Did I just marked this book as-read because the boy in the cover is kinda hot?! o_O

THE FAERIES VIEW

Damned is a captivating sequel to Crusade, I’ve waited for this novel to come out and I was not disappointed! It’s Thrilling, Chilling and Bad to the Bone all while carrying romance and heart break making for a most fascinating read. The series continues to get better, which I thought impossible!

Nancy Holder and Debbie Vigue do a wonderous thing with building a dystopian like world that is ruled by vampires and humans are their sheep. It’s incredibly believable which is what make...more

After reading Crusade, I was curious if we were going to get to know Skye better. She’s the witch who fights alongside the hunters — the only witch willing to step across that line and officially align herself with the team who seeks out to destroy the Cursed Ones. She still keeps to the rule of doing no harm, as best she can. If humans are involved, then Skye is out. But we got a hint to a dark past for her in the first novel, and Damned...more

Damned & Crusade: An Epic Urban Fantasy Series in the Making

It felt wrong to write a review of Damned since I know both authors so well and I am closely connected to the series. So, instead I decided to write a rumination on the Crusade series since there are a few things about the series that have always struck me as significant within the fantasy genre, but haven’t really generated much discussion. Therefore, since the Damned Book Tour is stopping at Underwords today, I’m going to talk abo...more

I read about 3/4 of the book from Simon & Schuster's Galley Grab, but then it expired on me before I finished the book. I then purchased the book (in the middle of the night) from an eBook store. One of the things that I love about eReaders. You can have instant access to books right when you need it.

The word that comes to mind when I think about this story is strife. This book is full of strife. It's set during a war. The vampires are taking over the world. Most humans hide their head and p...more

Now, if you would read my review of the first book, this might make a bit more sense. Now, here's the thing, I said I would never, NEVER read this book. I hated the first one, and now I hate this one two. But a friend of mine started to tell me the plot, and it sounded so bazarre that I had to at least see what it was about. So I downloaded it off audible, and I gave it a listen.

And OMG, was it odd. I don't even understand half of it, and whatI understand just confuses me more.

Let us talk about...more

I received this book as part of a blog tour. This did not change my review in any way.

Damned, the second book in the Crusade trilogy written by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie, finds our hunters continuing their battle against the Cursed Ones. Unfortunately for them, they learn hard lessons along the way that force them to either grow up or give up. Jenn Leitner is now the leader of this band of fighters, and winning the war seems hopeless. Her team not only fights the Cursed Ones, they fight eac...more

First, I'd like to talk about the cover. Is that a hunkadunk or WHAT? I am officially in love with Antonio (no matter what he did this book, his looks make it forgivable :P). The book is filled with action, and heartbreaking sighs. I felt really bad for Jenn in this book. EXTREMELY bad. She has to go through so much emotional baggage, that's weighing her down, and the team is trying to do everything they can to help her, but personally, I thin...more

{May contain some spoilers}

Jenn is the second most character I love reading about. She's isn't some Mary Sue or like how I like to call whiny characters "Bella Swan'. I'll admit, in the first one, she kind of is since she's feels like she's 'just Jenn' since she was the only one in her group that was normal. But in this one, she's has grown into such a strong character.

And just like how it says in the back, this book does have a 'fine line between love and sacrifice. . . ' cause in this book, J...more

First of all, Damned was very good. Team Salamanca face fights on all sides: Keeping Jenn’s sister Heather together since she is a Cursed One (vampire), Antonio, ah, Antonio continues to fight with Team Salamanca and is devout to God but his bloodlust is no longer quieted; then Solomon, another vampire has new tricks up his sleeves all while Team Salamnca try to dodge new supersoldiers that are a mix of human, vampire, and werewolf. Geesh, there is so much going on and of course, just like in bo...more

Review will be posted on my blog, Mindful Musings, on 9/7/11.

In a Sentence: Damned was an extremely fast-paced, suspenseful sequel, and I ended up enjoying it more than its predecessor, Crusade.

My Thoughts

As I mentioned in my review of Crusade last year, I felt that Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie did a wonderful job of building the world they created for the Crusade books. After finishing Damned, I stand by that statement. Crusade and Damned take place in a dystopian-esque world in which vampir...more

Jenn is a surprising character.

She's definitely evolved and grown into herself as the book progressed, just not entirely of her own will. Her world took a hard hit in book one, leaving a large crack but the farther into Damned you read, the farther the crack spreads until finally it completely shatters and Jenn isn't the same Twilight-esque character she appeared to be in Crusade.

The entire Salamanca team also juggles the destruction of the world, both as a whole as well as on a personal level;...more

Loved this book! There is such conflict and overwhelming odds against them. Yet they struggle on regardless. It is such a great view into the strength within each of us. The ending is really tragic. Holding with the trend of the book things are dire and show no real possibility of change. Still, I loved every page.

I wasn't super happy with what happened to Antonio. I just don't like seeing anyone in a position where their free will is taken away. Without that who are you really. At first when it...more

With an action-packed storyline and a few heartbreaking twists, Damned is simply thrilling.

Jenn is officially the leader of the Salamanca team of hunters, but everyone in the resistance may be in over their heads as the risks grow higher. Vampiric control over the world is strengthening, the resistance is growing difficult to continue, allies are running low, and one of vampires has even begun manufacturing a surprise that could bring the downfall to humans everywhere. But even as Jenn and her t...more

How to summarize book 2...there's a lot going on! Let's see...Eriko, the Hunter and former leader of the Salamancan group, is dealing with the changes....though not in her position but rather physically and mentally due to the changes granted her by her role. Holgar, our resident good guy werewolf, is dealing with echoes of his past as he struggles to maintain the life and health of his fighting partner Skye. Speaking of Skye, this time around she's not simply the White Witch they defer to for p...more

The story focuses on Team Salamanca and the fight against the Cursed Ones (vampires). The Cursed Ones appear to be taking over the world with very few humans putting up a fight. Team Salamanca is making journeys all over the world attempting to aid other resistance cells. During their joining with two remaining members of the team in Russia, the group takes on one of the lead Cursed Ones – Dontanio. Dontanio is the Dr. Frankenstein of the Cursed Ones, creating hybrids that are made up of vampire...more

Second book in a series where the vampires are "Cursed Ones" and are slowly taking over the world. A new people stand in the path of the takeover, including specially trained hunters and Hunters (the later which recieves an elixer that helps them heal faster, be stronger, and move faster like their prey, etc.). In "Damned" we get to see the global effects and see the other covert teams.

There's also a lot of insight into how Cursed Ones can regain control of themselves as seen by Antonio and Fath...more

Jenn's got a lot on her mind - she's just been made the Hunter, and her sister's been turned by the vamps. Then there's Antonio, who'd do anything for her, even if it means suppressing his vampire nature. Together with their team, they continue the fight against the Cursed Ones, but it seems the enemy is always one step ahead. Is there a traitor in their midst?

This is the second book in the Crusade series, and as such, it has a lot more action than the first book. This time it's all about int...more

I can't lie, i liked this book quite a lot, it took me only a day to finish. I liked the poetic twist to the writing. Plus no sparkly vamps were mentioned.

In the first book the only thing that bothered me was that Jenn had no confidence but i think, finally, in this book Jenn comes into her own as the new leader and also she finally dished out a good ass-kicking to someone on the team who i think thoroughly deserved it at that point.

I once again got swept into the plot and the world that the uni...more

This book was fantastic! Much better than the first. So much action! A lot of pain. I think this is the best devastating vampire story I've read for YA. Probably not fit for young teens though. I like that nothing is overly sugar coated. Because really, a lot of what happens in this book is really how things would go. (Well maybe not entirely...but if it were this exact scenario--with no one standing up for themselves...) I am happy to know why the excerpts of Jenn's diary were found in the ashe...more

Truthfully, I didn't finish this book. I didn't read book one, so maybe that was the problem. But, after the first 125 pages, I just didn't care to try to figure out the complicated plot about a group of teen vampire hunters, and vampires out to take over the world. There were too many characters, and the point of view (and time periods) switched far too often. I just couldn't get into it.

Admitedly, with most trilogies, the first book is the best and sets the stage, including establishing the ch...more

4.5*s

A really good sequel to The Cursed Ones (Crusade, #1), just as with the first book it is non stop action revolving around a group of teenage vampire killers led by a mysterious all knowing priest. Things havent gotten any better for Jenn, Antonio and the gang infact you could say they are 10 times worse as the world succumbs to the vampires and their allies become less and less. Those who they thought could be trusted turn out to be something else, old enemies resurface and their faith and trust in each other is pushe...more

I am currently mad at Nancy Holder. This book was maddeningly awesome, just like the beginning but that one certain part (You guys who've read the book know EXACTLY what I mean) (view spoiler)[ Of course when Eriko died, WAHHHHH!!!! (hide spoiler)] that has made me really upset at it all. Honestly, sad ending are necessary because if there was no chance of it being nothing but a happy outcome, there's no risk so what's the point in reading, right? But there's also a line between a fair sad and a...more

Damned is the 2nd book in the Crusade Series, and I definitely would not recommend reading it first, as it picks up where Crusade leaves off. (On the same note, if it’s been a while since you’ve read Crusade, the authors do a good job of filling you in throughout the book so that you won’t feel lost- which can also be a bit daunting at times). After a somewhat failed mission in New Orleans, Team Salamanca has retreated to their university in Spai...more

Well Jenn finally steps up putting her big girl panties on and getting on with it. I will not tell you when, that is half the fun. A cliffhanger of course the team is taken from Madrid, Russia, Las Vegas, Montana then back to Salamanca. There are losses new interest and reunions.

There is two individuals after Antonio with similar purpose but different intentions those come out in Damned.

We also get to see what lead up to each individual on the team being there. We know Jenn's story of course bu...more

don’t always get to finish series. There are so many books coming out that sequels and series aren’t usually a priority for me. But there are some authors whose work I’ll always read, and some series that I absolutely must finish. Even when they are giant, 500-page tomes.

DAMNED is one of these books — the second book in Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguié‘s CRUSADE trilogy. The series incorporates world religions, often Catholic mythology and Wicca, in building its post-apocalyptic world. A world in...more

This review contains spoilers for Crusade.

Okay, so you may or may not remember that, at the end of the last book, everything went all to hell. Jenn's dad betrayed her to the vampires in order to save her sister, Heather (and the rest of the family). Unfortunately for him, the plan totally backfired (duh) and Heather was, instead, captured and, ultimately, "converted." Whoops.
Heather's "conversion" is a complicated issue on so very many...more

First Impression:
After being so impressed by Crusade, the first book in this series, I have been (im)patiently awaiting the release of Damned. In the first novel, Holder and Viguié blew me away in their presentation of a vampire war. I adored and applauded Crusade for its originality and gusts. And was super excited to get transported into this world again.

While Reading:
Where do I start with this? Ever since I have finished the last page, so many different thoughts are going through my brain. A...more

First, I have to say that this is one of the best series of books about vampires I've ever read, not only by the manner in which the series is written, but also by the author chose that approach, showing the face of cruel and inhuman vampires in most books on this genre is covered by the glamor and erotism that are assigned to these beings. Damend is no different with much struggle, blood, tears and losses, Nancy does not change the focus Crusade started in what is good, because most authors ten...more
