I think this book should be required reading for every young person, parent, or divorcee. I've been lucky enough to have been married for 43 years, but there should be no luck involved! Dr. O'Hara arms you with clear-cut, straightforward advice on how to look for criteria in a mate you'll be spending the rest of your life with. Her advice comes with a very important warning - that you decide on your acceptance and rejection list BEFORE you fall in love. Once you have your list, Dr. O'Hara's book ...more

Despite being happily divorced, I found this book to be a very interesting and well-written read.

The author proposes checklists and a step-by-step method of approaching the daunting task of finding a suitable partner. The idea of a checklist was contrary to my own approach to dating in my 20s but I remembered that I initially decided I would NEVER marry... A checklist would have made me think more carefully about what I expected.

This book is a great book for people who are contemplating marriage, or who have divorced and are seeking information on how to be more successful in a second marriage. At first I thought it was somewhat simplistic, but then I realized that Dr. O'Hara was tailoring the book for a wide audience. It is not an academic book, but rather more of a practical handbook with practical tips, such as the chapter entitled "Using Common Sense to Protect Yourself".
