Roane's series revolves around vampires who start out as psychicly talented humans but then ascend from Mortal Earth to another dimension, Second Earth, and gain fangs and wings. There are two warring factions among the ascended and the 'pretty boy' bad vamps drink humans to death and also kill candidate ascenders who will not join their cause.

Brink of Eternity falls after Roane's first book Ascension, but works pretty well as a standalone short and as an introduction to Roane's world. I actual...more

In the world of vampires and paranormal romance finding a world that is unique is hard to do, Caris Roane has managed to do that with Brink of Eternity and the The World of Ascension series. This is an in between novella #2.5 in this series.

Gideon is a warrior first and foremost, he plans to devoting his life (eternal as it may be) to helping win the war within the vampire world. He has recently ended a two year affair he had been carrying on with a human, Elise.

Elise had always had to hide her...more

As with all novellas this story was too short but Caris Roane managed to keep it believable, well as believable as a book about humans who ascend to Second Earth and become Vampires with additional powers can be. But it flows well if not into the direct storyline than at least as an interesting vignette of the earth and what is going on around the war.

Gideon is a Militia Warrior, close to becoming a Warrior of the Blood he has the strength and the power but not the desire. He wants to serve alon...more

Brink of Eternity is a novella in Caris Roane’s Guardian’s of Ascension series. This was my first introduction into this series and now I am going to have to put Caris Roane’s books on my TBR list. I absolutely loved the idea of a mix of vampire and angel like characters. In this novella you get a peek into the world of the Guardian’s and those that have paranormal powers who may ascend. I loved the levels of Earth and the different Warriors. The story itself really pulled you in and you wanted...more

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. I for one was happy to read this. It pulled me in and wouldn’t let me go till I finished reading it in one night. If you love vampires, clairvoyants, different world dimensions, aren’t afraid to read what people really want to say and say it, this is the book for you. Between vampires with wings and death vampires, you are in for the ride of your life. Ms. Roane not only entertained us with her writing, but left us with a need...more

With my resolution to read more paranormal romance this year, I chose to read this book for this tour. I am very glad I did. It is very steamy with it’s sex scenes, so if you don’t like that, you may want to steer clear. Very well done, however.

I loved the balance of the war, ascension, and romance, as well as the delivery of information pertinent to the world. I’m not a fan of too much world building, and this was definitely just right. Enough to se...more

While I'm not fans of Novella, because sometimes I feel the story too short, not with this one. Sure, Brink of Eternity just have 10 chapters, but it's like Caris Roane can wrap up Gideon and Elise story and left reader satisfied and beg for...more

Gideon has promised to uphold his decree to defend Second Earth from the vicious death vampires intent on claiming it. He's a Militia Warrior, and needs to remain focused on the task at hand. Unfortunately, his mind keeps traveling to his ex-girlfriend, Elise. Their breaking up is still quite recent, and he's nursing the hurt in more ways than one. If he's to succeed in fighting the war against the other faction, he'll need to set aside his pain, and the incessant yearning roiling within him.

I've never read Caris Roane's books before but I must say the idea of winged vampire warriors was intriguing. Brink of Eternity is a Guardians of Eternity novella, however it isn't like any novella I've ever read. While most seem to speed through details and tend to leave this particular reader unsatisfied, this was completely different.

Though it does fall into the novella category, Brink of Eternity has enough details to give readers a taste of...more

It's an additionnal story to the series, it's not part of the main series, it's one of those goodies thrown at the reader who can't get enough... Unfortunately it shows, it's more of a romance novel although set in a fantasy world. I will happily read number three when it comes out, I find Endelle's character fascinating and the series has enough good points to keep me reading. This one is just a little something she added, it is not necessary to the series and could easily be skipped. It is an...more

Okay, it turns out that this series is A LOT easier to take in small novella doses. The plot wasn't nearly as much of a train wreck, and I didn't have to hear about how good lavender or honeysuckle smelled for five hundred pages.

Also, the numbering on this series is wonky. This book happens after Kerrick's story but before Marcus', making it 1.5, not 2.5.

I really am done with these for a little while though, even though I'm leaving Parisa and Medichi in a lurch. I need to scrub my brain with s...more

As far as vampire romances go, this is a new favorite series for me! I've just recently started reading these books but I've become addicted in no time. Once I started that first book I just could not stop reading them! There's just something about a hunky vampire warrior with wings that captures my attention!!!

Caris' World of Ascension is a fascinating new take on vampires for me! It's hard these days to find something new and fresh and this series is both of those for me. This being a novella...more

I loved this novella that featured a Militia Warrior instead of a Guardian Of Ascension which is what this series is pretty much based on.
Although this book is numbered #2.5 I think it should be numbered #1.5, Warrior Marcus and Havily are not even together in this novella yet.

But no matter I still enjoyed this and it makes me wonder if eventually Gideon will one day join the Warrior's although he doesn't seem to want to anytime soon.

I loved the appearance of Endelle, I think she's a hoot, with...more

I love this series. This is an amazing world of winged "kick-ass" vampires who are the guardians of humans and the second earth. So far," the ascenders" are the the mates to the guardians. They have special talents and powers that allow them to help in the war of good against evil. I am not a good writer, so I cannot write a review worth a hoot. I just know that this is a series you will love if you like vampires and other paranormals.

I am not a romance reader but I gave this book a try. I really was surprised how easy it was to get into this book. I liked reading about these two great characters,Elsie and Gideon, passion grows for each other. There was plenty of romance and passion and the story flowed smoothly. The book moves at a good pace and you do not want to put it down. I am a convert to romance, It just took the right book and this is it. A must read.

It was a nice and useful way to remember things about the series while waiting for the next book. Nothing too interesting or exceptional on this book, I could have go on just fine without having read it.

In this novella we get to read about one of the Militia Warriors and how he got his mate. What I liked the most was to finally read a book from a guy's POV who isn't a Warrior of the Blood. It was great to see what the rest of the people on 2nd Earth think about the Warriors of the Blood and Ende...more

This story takes place from a Militia Warriors POV, instead of a Warrior of The Blood. As long as you read this after the first book in the series you can read it anytime. I wouldn't recommend reading it prior to the first book in the series though because you will be lost, and let's face it the first book Ascension blows doors on this novella. Overall a nice short story to peak your interest in anticipation of the late August book release. You can purchase it for Nook or Kindle for $.99 or re...more

I was given this book in exchange for a honest review! I absolutely loved this book! I have to read the rest of the series now! Gideon and Elise....Wow, not only did they have a steamy romance but all kinds of trials to stay together! If you love Vampires plus Warriors this book is for you! Gideon was most definitely an Alpha male! This book was well written and I didn't want to put it down! I highly recommend!

Caris pens "Brink of Eternity " a novella in a plot that is well written and filled with passion, romance and vampires. Her characters are well developed, sensual and steamy. A fast read that was really hard to put down. Highly recommended to all vampire, sensual readers.

This review is based on a complimentary copy from the author which was provided for an honest review.

Ok, besides being a bit physical (is it??? hmmm...) I love the fact that this story has a very sweet twist in the end..and i love how much this book made me wanna read more and more....Caris is a genius. I am sure gonna read the whole series of this very sexy vampires warriors' stories in the future!

This is kinda not a romance and definitely full of naughty bits.

For a change it was different to have Militia Warrior Gideon and his lady love (and future seer) Elise. The former lovers decide to not renew their relationship as Elise has a vision she can't ignore and realizes that she has to tell Gideon as it will have a huge impact on his life.

This wasn't a bad book but I was hugely disappointed - it felt like a lost opportunity. There was too much sex for such a short story -- more than 2ent...more

Caris Roanne's series is exceptional.

I read this as an ebook, like all the other of Caris' book this was well written and gave you an insight into the world of militia.

Another great story, hot loving and a story that had you from start to finish, only one complaint - it finished too soon.

This was my first time reading Caris Roane but it won't be my last.I love the world of Ascension with its warrior vampires with wings. And who wouldn't love Gideon? Can't wait to read more.

I did like Elise and Gideon, and their story. But the book was just too short to really get into it. Well, it isn’t exactly short, 168 pages is enough to build a decent story. But Caris Roane has a way of slowly building a great story and this book just wasn’t big enough for it. I do think it’s positive that there wasn’t a lot of repetition, which is the case in her other books. It’s a decent in-between book.

Loved this!!!!!!!! Roane has moved waaaayy up on my list of favorite authors! Looking forward to the next book in August!

Two strong lead characters with good interaction! Gotta love Endelle, too!

I liekd this one better because it was less about the politics and more about the people.

I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire....more
