Although Kate Bonner's plans to own a bed-and-breakfast were dashed when her now deceased husband invested all their money in Artisans Alley, she still has the faint hope that someday she will own the place. When another couple buys the mansion she is understandably upset -although not as upset as the new owners who find a skeleton buried in a wall. Soon Kate is caught up in a murder investigation as the bones belong to the long missing niece of a close friend of hers. As Kate begins investigati...more

What a stressful life our Katie Bonner is living these days! Aside from her daily routines at the Artisans Alley, which are about to be interrupted in a less than happy way, she is rushing around to find a place to live and down to a very short deadline since her apartment has been rented out already. I was Blessed this week by a surprise gift in my post office box. What was it? An ARC of "The Walled Flower" by Lorraine Bartlett. Ms. Bartlett gave me this splendid gift and was I happy! Not only was I at the ending of my current read, I know that Lorraine Bartlett is one of those Authors unable to disappoint me.

For Katie being stuck with the craft fair Artisans Alley is a bitter pill to swallow as her late husband invested in it with the money intended for the purchase of her dream house, the Webster mansion. Now another couple is living her dream by renovating the old mansion on Victoria Square. When a walled up skeleton is found the couple's dream quickly turns into a nightmare. The victim turns out to be a local girl, Heather Winston, and is the niece of one of Katie's jewelry vendors. It does not t...more
In the second book in the Victoria Square Mysteries, Katie Bonner is keeping herself more than busy between trying to keep Artisan's Alley from running her into more debt and stepping in as Glinda's Maid of Honor at the last minute. She's also forlornly keeping an eye on the Webster Mansion, which she had hoped would've been hers one day. That was before her husband had sunk all their money in Artisan's Alley. When Katie visits the new owners at Webster's Mansion, she inadvertently discovers the...more
This second in a series is even better than the first. Katie is sole owner of Artisan's Alley a bit of a dump of a place that her deceased husband purchased without telling her. It is run down but in the six months that Katie has been running it things are starting to turn around.
Her dream property is an old Victorian house that is just across Victoria Square from her building. It has been for sale for months and now someone has purchased it. When Katie goes to welcome the new owners to the neig...more

This fantastic story that has Katie running in circles and eating way too much pizza but by the time I finished reading the book I was craving cinnamon rolls.
The characters in this series are so much fun, even if one or two of them may be murderers. Katie has faced so much already losing her husband, then her business partner is murdered and she finds herself the sole owner of Artisans Alley putting here dreams of owning a B&B firmly out of reach. She has grown into the job wonderfully, han...more

Second in a series, but the only book I've read by this author. It reads well as a stand-alone, and I liked the Artisan's Alley craft fair setting as well as the variety of characters - other than the protagonist. I really wanted to like Katie Bonner, but she already felt so sorry for herself that she didn't need any sympathy from me. It didn't help that some of her troubles could have been easily solved by not allowing herself to be a doormat. So she couldn't afford the time or money to be matr...more
In Bartlett’s mystery novel, Katie Bonner had spent years dreaming of opening her own Bed & Breakfast in the Webster mansion. Unfortunately, her late husband blew their savings on the craft fair Artisans Alley and now she was stuck with a business she never wanted while another couple stepped up to renovate the old mansion of her dreams.
But when a skeleton is found sealed in a wall of their mansion, their dream becomes a nightmare of police investigations. The bones are identified as belongi...more

Katie Bonner puts her envy behind her and welcomes Janice and Toby Ryan to the group of merchants in Victoria Square. The Ryans are renovating an old mansion into a Bed and Breakfast, which was Katie had longed to do before her late husband used the money they had saved for the purchase of the home to invest in Artisan’s Alley, a craft marketplace.
However, the new owners of the mansion are in for a shock when the renovation process uncovers a skeleton hidden in one of the walls. When the skeleto...more

The murder mystery in THE WALLED FLOWER is the most intriguing I’ve read in a long time. Katie Bonner is a young widow, cheated out of owning the property of her dreams, the Webster mansion, because her late husband invested all of their money into the struggling Artisans Alley just before he died. Katie pays a visit to the new owners of the mansion to see their renovations and also to pine away for what she lost. Poor, Katie! While she’s there, a skeleton is found sealed behind...more

This was a great book and story. I had sort of figured out who did it, but it didn't make the story line any less enjoyable. The last couple of chapters really held my attention and were some of the author's best stuff. I was getting annoyed with the fact there were a lot of disagreeable characters in the book, but the way it all played out in the end took care of that! I am not sure how I feel about Katie and her boyfriend, Andy, though. Andy doesn't seem to care that much about her and seems t...more
A slog. For a book that should have taken a couple of hours to read, it has dragged on for days now. I kept getting so annoyed at Katie for allowing herself to be so stressed by her "friends" and even more annoyed at her boyfriend's attitude. And I didn't care about the mystery at all; it seemed contrived. I'm always amazed at business owners who have time to run all over town all the time and just chuck the business into someone else's hands; most of the owners I know work 50+ hours a week. Any...more
Katie has long dreamed of buying and renovating Webster House, but it seems that it will never happen. Someone else has purchased the place, but when Katie goes to welcome the new people, in her capacity as president of the merchants' association, she's right on the spot when a skeleton is found in the walls. A locket identifies the skeleton as Heather, the long-missing niece of Katie's friend, elderly Rose. Heather's long-ago death has repercussions to the present, as the very busy Katie adds i...more
Great story and great characters............quite a sense of humor in Katie Booner, the protagonist. Once the story got going it was hard to put down so I read it in almost one sitting. As so often happens Katie, the center of the story stumbles onto a body............seventh sense or what?

I am giving this four stars because it was well written, kept my attention and I didn't guess the killer at all. But I want to point out a few annoying details..first, the main character Katie is described as being age 30..however, nothing about the way she thinks, speaks, or acts makes her appear this age...she is way more like a woman in her 50's. Secondly, some of her comments were just annoying..like when she assumes someone could be a murderer just because they have an NRA belt buckle. Real...more
First Line: Steam seeped through the airholes in the Angelo's pizza box, along with the aroma of melted mozzarella, pepperoni, sauce, and spices.
Having a boyfriend who owns a pizza place has its perks, although Katie Bonner is secretly getting rather tired of pepperoni. And whenever she walks into Artisans Alley and looks across the square to the old Webster mansion, she feels a twinge. If her late husband hadn't invested all their savings in the craft mall, the Webster mansion would have been h...more

It will take years for Katie to get out of debt now, and in the meantime someone else has purchased the aging home and begun renovations. I liked it, but the plot was a little too busy for me - too many threads and people to keep track of. There were the deaths, past and present; Katie looking for a new home; serving as matron of honor; having boyfriend issues; dealing with crafter conflicts; etc. I know it was a lot for Katie to juggle, too, but for me as a reader, I found myself wondering "Now, what auction are they going to?" "Who's this guy again?" and other clueless thoughts. It was a lot to pack into a cozy.
This is the second book in this new series. I read the first book and had to patiently wait for The Walled Flower to be released. Patience is not easy for me, especially when I am waiting for a new release. I was not disappointed. Thank goodness I received this on a Saturday! I could not put it down and was glad that my waiting was over. I am so glad that Ms. Bonner decided to stay in "Victoria Square". I love each and every character. It is a lot to keep up with since there is a lot on Ms. Bonn...more
Katie wanted to renovate the Webster mansion and open a bed and breakfast. Her late husband invested in the Artisan Alley and crushed her dream. The new owners offer her the chance to knock out a wall and she discovers the bones of a long missing person. Dueling vendors, a Victoria Square wedding, an old Betamax and cinnamon rolls! A fun fast read. 3.5 stars
Outrageously good story.. slam bang, bodies piling up... anger and frustration are the words of the day. Super surprise ending that will literally blow you out of your seat.
Read the story, love the story, let the author know how much you loved the story.
Thank you Brooklyn Public Library for actually stocking this great book.

Katie Bonner continues to work at making the Artisian Alley a viable business. Rose Nash, a woman who works at Artisians Alley finally receives word that her niece Heather has been found....dead behind a wall at the Webster Mansion. Who killed Heather and why? The plot thickens and there are a variety of people who turn up as possible suspects...some even wind up dead. It's a good read
I just can not like Katie at all. She is manipulative, self-centered and not very nice to Andy the person she supposedly loves. I'm sure in the next book she will expect Andy to buy her the B&B prospect, simply because she wants it. With "eyes blazing" (<-direct quote from book) Katie was infuriated because Andy was using his property to further his business instead of giving her the apartment she WANTED. But never fear, Katie is already scheming about moving in furniture and redecorating...more
