I should admit right off the bat how skeptical I was to pick up this book. I can say with some certainty that I am not much of a fan of Salvatore's fantasy works. I hated the Dark Elf Trilogy so much that I abandoned it about halfway through. After reading Vector Prime, I realized this wasn't a slight on the author's writing abilities. Salvatore is a great writer, I just did not care for the character he had created in those novels. So if you're not much of a Drizzt fan and Salvatore's name on t

I read quite a few SW books when I was a teenager - then they got boring and routine and were all about the same thing: some bad guy has a superweapon and the gang has to save the universe, yada yada yada.
So, I was in a bookstore looking for something to read on vacation and I saw a Star Wars book called Exile and thought, "well, golly! I haven't read one of those in over ten years - this will be fun!" Well, that book was fourth in a series - and there was a whole other se More...

This is really a fine tale. Not too surprised that Salvatore could pull it off but then again, he did it within the Star Wars universe. Heart-pumping action and a horrific new villain. I liked this enough to buy the next two books in this series.

I read the first eight New Jedi Order books in high school around 2003. I remember enjoying them at the time, but not so much the substance of them, etc. They aren't as memorable to me as other things that I've read, though maybe they deserve a second look. I think this was my first Salvatore book, and I do remember enjoying the way he painted the picture of the post-film trilogy Star Wars universe.

At the time, the New Jedi Order felt like slightly more grown-up Star Wars EU fiction. This probably sounds a bit like an oxymoron, and it may just be because I was about 16 years old when I started Vector Prime, rather than, y'know, like how I was 10 when I read the Thrawn Trilogy.
Vector Prime starts off the whole NJO arc with a bang. Well, really more of a moon-crashing-into-a-planet thud. But anyway, I say it's slightly more grown-up EU because it's clearly launching itself down a More...

I read over 100 novels every year, in many different genres. I have read a lot of science-fiction and about 11 of the Star Wars novels. Just so you'll know where I'm coming from, I admit to a certain bias for RA Salvatore. I regard his fantasy works as among the best of contemporary authors. Having said that, I was thrilled when I first learned he would pen a volume of the SW universe. Finally I would get to read high quality SW adventure the way it was meant to be (Timothy Zahn also achieves th

I'm re-reading the series. It's been several years. At one point I owned the entire series of the New Jedi Order in mass-market -- and during a move that I was not at home to supervise, they disappeared. Which was interesting since they were literally being moved from one side of a duplex to another, from one bedroom to another. So it's not like they fell off the truck!! Some say they may be hiding in a box, hidden in the dark, shadowy depths of the duplex's extra garage....but who would dare go

The first English-language book I read when I was in highschool. My fascination for Star Wars stretched so far even beyond the galaxy far, far away brought me to this book. I trudged through its pages, getting to know obscure words that filled every page of this book. I remembered there was one sentence in this book which needed me to open my dictionary for thirteen times. OK, that was my effort. However, I'm quite disappointed with the book, after my laborious effort, I thought the book just ge

OK, lets just make it clear...my name is Peter and I am a Star Wars addict! The original 3 movies formed such a major part of my childhood that I cant now imagine life without them. Sad huh. Anyway "Vector Prime" is the first New Jedi Order novel in the so-called Star Wars Expanded Universe. It picks up about 25 years after "A New Hope" (the original movie... ie. part 4) and has all the expected characters (beware one major character dies in this story), some new heroes, and

I remember when Vector Prime first came out some ten years ago, and all of the talk was about Chewbacca's death. Some fans felt betrayed, while others liked the vulnerability of the main characters. I thought Salvatore (the author) did a fantastic job in making Chewie's death both heroic and tragic, and liked the idea that "even the good guys could die" in this burgeoning series.

The first installment in the New Jedi Order series starts off slowly and I admit it took me a while to get into the action. I felt the new antagonists were somewhat lacking in that certain something that it takes to get me invested. Things eventually got better but this isn't the strongest expanded universe offering I've read. The climax feels rushed and it falls into the trap of wrapping things up for the sake of getting to a place where the next book can begin. It didn't feel like a complete i

great book - action packed - great start to the series - because it stands alone well - if u didn't like the premise (weirdo) then u could stop after this one without feeling your stopped in the story. Of course this novel was very controversial when released - becasue of the death of a certain main character from the films. But it serves a purpose - i setting up the style of the series and starting the emotional, deep, character changing arcs through the series. good read, adventure, satisfying

I'm a huge Star Wars fan but even I thought this book was only so-so. There were a lot of aspects of the Yuuzhan Vong that I though could have used some more explanation. Particularly, the ooglith cloakers. I had trouble envisioning what these things looked like once put on. The Vong must appear more human with them on since Yomin Carr used one to fool the scientists on Belkadan. Also, what do the Vong sound like? I imagine they sound pretty ferocious when not trying to masquerade as human

For fans of the original Star Wars films this is a good solid story with adventure and excitement galore. Set 25 years after the events of the original A New Hope film, the galaxy comes under threat from an invading force of frightening warriors. And who should stumble across this invading force? Han Solo with his ever-present sidekick, Chewie. Han's wife Leia, their jedi-trained kids Jacen, Jaina and Anakin (it's been 25 years after all). Luke and his wife Mara, whose rapidly failing health wil

The new Jedi order completely outpaces anything in the Starwars genre. This series was Dark, exciting, fast paced, and inspired. The writing was fantastic and the level of philosophy and force history was unparalleled. If your a fan at any level of the Starwars Universe than this series is a must read. It is on my top 5 of all time for a series and I treasured every moment I spent in that time. But beware, this isn't your typical Starwars book, be ready for a level of intensity that you've never

Although R. A. Salvatore is known more for his fantasy works, especially the series about his famous dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden, with Vector Prime he has handled himself in the Star Wars universe fairly adeptly. He has introduced an interesting new group of villains, and arguably wrote the most important moment so far in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, with a beloved character from the original movie trilogy dying.

4.0 stars. I just reread this book as I was going to read the next books in the series and it had been a long time since I read this story. It was terrific. As a "Star Wars" book, this is clearly meant to be the literary equivalent of a "summer blockbuster" which is not a bad thing by any means (I equate it to a lot of the other "fun" read books like the Dresden Files Series and the Harry Potter series). Well this book was an incredibly fun read. On top of being a f

21 years after the fall of the Empire, the New Republic faces an evil greater than they ever imagined. This enemy force -- known as the Yuuzhan Vong -- numbers in the hundreds of thousands; uses organic beings as vehicles, weapons, and armor never before seen by the Republic; are highly skilled warriors; and, worst of all, do not fall under the control of the Force. As outposts, fighter squadrons, and, eventually, entire planets fall to the Vong, Republic reps Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Leia Orga

Vector Prime is such a great sci-fi book that I just can’t wait to read the other 18 books in The New Jedi Order series. I wish I had read this five years ago; perhaps I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much because of my disinterest in reading. Either way, I enjoy it so much now.
Not as long ago, in a galaxy far, far away, the book follows the classic Star Wars characters on their quest to fight a newly discovered enemy. In fact, a large portion of the first book, Vector Prime, is an int More...

I enjoyed this often controversial Star Wars book. I would not rank it among the best Star Wars books, but more as a passable sci-fi novel. I do really enjoy the way the author has taken the series, as it is a nice change to see a truly new enemy arise, instead of the Republic having to beat back the Empire that never seems to die. Hopefully more details and characters will be brought forward in the following books. Overall not a bad read, but certainly nothing amazing.

Vector Prime was a great read. I am not the biggest fan of R.A. Salvatore, but in this book, I found that his writing style is not quite the same as his other books. He does some things that are unexpected, but not always unwelcome. However, after a while, you start to get the feel for what the characters are going to do just based on the way that Salvatore writes them.

This is a horrible book: it takes far too long to get going, and goes to slowly when it does. I didn't get into the New Jedi Order books until a few years after it started because I could not get through this book. I want to be clear that I don't have anything against the author, I've read some of his other star wars stuff and enjoyed it but I don't think his style was well suited to launch this series.

I had read other Salvatore books (Ice Wind Dale) and thoroughly detested them. I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I discovered that all of his books are pathetic. It is like reading the narrative from a poorly planned role-playing game. I wonder if Salvatore has an uncle who is a publisher because definitely has no talent as a writer.

A absoulte wonderful addition to the Star Wars library, this series was very nicely written..except for Chewy dying and Han becoming a basketcase for most of the series. the first star wars books i read were the jedi academy books about jacen and jaina and their friends written for the youth set...it was a delight to see those characters return-if only to die.
