Loved is the sixth and final short story in The Zagzagel Diaries, a contemporary fantasy series that features the continuing story of “a day in the life” of the Angel of Wisdom, Zagzagel, and the trials and tribulations of his human wards as he attempts to save them from imminent tragedy and help them to find their way.

I can't imagine a more rewarding or DEEPLY satisfying entry to fill in the final pages of Zagzagel's diaries. Zag, as he calls himself, has always empathized on a very deep and personal level with each and every one of his charges leading up to this final entry. Forsaken, Denial, Desperate, Lost and Broken. What next if not Loved? For millennia he has given so much of himself as he put his human charges first, more often than not going against the rules set down by Big Papa and being reprimanded...more I can't imagine a more rewarding or DEEPLY satisfying entry to fill in the final pages of Zagzagel's diaries. Zag, as he calls himself, has always empathized on a very deep and personal level with each and every one of his charges leading up to this final entry. Forsaken, Denial, Desperate, Lost and Broken. What next if not Loved? For millennia he has given so much of himself as he put his human charges first, more often than not going against the rules set down by Big Papa and being reprimanded for his actions. Surely now he deserves something for himself as a reward for his service and dedication to Big Papa and to his very uniquely difficult cases.

I believe that Zag was chosen specifically and especially for each and everyone of these "most difficult cases" because like Zag, each of his charges is someone others all too often see as unacceptably different. Zag sees them as endlessly fascinating, uniquely beautiful, and desperately in need of someone in their lives who understands what it is like to be different and to feel isolated and alone in that difference. With his special abilities and vast experience he is extremely intuitive and more than qualified in determining (often spur of the moment by instinct alone) how BEST to help and guide them when they need him most. I believe this is why Big Papa made so many allowances for Zag and even with the continuous bending and breaking of the rules and the constant need for reprimands he still sends him back out to his charges time and again. Zag was more than getting the job done, above and beyond the call of duty and in his very own unique and special way. Zag and his charges are quite literally a match made in heaven.. Papa knows best.

All the while Zag's been watching over his charges Big Papa's been watching over Zag and not only in terms of job performance. To everything- turn, turn, turn. There is a season- turn, turn, turn. And a time for every purpose under heaven. Have each of Zag's charges been assigned to him in preparation for what is yet to come... for him? The all seeing, all knowing Big Papa knows that Zag is burning out and questioning everything he has ever known about Big Papa, the human race and even himself and his work. It's time to step in before Zag's single minded dedication to his charges and his own personal crisis cause him to lose himself completely and totally in the process, acting and feeling increasingly more human than angel.

This series has clearly been a labor of love and not only in terms of Zag's dedication to his charges. Bryl R. Tyne has touched our hearts and minds, sharing with us all a much loved, often irreverent and all too human minded Guardian Angel to take us on a journey of discovery. With each diary entry the author has given us a very diverse group of charges as seen through the eyes of this very special angel. Each of these charges is someone who was at a crisis point in their lives, on the very edge of self destruction, with barely a glimmer of hope left to anchor them. There is something here for everyone, an opportunity to get a glimpse into the lives and minds of several different individuals struggling to come to terms with not only how others see them but with how they see themselves. It's a sampling of the diversity in our sexual identities, a chance to celebrate our differences as human beings and to acknowledge that despite those differences, no matter who or what we are, deep inside we are all the same, we all want and hope for the same things in life and we are all worthy and deserving of unconditional love and acceptance.

The Zagzagel's Diaries have taken me on a very memorable, emotional and enlightening journey and given me a lot of food for thought, and most of all on a very personal level, a heartfelt and sincere hope and prayer that there will always be someone who cares enough to watch over each and everyone of us, angel or human, even if we might never "see" them. Who knows what form our own personal Zaggy inhabits in our lives, perhaps as with each of Zag's charges, our guardian angel will appear in the form we most need to see.
THIS is Zaggy's gift to us all.

I HIGHLY recommend this Series. The faith and trust I have in this author's writing and his obvious love of Zag AND Zag's charges was as always well and safely placed.

With a series a short stories, less than 10 pages each, Bryl R. Tyne introduces the reader to a character, the guardian angel Zagzagel who promises to be the source of many more delightful stories. As rightly for a story about angels and lost hopes, there is a tinge of sadness, but luckily that doesn’t turn into a tragedy.
