"It is coming"
These are the words left near murder victims and a message for the main protagonist a
"I can see dead people!" kind of teenager.
Callum has the gift to see the dead, he can't communicate with them but see them, he discovers new abilities and treads new territory with fears, his whole supernatural world is about to get ever so more sinister. There is talk of the Netherworld another domain where creatures live, monster-like, demons who should not be allowed to enter your threshold ex

Predictable can be good too, it just needs strong imaginative writing to support it. A good plot can only save so much.

And such is the case of Callum Scott in Hunted. The premise is familiar in itself, a boy born with special abilities tries to ignore them and pretend he's normal. Then something happens that makes him face the extraordinary side of himself and he embarks on a journey to the unknown - unknown called Netherworld in this case. He gains friends and allies and finds out about his mis...more

The Shadowing Haunted by adam Slater

1.What is the author's purpose in writing the book?

Adam Slater presented an interesting idea involving mythology as well as the supernatural with “The Shadowing." He wanted to attract the younger population with this book. The author does something that has been lacking in Young Adult fiction lately – he brings in supernatural creatures that aren’t “mainstream”. You won’t find vampires or werewolves here! Instead we’re talking Grims, Chime Children, and the Bo...more

Hunted, the first in The Shadowing series, is one book I wasn’t too sure about reading. I’m not the biggest fan of the cover, and the premise didn’t really sound like something I would personally enjoy. However, Hunted ended up surprising me in some big ways, because not only was I fully enchanted by the world presented, but I also adored nearly every scary yet delicious second of it.

Hunted starts just about how every other scary movie does: with the POV of the “bad guy”. However, it was the per...more

Fourteen-year-old Callum sees ghosts everywhere. He also experiences premonitions and has a strange sixth sense, which he calls his “Luck”, that alerts him to danger. These abilities, along with the fact that he lives in a tiny cottage with his grandmother, are the kind of thing that makes a teenager a prime target for bullies, so Callum does his best to pretend that he’s just like everyone else. Soon, though, things start happening that are out of the ordinary even for Callum, and he finds hims...more

Callum Scott is a teenage boy with some extraordinary abilities. Not only can he see ghosts, everywhere, but he also has some precognitive talents. When Callum starts to realize even the ghosts are frightened, he knows something strange is happening. Something dark and perilous is hunting him, and even more danger lies just arou...more

I decided to start reading this book the night before school started. That, dear readers, was a big mistake! Not only could I not put the book down because it was so fascinating, but I was also scared out of my mind! I have not been this creeped out in a long time, and while I absolutely LOVE this novel, I do not recommend reading it right before bed. I ended up “sleeping” with the lights on, but didn’t find much sleep at all, which, of course, made for an interesting school day the next morning...more

The Plot - Callum is a teenager with some freaky gift. He can see ghosts. So far so cliché, right? Ok, but this is the least of his problems cose there’s a monster that is after him and all of those who are just like him. It’s called The Hunter and it kills it’s victims in a bloody way ripping their eyes off their sockets. Why? Well, that’s something to discover by reading the book. *evil laugh*

'The Shadowing' is chock-full of thrills and packed with enough creepy supernatural goings-on to keep you up all night. You'll most definitely have to read this book with the lights on!

I must admit that I was a bit apprehensive about reading this to begin with, as I'm not usually a fan of the horror genre. It's certainly not something that I would normally have picked for myself. It has the scariest cover ever! However, I'm so glad that I was sent a copy of this and gave it a go because it's a s...more

I'm so happy this book has been published! We need more YA horror (yes, yes, I know I say this all the time but it's true) so I'm really excited about The Shadowing series. This one will definitely appeal to boys (and girls) and it has a lot to offer - from great writing, a terrifying storyline and an awesome cover so I'm sure it's going to do very well.

Let me start by talking about the cover, which I love. Yes, I'm sure it's going to get a strong reaction from people who think it's too gory for...more

“The girl lies by the canal, her face turned upwards like a stargazer. But she will never see the stars again. Her eyes have been torn out. The rain fills the empty sockets until they brim over, spilling bloody tears down her cold, white cheeks..”

Hunted is a YA paranormal horror novel. This tale is told from the point of view of fourteen year old protagonist Scott Callum. Callum has always known he was different; he lives with his Gram in a small crammed cottage, sees ghosts and has amazing luck...more

I received this book as a galley from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Callum Scott has always been able to see ghosts, but when the veil between the human and demon world lifts, he discovers that his destiny is to fight and protect those that are hunted.

In my opinion, if you are going to write a book about demons and paranormal warfare, it has to be done in a way that avoids some of the most obvious cliches. Unfortunately, this book did not accomplish that. I found the characters...more

Loved this story and I loved the fact that the main character, Callum, and his female friend, Melissa, don't have a romance ...... and I'm going to say yet, as it still may happen. It seems that every YA I read has to have some romance blooming or already happening between the main character and a best friend or possible enemy or complete opposite schoolmate etc, so it was nice to read a story that had two friends of opposite sex and not have an under running love story happening at the same tim...more

In his grandmother's tidy cottage, Callum Scott is safe from the ghosts that he sees everyday on the paths of his small town. However, the ghosts have been disappearing as a new creature comes to town, a creature that eats the eyes of it's victims. Exploring his grandmother's books with the help of a friend, Callum begins to learn that his powers may be able to help him defeat the monster and prevent an even larger conflict from happening. Alternating between horror and the gruesome, Slater intr...more

When I saw the publisher’s brief synopsis of Adam Slater’s new novel, The Shadowing: Hunted, I was intrigued by the use of myth and legend in a YA paranormal horror story. In fact, I think it’s the use of myth that tips this over into horror. This is one scary book – intriguing concept and definitely scary. It’s the start of a great new series that teens and adults alike are going to enjoy while they shiver! Read the rest of my review at http://popcornreads.com/?p=1696

I was looking for something for my 12 year old son, and I think this fits the bill.
Pretty bland as far as character development, but there's plenty of spooky action to make up for it. There's also a bit of gore thrown in for good measure.
Oh, and it's relatively short.

This is a middle-grade reader, so I wouldn't recommend it for adults.

The audience is for young adult. The categories are young adult, mystery and fantasy. This book is about a teenage boy named Callum that can see ghost around his town. He lives with his grandma in Marlock Wood. He goes to school like everybody does and gets picked on by these mean bullies. Callum has a gift that he can see a vision right before something bad happen. One day he came across this dark ghosts that tries to warn him about something. It said “Beware The Dark Reflection” right on his d...more

So I have started this thing on Twitter called #10pagetrials. Where on books I am if-y on (ie. I have qualifiable reason to think I won’t like it), get a 10 page trial. Hunted by Adam Slater was one. Why was I if-y on it? Back cover synopsis key words: demon realm. *que the Mario Kart audio clip for when you fall of the track*

However, I picked it up and never put it down. It immediately intrigued me and I have to say that the phrase “demon realm” is not entirely accurate. Yes, it more-or-less ha...more

There are creepy stories that make your skin crawl and then there are some that give lots of hype and promise but somehow manage to fall short. I can promise you “The Shadowing: Hunted” by Adam Slater will not disappoint.

The story is set in a very rural area of the London countryside and follows a young gentleman by the name of Callum. Callum is your average kid; he plays rugby for his school, gets good grades, and plays a fairly low profile in school and in life. He’s a loner. Callum has a dep...more

A decent, though rather pedestrian read in the popular YA supernatural genre.

Cal is the quiet type who lives with his grandmother in a tiny house in a poor village in Britain. He can also see ghosts although apparently can't interact with them and has kept this ability to himself. Now the time of The shadowing is upon them and soon the walls between our world and that of the demons will start to thin. Cal is clearly going to be on the front lines in the upcoming war.

It's a nice set-up with plot....more

Read this review at Nose in a Book!

I’ve been reading more and more books written from a male POV, which I like. It seems like books written in a male POV have less emphasis on the romance (minus the Caster Chronicles, of course), which appeals to me a good majority of the time. Unwind is another from a male POV (also written by a man) that’s pretty awesome. In fact, Callum reminds me of Connor in more ways than one. They’re both headstrong and impulsive, mostly invisible to their peers, and both...more

Adam Slater's The Shadowing: Hunted blends modern day with ancient legends for a horrifying tale.

The Hunter is coming, and it hungers for children's eyes. Callum Scott has always been able to see ghosts, but when visions of murdered children enter his nightmares, he realizes it is just the beginning. He's being hunted too. With a school friend, a ghost with a grim, and his Gran, he must face the dark and what is out there, or it might be too late for them all.

The Shadowing: Hunted narrows the f...more

If you like short scary stories, then this book is for you. I have to be honest I had to read it only during the day because it scared me a little. The story was pretty fast paced and held my interest the whole time.

The story is set in an English country side, where Callum, the main character lives with his grandmother. Callum has been seeing ghosts ever since he could remember. He sees them everywhere, especially at the old churchyard. Then one night he has a horrible dream about a boy being mu...more

This book was quite good - I enjoyed the supernatural aspect of it. The Hunter was also well portrayed and gave the story that creepy feeling that works its way up your spine. I was disappointed the book wasn't longer and would have liked a bit more explanation of the "netherworld" but maybe that will come in the sequel "Skinning: Reckoning #2".

The story is about a young man, Cullum, who has special powers to see ghosts and other supernatural beings. He is a "chime" child which means he was born...more

Callum Scott has been able to see ghosts his whole life. When he was younger, he would often embarrass himself by trying to talk to people no one else could see. One evening, however, Callum suddenly discov...more

I began reading this with a bit of fear and trepidation. It has "horror" in its labelling, so I was a little afraid it would be too graphic. While there is a graphic murder, it isn't gratuitously violent. Slater wrote a book that I couldn't wait to get home from work to read, staying up into the wee hours to read.

This story, written in third person, is almost exclusively from the point of view of Callum Scott - a teenager who has had the ability to see ghosts all his life. However, there is a d...more

I have had this book for a while from netgalley. My first thought was if I saw the above book cover in the shop I would not buy it, however if I saw the following cover I would pick it up straight away and not even see what it was about.

The Shadowing:Hunted is the ideal book for me. It has ghosts, grim, fetch's, witches and chime children along with details of how people have died in gruesome ways. Although The Shadowing:Hunted is a horror book I didn't find it scary at all.

The Shadowing (Hunted) is the first installment of a series that explores the idea of chime children: those children born during the hour of the chime that have a close tie the Netherworld. Callum, a very powerful chime child, has gone his whole life thinking that he was crazy for being able to see ghosts all around town. He never thought anything of this power until the day he was faced with the Hunter, a supernatural creature out to hunt down the chime children and keep them from thwarting the...more

THE SHADOWING: HUNTED, by Adam Slater is a fast pace story about one boy's journey to fight an incredible evil and protect himself and the ones he loves.

I was incredibly impressed by this novel. I liked the synopsis but was still a little hesitant. I read it and loved it! The plot was different and the characters had personality. I started the book and the next thing I knew I was done! It was definitely a fast read and it kept my interest the entire time.

I chose to read this book on impulse, because I liked the blurb but one of the two available covers scared the lights out of me (the gory, not-portrayed-on-this-blog one, if you’re terribly curious).

I can’t stress it enough, how glad I am that I were so visceral... because this is one great visceral book.

Nowadays I find that many authors seeking to thrill, to scare their readers, will resort to gore as a means to shock, as if that was supposed to be the terrifying thing. Mr Slater does not do su...more

Adam Slater doesn't scare easily, which is lucky because his study overlooks a graveyard. He has a degree in Folklore and an unhealthy love of horror films, both of which helped to inspire The Shadowing books. If he wasn't a writer - and if his girlfriend would let him - he'd be a stunt driver.
