Lovely novel - nicely balanced plot and the author has a great ear for dialogue. I enjoyed how much of a book lover's book it was, with little references to all sorts of things worked in here and there, like little sparkly gems. My only criticism would be that one or two turns of phrase made me cringe a bit, particularly the foetus/pregnancy metaphor used in relation to Niki at one point. It's a minor point though, in an otherwise cracking little novel.
Overly simplistic writing and plot, and the dialogue was just awkward. I don't know any teenagers who talk like that. Halfway through the book the MC runs away from home and turns up on her friend's doorstep. The friend -- a hard-as-nails inner city London girl -- exclaims, "You gave us all a scare!" Really?
