Immoveable object... Meets Unstoppable Force.
Travis Morgan is a drifter. Being thrown out from his own home when he is 15 years old because he is gay, he becomes a well-known horse trainer, since he thinks horses give love unconditionally. He is not one who lay down roots. Until he meets Raymond "Ray" Ford. The owner of Ford Creek Ranch, the ranch where Travis heads for a new job. Ray makes him think of home. Really enjoyed this book. A ranch owner who wants to remain far in the closet versus a horse trainer that is continuously running from ranch to ranch. He's never been loved because he's gay and yet he can't resist the ranch owner. The book had its moments where it was hard to read how much Ray was fighting his attraction. I enjoyed what they went through to get together. I wish the story had gone on a little longer it ended a little quickly. While I'm not adverse to reading very erotic m/m books...more
This would have been a three star review except for the massive STUPIDITY ON HORSES that takes place in the final ten pages of the book. Yesh.
Ray Ford is the owner of a ranch. Travis Morgan is a famous horse trainer who never stays anywhere long. They meet, fall in love, and go galloping on their horses in the back 40. Unsurprisingly there is a horrible accident. But fear not, they survive. No, I'm not spoilering that because massive, terrible stupidity on horses pisses me off. Travis is a horse...more

A classical western romance starting in a most classical way: a wealthy rancher welcomes in his household a drifter in need of a place to stay. Only that this time the drifter is not a damsel in distress, but another handsome cowboy, and he is also an expert horse trainer and by chance he was right heading to Ray’s ranch. And Ray would prefer that was not the case, since he has heard the rumor around Travis, he prefers “the company of men”, and for someone so deep in the closet like Ray that is...more
Not a badly written book, with nice enough characters, but what started out with promise just got cold after a while. Ray wanted Travis, Travis wanted Ray, but Ray couldn't come out for fear of losing his ranch due to intolerance in a small town. Travis kept wandering as he was constantly hounded as the gay horse trainer. All understandable but, nonetheless, tiresome when pretty much the whole book went that way.

This book reminded me of why I fell in love with reading to begin with. With so much emphasis these days put on reviews and how this cowboy story stacks against that cowboy story, I hadn't realized I'd begun to take mental notes while reading. That stopped by chapter three of Long Tall Drink, and I lost myself in a great love story, well told. I personally love to see protagonists work for their HEA, and Ray and Travis logged a lot of overtime on that score. Their every encounter sizzled, be it...more
OK, really liked this one! I love cowboys, and I love slightly older protagonists (Ray is 40, Travis 33).
Ray was (understandably) traumatized by the way a local gay rancher and his partner were terrorized when he (Ray) was 17, and finding out that his dad was one of the responsible parties. He buried his personal feelings, but, thankfully, at least never sank to the depths of marrying some poor woman under false pretences. One of his hired hands, Sam Davis, is the son of the man who was Ray's f...more

Rancher Ray Ford is living a lie because he’s afraid coming out will ruin the reputation of the ranch his family has owned for generations. However, when he hires renowned horse trainer, Travis Morgan, he knows he’s in trouble. Ray is attracted to Travis from the moment he picks him up at the side of the road and his attempts to keep their relationship strictly professional are becoming more difficult.

This was a 3+ read for me. I liked the story, the cowboys, the portrayal of ranch life, and the secondary characters, but there wasn't that extra je ne sais quois that would make it stand out and push it into 4 star territory.
Ray Ford is the (deeply) closeted owner of the Ford Creek Ranch. He picks up a "long tall drink of sexy" drifter who is hitchhiking his way to...(you guessed it!) Ford Creek Ranch. Turns out this mystery passenger is none other than Travis Morgan, legendary horse trainer......more

I am a little disappointed. It started real nice, brokeback mountainish, but a bit more lighthearted, with sexy cowboys and a lot of sexual tension.
But what ruined it a little for me: "the sexy cowbay did this", "the sexy ranger did that" - eh, no. And the black, wild stallion named Diablo, who the sexy cowboy understood like no other...the life-threatenning accident which brought their love to the surface and alot of other cliches...the bronce glow in the sexy cowboy's green eyes...

Long Tall Drink is a M/M cowboy romance that reaches you deep down to your soul. It is an amazing, compelling story about love, but most of all hope. Travis and Roy’s interactions are dynamic, powerful and sparks fly between them, but before they could work it out together, both have to overcome fear and obstacles. Simply stated, I loved this book. And this is a talented author indeed. L.C. Chase writes from the heart and it amazes me how in tune she seems to be with the characters development,...more
I give it 3 1/2 stars. It was really well done cliche, hate crime, fire in the middle of the night, horses. Travis nearly lost his life twice. I liked the box Ray had put himself in, can't be gay and out, too dangerous, BUT he has this irresistable pull towards Travis. The prose was quite florid! I had to chuckle at times. So the sex scenes sometimes were not pornographic, which I thought was sweet. And our heroes spend most of the book resisting each other, so they are not in bed together all t...more
Long tall drink of sexy indeed! There was so much sexual tension and sizzling chemistry between Ray and Travis that I felt the need to fan myself. I loved the slow build and understood the reason for it since they both had a lot to lose if word got out about them. But then I started to get impatient for the good stuff to happen. After all the teasing and cold shoulder routines (where I was like are you kidding me?!?) I wanted to give them both a kick in the pants and tell them to get on with it...more

Oh the angst. This was a slow burn between a very closeted ranch owner, Ray Ford, and a world-renowned horse trainer, Travis Morgan. It wasn't a friends to lovers story per se because when I think back, the MCs really knew little about each other. Rather, most of the story is dedicated to them fighting off their mutual attraction and hiding from violent homophobes! Both Ray and Travis were likeable, although Ray's closeted-ness (he was so deep in the closet, he'd need a search and rescu...more

If a slow burn and/or sexual tension are your thing, this book has both in spades. It truly felt like there were palpable vibes coming off my ereader during this one *shivers* from the moment Ray and Travis set eyes on one another until the end!!

Overall
A smoking cowboy story that was a little heavy on the sex and sexual tension for my tastes, but I imagine would be perfect for most readers. Overall, fairly standard, but enjoyable.
Review
The two points that made this story slightly less enjoyable for me, but may make it perfectly enjoyable for other readers, are its high sexual content and it's somewhat standard cowboy themes. I don't judge either poorly (the story makes no bones about what it is), but it did make it more humd...more

This was a really great read. I have a thing for hot cowboys and this was such a great read. I loved Ray and Travis, both of them struggled in different ways but in the end they got their HEA. My favorite character though would have to be Dot. She was such a funny character and I loved the old woman, she added a lot of fun to this book.

I give this one a 4.5.
I't a well written and plotted story, with vivid characters and great descriptions of what it means to live on a ranch. I love Ray and Travis and there's so much tension between them that it practically jumps off the page. Despite the undeniable attraction there's conflict between them from the beginning since fear of reprisals keep them both living in the closet.

This was a classic m/m love story. We had insta love; (almost) barn burning; small tenacious woman defending her boys with a shot gun; horses; near-death experiences & an (implied) HEA. I know, I know, I am SUCH a cynic. Having said that, this is the kind of book I was in the mood to read so I enjoyed it. Chase is able to write erotic prose very well which lifts this book from the mundane to the sublime at times but I did think the lead-up to the consummation of the relationship was a tad dr...more

I was excited upon receiving this book. I mean, who doesn't love cowboys with their swagger and the sexy drawl? Much like with shifters, this is one subject I can always read about. So why the low rating? I'll do my best to explain.
Ray is a closeted ranch owner who saw how hard the life of a gay cowboy could be. Afraid of irrational hate and losing his ranch, he keeps his desires far away from home. In comes...more

I must be the only person on the planet who did not like Brokeback Mountain in any of its incarnations. While some people might compare L.C. Chase’s Long Tall Drink to that movie, I totally disagree. Yes, there are similarities. Both have hot cowboys in love, but to me Brokeback Mountain only covered the surface of a relationship between two men, while Long Tall Drink dives deep into the complexities of two gay men in an isolated and homophobic society.

I don't read a lot of cowboy m/m books because I see the same plot points in all of them: closeted rancher meets closeted drifter, they hook up, homophobic ranch hand causes trouble, exposure becomes less important than the new romance and all is well in cowboy land. I still picked this one up because I liked Open Tackle during the HSD event and wanted to see what the author could do in a longer format. I must say that this book was a very pleasant surprise. Sure, those same points are here as w...more
I really loved this story. I put off reading it for so long because I thought it would contain a lot of smut but imagine my surprise when it was the exact opposite!
I loved the attraction and intensity between Travis and Ray. It was so thick that every interaction between them was layered with sexual tension. It was so nice to finally read a cowboy story that didn't have them jumping into bed right away. These boys are so different but they crave the same things. Travis is a drifter, he's a great...more

This is Travis and Ray's story. Ray owns a ranch in Montana and on his way back from seeing his lover (who he must keep a secret) he picks up a hitchhiker who turn out to be Travis a renowned horse trainer who is on his way to take a job at the neighboring ranch. There is instant attraction between these two men.

I just have to say the sexual tension between these two characters drove me insane. Ray and Travis were so obviously wanting to be together but stubbornness kept them apart.
L.C. Chase has such a way with the descriptions I felt like I was out on the ranch with the guys. Very good!
I really hope this is part of a series. There was a younger character that left me wondering what will become of him.
If you love stubborn, sexy as sin cowboys this is a must read.

I'm having a hard time describing this book, but, holy hell, what an extremely emotionally tense read this was! The tension between Ray and Travis sizzled and kept me turning pages. Ms. Chase has definitely mastered the art of chemistry because I don't remember the last time I read a book that was so titillating although the first kiss between the main characters took place halfway through the book. I highly recommend reading this one!
This was a solid read by a new author for me. The writing was really well done and gave me glimpses of how much more this story could have been. The story follows a similar path as other cowboy genre plots. I enjoyed the build up of sexual tension in the story and really did like both Ray and Travis. The moments of vulnerability were the scenes that really grabbed me and are what will lead me to reading another L.C. Chase book.
I really loved this story. A light and easy feel good book. I could feel the chemistry between Ray and Travis from the beginning but it was nice that their coming together didn’t happen right away, sometimes slow is perfect and it was for these two. I could feel their frustration and at times wanted so badly to hit one or both to get them moving. It’s a beautiful love story with a small amount of angst and a few places ‘oh please no’ and then *sigh* my favorite an HEA!

Artist by day, author by night, L.C. Chase is a hopeless romantic, free spirit, and adventure seeker who loves hitting the open road just to see where it takes her. When not road tripping or writing about beautiful men falling love, L.C. can be found drawing, horseback riding, or running the trails with her goofy four-legged buddy, who, if he were human, would be a stand up comedian.
