Even though the character development was uneven (the heroine has a unique personality and clear motivations while the hero could probably be switched out with any other generic hero), I found the overall book enjoyable.

One of the things I like about continuity series is getting some follow-up about the characters in the past book, so I wish this book had a little more follow-up on the couple from Just Surrender... (the heroes in the books are brothers), especially since the hero from this book

So I think I may have to take Kathleen O'Reilly off the auto-buy list. The last few of her books for me have been disappointing.

I this book I didn't understand the hero. Most of the time I was left with a big WTF? in relation to his thought processes and motivations. I respect an author who doesn't treat her readers like idiots but this was just a bit too vague and abstract for me. Maybe I am just stupid. This was a fast and fun read. I really liked the character of Gilly (she's self-confident to the point of being annoying, but is so self-aware about it that it's endearing instead) and the insight into the underbelly of state politics (at least in Texas). Why do I keep doing this to myself? If I need a light fluffy read after finishing a soul-sucking, tear inducing, makes-me-look-at-life-differently book, I should know by now not to depend on Mills and Boon for that fix!

Our protagonists are just everywhere. Tempted to DNF but since it was literally a 210 page book I thought "what the hell".

I finished this book this morning. I had to call out sick so I finished it. It was okay. I needed something light and this did the trick for me. I wasn't happy with the romance scenes but the rest of the story was okay.

In the first half the book, Austen is a major prick, and no amount of redeeming behavior on his part or good writing on the author's part could make me change my mind. Damn.
