This book gives the inside look at Michael's life through the eyes of his brother, Jermaine. The book gives the reader and honest look at Michael's life, his struggles, his triumphs, his tragedies, his love for his family, his musical genius, his surprisingly strong business savvy, and so on. Jermaine Jackson sets the record straight regarding the salacious allegations of the sexual abuse of children, getting to the heart of the matter by sharing information the general public did not get becaus...more

Jermaine Jackson presents an endearing account of his younger brother Michael, through the unique perspective only a sibling can offer.

This book chronicles experiences growing up in the Jackson household, finding fame as the Jackson 5, Michael's solo career and later years, as well as his personal troubles and legal battles.

Throughout the book, Jermaine presents a series of long-standing myths about his brother, and then immediately debunks them by telling the real story.

Michael Jackson, in s...more

Considering that I initially resisted buying Jermaine's book because of my feelings towards some of Michael's siblings and some things done and said since his tragic passing, I can't recommend You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through a Brother's Eyes highly enough to other MJ fans.

This is a loving tribute to an often misunderstood (by the media especially) genius, a modern Renaissance man who longed to be Peter Pan, and who, through his art and resultant global fame, really did fly to the highest of...more

This is undoubtably the best "biography" on Michael that I have ever read. Michael's most dear brother, Jermaine, has given us the most endearing, honest and eye-opening account on the shelves to date (and I suspect that this will be the most widely read and lasting). Yes it's that good. From the moment four year old Michael appears on the page, wide-eyed and dreamily looking out his window while quietly singing a forbidden Christmas carol, you can't help but fall in love with him. If you are a...more

After having the pleasure of attending the Tribute Concert in Cardiff, this book has taken on a particular poignancy for me. I had the privilege of seeing Gladys Knight and Smokey Robinson perform live after reading how The Jacksons had met and idolised them in their early years! Anyway, enough of that(:-))- Jermaine's descriptions of their tiny home, their emotions, the hardwork and dedication required before being spotted and an explaination of how these experiences shaped theirs and Michael J...more

I was a big Jackson 5 fan when I was a lot younger, but as Michael Jackson's fame and noteriety grew, my fascination waned.

In his book, Jermaine Jackson takes the reader back to those early years before the Jackson 5 were discovered by Motown, and follows Michael's career up to his death.

For the most part, it's a well written insight from someone who was *there* for a lot of it, and who is open enough to tell his readers when he *wasn't* a first hand witness to certain events, for which I admire...more

I've really not that I should I say enjoy this book but have really like it. Jermaine Jackson have did a wonderful job. I really love to read bio's even the one about the jacksons. When I read the first few chapters I was so trying to get the thrills out of it. But then at the end of it was so sad that Jermaine have to announce that his borther is gone (I mean dead rather) :'-( at in LA hopstial at 2:22pm west cost time. So I wounld have to say that it's not that bad but some of the book like wh...more

Let me begin by saying I never was a Jackson 5 or Michael Jackson fan. I liked a few of their songs but they never "floated my boat". That said, I came into reading this book thinking it would be a totally biased "puff piece." It was not. Jermaine Jackson was biased but in a way that a brother would naturally be defending his brother. But, he also writes about the domineering Papa Joseph Jackson and his total stranglehold on the family during the early years. Also, he writes about many of the i...more

Wow. As I closed the book after reading the final line, I couldn't help but feel sad. Sad for Michael, sad for his family and sad for the fans who lost such a talented, inspiring person.

This book, written by his brother Jermaine, gave me a better insight to Michael as a person. In the second half of his life, he was wrongly persecuted because he was an easy target. As a trusting individual, MJ opened his home and heart to millions of children and their families and unfortunately it was exploited...more

A really moving and insightful look into the Jackson family's history. The book is marketed as something that is focused on Jermaine's view of his brother Michael's life, which it is, but it also details a lot about Jermaine and the rest of the family's lives. One thing that I wasn't expecting, was my feeling of empathy with their at times, abusive father Joe. Once Jermaine painted the picture of how tough the area they grew up in, in Gary Indiana, you can understand why Joe pushed them so hard...more

There are a lot of books written about Michael Jackson, but none from the point of view of a brother. His intention is to clear up misconceptions. He sometimes loses his focus by sharing stories of his own life or other family members that have nothing to do with the book's primary focus. You can tell that much work and thought was put into the book's content. I do love how he ended the book.

Jermaine Jackson's book is a well-written exploration of the phenomena of Michael Jackson. Although Jermaine faced challenges in the Jackson family, including leaving the Jackson Five when he disagreed with them leaving Motown Records, the book seemed objective and truthful. Jermaine also had the benefit of being an older member of the Jackson siblings, so he could recount memories that the others might not have as clearly.

I'm still in the process of reading this book. I am very impressed with it. It is easy to read, but written in a very intelligent manner. It is truly written through the eyes of a brother. It is definetely not a scandal rap on Michael Jackson, but a touching portrayal of a sensitive, intelligent and innocent young man, who just happened to be endowned with a tremendous talent!

I found this quite a hard biography to read. His brother wrote the story of their childhood up to the memorial service and the investigation into his death. It tells how close he came to losing his entire fortune.

I enjoyed reading this book. Sometimes I questioned the validity of what I was read but, overall, I appreciated receiving Jermaine's perspective regarding his brother Michael's life and career.

Lovely book but sad In some parts Jermaine has done an wonderful job capturing the true man himself his brother I cried at the end it was so beautiful an must read for any jacksons fan.

It is a really good bookl it made Michael seem like a normal person instead of the big superstar we all see him as! Jermaine wrote this book for his brother out of love, not money. If you are a big MJ fan than this book is for you. Warning the ending is very sad. I cried.

I loved this book. Written by his brother, Jermaine; it was refreshing to get a look at the "real" Michael; the most misunderstood man who ever lived.
Laura
Found this book to be more about Jermaine than Michael's life. Some insight into the life of his brother but not as much as I would have liked.
Terri
It was really well written and very interesting. I feel I understand what he was like better now.

All in all pretty good. Makes you think about his life and how the last few years unfolded.

I decided to read this book because somebody recommended it to me. This book shows the life of Michael Jackson through his brothers eyes and shows a different perspective and a whole other side to his life. I thought this book showed an amazing life from beginning to end and if your a Michael Jackson fan you should definitely read it.

Good book about Jermaine's account of his life and the life of Michael. Found out some stuff that I didn't know. If you have seen "The Jacksons - An American Dream" you would find that you've heard most of the info in about 2/3s of the book. Recommended for those who love bios and are big MJ/Jackson fans.

If anyone really wanted a glimpse inside the world of children and fame, this book would be it. Jermaine takes you through the triumphs and tribulations in the life of his brother, The King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. It made me laugh and cry. It's just so raw and very much worth the read.

“Michael applied himself better than I did at school. His thirst for knowledge was far greater than any of the rest of us. He was that curious kid who asked, 'Why? Why? Why?' and he listened to and logged every detail. I'm sure his head had an in-built recording chip for data, facts, figures, lyrics and dance moves.” 5 people liked it
“There was no such thing as fear of failure because Joseph made us imagine - and believe in - success: think it, see it, believe it, make it happen.” 4 people liked it
