Maybe it's because I love sea kayaking on the west coast and wonder if I'd be physically and mentally fit enough for the 30 day voyage with the long canoes that Ursula Vaira writes about so movingly in this book. Maybe it's because I was one of two lightkeepers on duty for three weeks at Cape Scott Lightstation this past December when the rugged outpost's weather truly lived up to its fearsome reputation and in another journey, Vaira and friends kayak around the northernmost tip of Vancouver ...more

In this collection, Ursula Vaira shares 3 journeys into the wilderness, in poems that draw an inner map of the outer passage. Sparse and at the same time vast, powerful + still lingering in my thoughts: "...And See What Happens".
