets fired from even the most menial of jobs, and knocks his wife around for anything and everything. In the first MacKade book, The Return of Rafe MacKade, Cassie finally presses charges against Joe for battery an...more

Sigh *** What will I do once I finish this series? Only one more book, *sniff. I just don't want it to end, I'm having such a great time with it.

Again I wasn't disappointed by this series. This book was everything I wanted it to be. I had been wanting to read about Devin and Cassie since I started this series, so you guys can imagine I was exhilarated once I got my hands on this book.
Devin MacKade is the town's Sheriff, former bad boy who nobody ever thought would make something important of...more

The Heart of Devin MacKade, OR, Romantic Protagonist and Domestic Abuse & Rape Survivor Cassie Dolan Goes From One Frying Pan to Another, Sexier Frying Pan.

I can't even call her a romantic heroine because I did not give two shits about her, she just happened to be one of the lead characters. It's great that you and Devin can finally bone after like 15 years of him creepily pining for you, but maybe you should spend some time examining what you want, what you really really want, and not just...more

This is the third book in the series and I loved it! The story of Devin MacKade, town sheriff, and Cassie Dolin, an abused mother of two starts in book one so they had time to develop as characters through two books before it was time for their story.

Devin has loved Cassie since for ever. He wasn´t fast enough to ask her out and when he got round to it she was already engaged to a creep. Joe Dolin abused both her and her kids physically and emotionally. As the sheriff Devin did know about it but...more

Book 3 in the "MacKade Brothers" series has the best ending! Going at this backwards couldn't be helped. I loved how Nora ended Cassie and Devin's story. Devin's love and devotion for 12 years to Cassie, although married and a mother to two, was heartwrenching. Not only because Devin had loved her even before she married right out of high school but now he was the sheriff and had been called to Cassie's house on numerous spousal abuse complaints. The tenderness Devin shows both Cassie and her tw...more

The sweetest of the McKade books. Devin has loved Cassie since high school, but when she marries another man he has to stand by and watch while she is abused. He is the sheriff, but can only do so much until she asks for help.

She's been divorced now for a year, and is managing the Barlow Inn. Devin, who is the soul of patience, begins to make his moves. It is Cassie who kisses him first, and it was meant only to be friendly, but passion flares and stuns them both...Devin, because he didn't contr...more

I'll admit I started looking forward to this pairing from the first book in the series. I somehow knew that Cassie would end up being a heroine later in the series, and I suspected that Devin would be her hero. Again, though, I really felt all of the paranormal elements were unnecessary to the story. These two could have fared well on their own with their complementing personalities and their existing relationship with each other. Seriously, do they really need the blessing of ghosts? Everything...more

I loved this story of Devin MacKade, town sheriff, and Cassie Dolin, a woman he's loved for twelve years and who was married to a man that physically and emotionally abused her. Devin is a patient and thoughtful man who fell in love with Cassie's children and helped them heal from their experience living in an abusive environment. Cassie's transformation was realistic and Devin's limitations on his patience was understandable but long overdue. His sensitivity endeared him to me and has him be a...more

I really enjoyed this, the hero Devin who is also the Sheriff has been in love with the heroine for years, he had to see her marry a bad guy who beat her and couldn't do anything because she never complained but now Cassie is finally free, re-constructing her life for herself and her children.
She never had any support and went from a terrible home to a bad marriage and had no support to get out of it, but she is trying to change.

Devin finally makes his move but Cassie is shy, it is good to see h...more

This was a great story!

I liked Cassie and I loved Devin. The man had the patience of a saint. Cassie was a wounded soul and he'd always loved her even when she was with her husband who was brutalizing her. After he went to jail and she got the divorce, it seemed to be quite awhile before Devin actually moved in on her and it surprised both of them in a good way.

I thought the ending rocked. It was so well put together that it almost made me cry. I love it when a book does that. :)

The story was f...more

AWWWW this book touch my heart. Let me tell you people RUN and READ the Mackade brother books there so cute...... I'm in love with every single one of them and this third book of Devin Mac Kade was just as great here we continue the story of Cassandra and Devin which we got to learn about some of her history in the first two books so this just completed the story. I really love these brothers and there ALPHA MALE selves. If your looking for a fast paced, love story that will make you melt these...more

I'm especially excited to read this one. And it's the only one I haven't read. I think it might be partially because of the name. Devin MacKale struck me as a constant calm force through out the first two books. In the second book, I observed him carefully earning the affections of Emma and Connor. He's a good man.

But after reading it, I loved it all the same. Devin is definitely awesome. There was a nice bit of action in the book too!

Sweet, dumb, predictable, and silly. Oh, and fun. Good enough for mind candy plus a quick read. Waste your time with this eries for what it is: a Nora Roberts romp, 3rd in the series with the contrived haunted Civil War plantation - now B&B - used as the maguffin to surround four hunky bad boy brothers finding true love, each with the strong yet vulnerable woman tailored just for him. Oh bother. If you're a NR fan these are light weight even for her but still enjoyable enough for a snowed in...more

This book was part of the Quartet, The MacKade Brothers. The books are short and I read them one right after the other--like one big novel. Several themes run through this series, four devastatingly handsome brothers, rough trouble makers when growing up now productive members of small community, connection to the land and the ghosts that remain from the civil war. Thoroughly satisfying Nora Roberts Romance series.

Really loved this book, i could read it over and over! Love how every detail keeps you wanting more from the details of the inn and the history of the town and all the Mackade brothers, from what poor cassie goes through! Its a real tear jerk-er too! Love it would recommend to anyone who loves a good romance story with a bit of raunchiness to it!

THis is a good book. It follows all the McKades and it really works for me. Devin is my least favourite brother but i still really like him, i think his patience is so cute. I love how he is with the kids.

He is a hero who is happy being a small time cop, he knows what he wants and wont settle for less. I love the love scene in the bunk house at the cop station!!

A great read

Enjoyable story that deals with a serious issue found all to often. Plot, action, pace all good and I particularly like when the male pursues the female. Sheriff Devin has been attracted to Cassie for years and finally follows his heart after her divorce.

when i get the time to read i let myself be lost to what im reading. this one really got to me, i sooooooooooo loved the story and the characters in it, i almost cried. Hahaha! :) i get emotional once im soo into the book im reading. Lol.

It was fine for what it was, and some of the best parts were just the look at small town life. I didn't find any of the characters super compelling although I did like the scenes with Conner bringing home what it was like for the child of an abused woman
Mareli
Another good one. True to be told I was expecting something more, something more dramatic to close the horrible marriage the heroine felt conpelled to have vey young.

But the story is sweet and you'll have to love another Mackade brother getting a family. On with the last one!
Janet
More like a 2 1/2 stars but still, it showed the limitations of the Silhouette formula. Sweet steady hero, abused woman who he has loved forever ... predictable but still a good read. I think I liked Shane's book the best. Still felt a tad formulaic.
Maria
The third in the MacKade brothers series, this is my favorite, possibly because the introduction to Cassie and Devin occurs in the first book and their story develops through the preceding books, so it has a bit more depth to it.

As expected Nora Roberts again delivers with the third brother. You feel for him and all the years he suffered watching his true love abused at the hands of another. So good to see love win.
Ilka
Okay, so Nora Roberts totally redeemed herself in this book. The characters were great and really well developed. I loved the plot and can I say again I love the characters. I highly recommend this book.

I want to like these books, and they are good, but just not great. Not quite a four star, but maybe more than three. I can't get into the fourth book, but I'm still trying.
