Dance With Me
by
Heidi Cullinan (Goodreads Author)
Ed Maurer’s life would be fine if he could just get Laurie Parker off his back. He’s bounced back, more or less, from the neck injury that permanently benched his semi-pro football career, and he volunteers now at a local community center. It’s just that every time he turns around, that damn professional dancer is in his way, hating Ed right back. But when a bargain Ed str...more

"You don't just feel the rhythm," he'd told him. "You must feel the soul, both of the dance and of your partner. The tango isn't something you dance. It's a story you create with another."

5+++ dancing stars!
Wow. Simply brilliant!
Ms. Cullinan has created a soul-deep moment of pure magic. Dance With Me is beauty in every sense of the word. There's beauty in a dance and body; you find beauty in inspiration and love; there's beauty in making love; and there's so muc...more

This story made my heart melt, hurt & beat very fast. It also made me tear up and get the sniffles!
It was such an emotional and beautiful story. All of me was so invested in the journey of Ed and Laurie, I felt it; every step of the way. At times so melancholy I wanted to pick both boys out the story and put them in my pocket to keep them safe. Other times it was simply sweet or umm… the sexual tension jumped off the...more

This is one of those books in which the power of the story itself truly outweighed the shit I like to nitpick about; hence the rating.
I really liked it... and I'm kind of shocked about that.
I had some issues with the characterizations, especially of Ed. Every time I thought I had him pinned, he would do something to puzzle me again - I had a hard time piecing together a whole picture of him. Or maybe I had a whole picture, and I was looking for more. But, I did really like how sincer...more

What a nice change of pace for me, the perfect book at the perfect time. After reading so many books that left me emotionally drained it was a pleasure to read such a beautifully written story.
I loved the slow progression of Ed and Laurie’s relationship. It was so sweet and I did find myself tearing up a bit more than once, not because they made me sad but the opposite, they gave me that warm fuzzy feeling that had me wanting to give both of them a huge hug, the kind that mom’s love to give!

I Cant not find the right words, this was an amazing story.
I fell in love with it from the 1st chapter and couldnt put it down, till the end! The Way every thing is told and put together is just AMAZING.
I laughed and Cried Ed and Laurie were Beautiful!!
If you havent read it yet, give it a go it might surprise you :)

5+ stars from me :)
Ed and Laurie are complete opposites. Ed is a former football player, all butch and manly, while Laurie is a former ballet dancer, a bit feminine and totally stylish. They can't stand each other, and whenever their paths cross, they end up fighting XD Now I won't go explaining all the plot, but basically Ed asks Laurie for a favour, and in return he has to assist him with his dancing classes. Very soon, Ed finds he really likes dancing, and m...more

3.5 Stars! Not a 4! (I need a half star Goodreads!)
I enjoyed this book, the characterisation and the style. Unfortunately I was not able to connect with all the dancing. Ramba, waltzing, cocha something or the other? I really am quite clueless when it comes to dance steps and what they look like so I failed in a lot of the visualisation required to thoroughly enjoy this, I kind of skimmed those parts.

I have read a few books by this author and I can say with certainty that every one of them had something special, something that made it stand out among the others. She knows how to make an ordinary topic great and how to make difficult characters loveable. So you would expect that she would at least fail when it comes to sex, but once again she surpasses the ordinary and common with little...more

When I started reading this book I thought that maybe it wasn't for me as there seemed to be a lot about dancing.
How wrong I was. This book was divine and definitely to my taste. Laurie and Ed are such a wonderful couple; the relationship was nice and smooth; very relaxed.
When Laurie said that maybe they were going too fast I thought, are you joking !! I'm 48% through the book and I've waited long enough for the two of you to get together!!!

I really enjoyed this, it was a great weekend reading-wise.
Great MCs. Well developed characters. The dancer was completely believable! The tortured artist fits him well. I know a few tortured artists, the author did this dead on.
The drama.
The ex-football player, self described corporate drone, learning to live a new life without football, while managing chronic pain. Very believable.

This book was FABULOUS! I loved it so much! I have to admit that I am a sucker for stories with starting over themes, second chances, main characters reinventing themselves...I love all of that in a book. And Ed's and Laurie's story was all about that.
Ed and Laurie don't like each other...Ed had begun to teach a weight lifting class at the local community center in St. Paul...It makes him happy to do it, he hates his drony job and he can't play semipro football (his re...more

This story was emotional and wonderful, with some of the most beautiful characters you could meet.
I just loved it and yes, there were definitely sniffles.
The book did have a slow build up but I think you needed it. You needed to learn about the characters and their insecurities. They were both so insecure although Ed’s were deeply hidden, he was just as broken and insecure as Laurie was. The author really made us know the...more

What happens when two of my favorite things, m-m books and dancing come together? Awesomeness! What happens when an author like Heidi Cullinan is in the driver's seat? Pure Magic!!
What a treat Dance With Me was to read! I can't seem to wipe the cheesy smile off of my face much to my husband's curiosity but darn it, it just made me feel good.

Heidi Cullinan, Presented an OUTSTANDING story of Self Awareness and Acceptance with ones self. The book is full of Love and personality, and attitude and Laurie's Mom was a HOOT! Ed the Hot football player, defines having a clear perception of what he wants and what he needs while Laurie shows him the difference as well as the way. I really love the way Laurie demonstrates cosmic strengths, weaknesses all in a dance. Through out the book Ed and Laurie provide each other true motivation for life...more
Really enjoyed this book. Professional dancer Lawrence (Laurie) and ex semi pro football player Ed seem initially to antagonise one another at the centre where they both teach. As the novel progresses so does their relationship and love for one another until finally both characters realise their life's goals have changed and together they are able to commit to their changed circumstances and to each other.

Ed Maurer and Laurie drive each other crazy. Both men help out at a Rec center where Laurie gives free aerobics classes and Ed helps kids learn how to exercise. They are constantly butting heads as they try to share a PA system. Finally frustrated and worried that he'll have to cancel his classes, Ed asks Laurie what he can do to get him to turn his music off for one night until the PA system is fixed. Laurie asks him to help him with a dancing class as his partner. Surprising Laurie, Ed agrees....more

This was an amazingly beautiful book. It's angsty but it's not too angsty. It has descriptions that make you feel like you are actually experiencing each incident, each dance. It has so much sexual tension, you can feel it coming off the pages. And it's such a heartwarmingly sweet story, I just couldn't put it down.
I loved how this story progressed. It's a slow development in not just the emotional aspect of things but also the physical and mental aspects as well. It's different from Cullinan's...more

I thought the novel was about dancing, instead is about two depressed guys. It isn't bad, on the contrary, it's very good as long as the plot remains focused on Ed and Laurie's relationship (read sex). But maybe in my romance I prefer one messed up character while the others fuss over him/her or kick his/her ass better, because in this way I went into oh, poor me overdose and, rather than sympathizing with the guys, I could not help but get into grandma mode: "Boys, there are babies who die o...more

I honestly couldn't tell you why, but this book made me really emotional. Which is a super rare occurrence for me. Though it's a fairly typical MM romance with lots of tropes and familiar story arcs, it was stunning. Ms Cullinan writes her characters with great compassion and understanding. I can't even be pithy about this book, I liked it so much I might just start gushing like a silly fangirl.

3.5 stars, but I rounded up, partially because I suspect if I'd read this before Sinners & Saints, it would have gotten a higher score.
The author was obviously extremely knowledgable about chronic pain and dancing (or at least she really did her research). But I felt, at times, like not enough was explained to the reader. I am not familiar with dance at all, and often couldn't picture the dancing because I was swamped with terms I didn't know. However, this is a minor complaint.

A book about dancing! Oh, yay.. Suuuper exciting, right? Yawn..
Sure, it's nice to dance. In clubs, after a few beers. Which is not really dancing, is it? It's just a pathetic struggle to stay on your feet and keep your nose off the floor. And sure, I like to watch people dancing. Unless they're sober. And film them and embarrass their lame dancing ass afterwards and make danceophobics out of them.
Naw, I kid. I wouldn't do that. Again.
Anyway...

Cullinan delves into professional disappointment from two totally divergent viewpoints, one from a semi-professional football player and the other an internationally acclaimed ballet dancer. Given how little I know about dance, I was impressed with the ability to understand the difficult maneuvers described. What captured my attention most was the passion Cullinan infused in the characters for their respective... sport, for lack of a better word. I've been in a position where an injury forced me to quit a sport I loved (though I was nowhere near even semi-pro talent, as Ed Maurer was) and the ache she portrayed as well as the chin-up attitude Ed displayed to get himself through the...more
This was one of those books that's been on my to-read since last year and I have danced around it for months thinking the reviews were intriguing but those who know my taste know that I'm a big fan of angsty, rip my heart out and throw it against a wall while digging a knife in my gut books. This certainly was not hence the pussy-footing that lead to me being separated from this book for so long.

This is a bit of a difficult review to write because while the book is decent, I didn’t particularly enjoy reading it. I’m not entirely sure why except I couldn’t connect to either character and thus never really cared about them together. Due to this the story somewhat bored me and I found myself sometimes skimming just to finish. There are a lot of great elements in the story that should work together to form a moving, memorable story. I like the individual characters but together I never real...more

Heidi Cullinan has always loved a good love story, provided it has a happy ending. She enjoys writing across many genres but loves above all to write happy, romantic endings for LGBT characters because there just aren't enough of those stories out there. When Heidi isn't writing, she enjoys cooking, reading, knitting, listening to music, and watching television with her family. Heidi also voluntee...more
