A wonderful story of death, reapers and demons. Penot takes you on a ride filled with ritual and mythology. Penot doesn't shy away from the bleakness of death, and yet makes it beautiful. I very much enjoy stories that cross boundaries and delighted in this one. And Arawyn? YUMMY.

A rather heavy story ...filled with life and death (and the in-between), gods and goddesses, demons and myths. Everything from the light to the darkest dark comes to life as the Fates weave their tapestry. It had me pondering whether or not I may have bitten off more than I could chew.

Cera, our leading lady, begins life in a most ordinary way, but it’s ended very suddenly leaving her in spirit form to continue on her journey…and although she doesn’t know it, carry out a prophesized upheaval with

Ms. Penot is AMAZING with characterization. They come in both forms, good and evil, and each is compelling and beautiful in their own way. I immediately connected with with our leading lady, Cera, and felt invested in her journey. Cera struggled with her guilt as a mother leaving her children in life and eventually allows herself to let go. This is when she enters Death's dream kingdom, eventually uncovering her li

It’s funny, I just read and loved Jessica Penot’s Twilight Saint and now I can say the same for Deaths’ Dream Kingdom. It’s a very intriguing book that literally keeps you guessing, which honestly is great for me because I can not stand it when I know at page two what is going to happen at the end!

I’ve also been reading a bit of mythology and you’ll find that in here also but it never weighs the book down, it adds to the information in the book and there is a lot! At times it is a little much wi

I loved this world Penot created. It was dark, dreary, gothic, and depressing. The type of world often romanticized in other stories and poems was beautifully mastered in this book.
The blend of lost spirits, damned souls, mythological and powerful gods (Isis for example), demons, vampires, and more makes the reader glad they are trapped in this after life underworld and NOT here on earth.

It took me a bit of time to appreciate our main character Cera. She was your typical no questions asked, fo

Cera is murdered one night while out running, she finds herself a spirit whom refuses to leave her family and so stays there for years until she finally accepts that it is time to move on.
She is escorted by Sin a reaper to the tree of life where she is introduced to Dismis, who resides over the tree and makes her a reaper herself, she soon discovers that Dismis and his fellow reapers are not doing their job properly and are leaving the spirits to wander around aimlessly and not giving them the p

In Death’s Dream Kingdom, Jessica Penot tugs at the fabric of reality. She turns everything you think you know on its head, weaves a vivid world with seraphims, gods, demons, hollow men and Death himself.

Her writing style reminds me of Neil Gaiman--sparse and powerful. An understated elegance and profoundness.

Cera and Arawyn are a love story I can sink my soul into. Torn apart by their very nature but always finding each other across the lifetimes.

I loved how the author interspersed parts of T

The beginning of this book really took me by surprise I have no idea why mainly I guess it was because the author started out the book by killing off the main character. Which I have never seen done before, its different cause usually you find out about the main character and learn about her life and who she was, you just get to know them and go from there. I really enjoyed it for being so different and the really awesome names the author picked for some of the characters. Jessica made you go in ...more

Death’s Dream Kingdom was an exhilirating read. Death’s Dream Kingdom is a story about life today and life after death. It had entricate characters that gives more depth to the story which only makes the adventure more exciting especially with the inclusion of Greek mytholody. I have loved Greek mythology as long as I can remember and Penot’s version of it through Death’s Dream Kingdom was beautiful. I think the only think I can comment negatively about the book is that the first part has been c ...more

Jessica Penot pens "Death's Dream Kingdom" filled with imagination, paranormal existence, romance and mythology. A truly excitingly imaginative journey into the afterlife that hooked me from the start. Highly recommended to all parannormal/mythology lovers.

The way in which the author depicts life and the hereafter kept me engrossed in "Death's Dream Kingdom." While interspersed with Greek mythology, there were additional characters along the story line that added a level of interest to the book from a wholly different perspective. After finishing this book my first thoughts were, "When does her next book come out?"
