I used to murder people for money, but these days it’s more of a survival technique.

Once an assassin, always an assassin. So much for being plain old Gin Blanco. With every lowlife in Ashland gunning for me, I don’t need another problem, but a new one has come to town.

Salina might seem like a sweet Southern belle, but she’s really a dangerous enemy whose water elemental m...more

My honest review :

To summarize:
Gin Blanco, the former assassin has a new problem in Ashland.
Salina Dubois is back in town for her own agenda and Owen has a past with her.
Salina, being woman... we know how vicious a woman can get and what a hissy fit she will throw if she doesn't get what she wants.
And Owen, being "caught" in between.
We get to know how Owen got his broken nose, his past that he did not share with Gin, his history with Kincaid and what poor Eva...more

What? They're too perfect to break up!

EDIT: Just finished reading it. There were, what, 3 actions scenes, tops, in the whole book. This one was definitely a slow-paced book, compared to the rest of the series. THe romance was the only thing that managed to disappoint me. I'm still looking forward to Deadly Sting, though!
Full review to come.

My rating: 3/5 stars
First line:“Breaking into the building was easy. Too easy for an assassin like me.”
Favourite quote:“For a moment, I almost felt sorry for her. Then the bitch blasted me with her water magic, and I got over it.”
Song of choice: Serial Killer by Lana del Rey

In Widow’s Web many things happen. Or at least on the emotional front. But first things first, let me make a quick summary of the book. Salina Dubois, Owen’s ex fiancee comes back in town determined to kill all those who witn...more

4 1/2 Stars!! I was uneasy going into this one, but in the end, I was pleasantly surprised!!

I had heard tale about a rift that would form between Gin and Owen, but considering the circumstances, it was well done, and leaves the reader hopeful. Theirs is a story that no doubt will resolve itself as the series moves forward. We have to remember that this is an urban fantasy, and although this amazing pairing adds an extra layer of depth to the story, one that this reader enjoys immensely, it’s n...more

WIDOW’S WEB is book seven in the Elemental Assassin series and this time, Estep makes it personal.

Gin Blanco has a new enemy in town. Her name is Selina Debouis and rumor has it, the water elemental is back in Ashland after her long disappearance to seek revenge. But it seems that that’s not the only thing Selina has her eyes on...

Owen, Gin’s lover and Selina have a complicated past. Struggling at a young age to survive, Owen, Selina, Owen’s younger sister, Eva and Gin...more

Exciting, riveting, a really fun read in Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassins series.

I had stopped reading this series about a year ago. I loved the world, the characters, the stories – however the books were rife with repetition, especially the characters’ eye colors. The repetition was so distracting that I had contemplated a drinking game, but then I’d never be able to finish the book. Instead, I just stopped reading the books, which was a shame because the author does tell a good story.

Synopsis: Gin Blanco, the semi-retired assasin formerly known as the Spider, is finally happy. Until a new evil, Salina Dubois, comes into down. Not only is she evil, but she also happens to be Gin’s boyfriend’s ex. After someone comes after crime lord Phillip Kincaid, who has his own history with Owen, Gin is back in the killing game. But this time, she may risk her own heart in the process.

Review: I love the Elemental Assassin series. Estep balances her characters and storyline so well! Gin Bl...more

“I stood there alone in the dark and wondered who the hell Salina Dubois really was, why she seemed to have such an effect on my lover, and what I was going to do about her. Because this was a matter of the heart—and one problem that all my knives and all my prowess as the Spider wouldn’t help me solve.”

Oh baby what a story! Estep really threw me for a loop with this story! Yes, I was warned that there would be a shock or two coming and to try not to spoi...more

Oh the angst, it HURTS!! I was prepared for the Gin and Owen drama, but it still stings with where things stand at book's end. I still believe they'll get through it, Owen is the one for Gin but the road can't be all smooth sailing.

The one tiny issue I had (which also makes me think Owen wasn't in his right mind, courtesy of Salina) was when he found out what Salina did to Eva when she was 4 years old, and Owen didn't kill Salina himself for what she did. That right there tells me not all was as...more

I think this was the weakest book in the series... I still enjoyed in and overall i would give it an 3.8 out of 5..

Gin Blanco as you know (7th book) is a powerful elemental assassin with control of two of the mayor elements, Ice and Earth..

The main antagonist (Salina) of this book is a water elemental that explains in the book is offshoot of the ice element. Gin has the major of ice and is POWERFUL, but to me she seems to come of as weak in her elements for offensive or defensive combat.

Gin Blanco has love, family a great business mmm pork, and everything seems to be going fine. Oh except for the idiots who try to make a name for themselves by going after her, the way gunslingers did in the old days. Of course there is also the fact that Owen's first love Salina (HIS EX FINACE'!) is in town. She is the widow who has killed 4 husbands using her water element and they all looked like Owen.
Men are idiots and Owen who has been so accepting of Gin shows his weak spot finally. He wa...more

The seventh book in Jennifer Estep’s Elemental Assassin series, WIDOWS WEB is filled with such emotional and physical intensity that it leaves you happily exhausted by the end. There are so many complex emotions and difficult choices for Gin since the plot focuses heavily on Owen’s past relationships. Throughout the series we’ve gotten hints about Owen’s interesting “rags to riches” history as he became a more integral part of Gin’s life. I was amazed at just how much was revealed about Owen and...more

Almost daily now, wannabe assassins try to kill Gin, making if difficult for her to do her job at the Porkpit. Then, to her surprise, Phillip Kincaid enters the restaurant. Phillip is one of the main crime bosses in Ashland, the one who controls all gambling, legal and illegal. He is not just there to sample the food, even though he clearly enjoys it. Phillip wants to hire Gin for a catering job on his riverboat in three days, where he will be hosting a party. Suspicious as always, Gin doesn’t k...more

There’s trouble in Gin’s world, and not just the run-of-the-mill come-kill-the-assassin variety either. This time, matters of the heart are involved, because who should show up in Ashland but the former love of Owen’s life?

Salina Dubois has returned, after years of planning and plotting, to take over her father’s business. Business that was so rudely interrupted when Mab Monroe burned him alive in front of his dinner guests. Now Salina is gunning for those who didn’t lift a finger against Mab th...more

Quick & Dirty: Gin Blanco versus a water elemental intent on stealing her lover and her life.

Opening Sentence: Breaking into the building was easy.

The Review:

Gin Blanco, the notorious assassin Spider, has basically been ousted. Now every two-bit-wannabe-bad-guy out there that wants to make a name for himself thinks that makes Gin ripe for the picking. Whatever. All of that, however, takes a back seat in Widow’s Web. Owen’s ex is in town and causing trouble...more

Seventh in the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series about a former assassin under attack from all sides in Ashland, North Carolina.

My Take
I did like the start of this story as Gin stalks a target. Most of the story is Gin's quandary over Owen's behavior. She wants to be as fair as Owen was in By a Thread and it is damned hard. It's relationships, memories, expectations, and revenge. One relationship that has really done a 180 is that between Gin and Bria. Wh-o-a. I never expected Bria to get...more

I just started this series and figured I would leave a review on the last book for everything.

OK first I picked these all up from my library and I doubt I will ever buy the books myself. The start of the series and Gin's occupation of assassin hooked me to start but the more I read the more the world and Gin's actions herself make me a little upset.

I understand as a plot device you can't have your heroine constantly be the ultimate power she needs things to overcome. That said she still acts lik...more

Another Thrilling Installment!

I strongly suggest you read the previous books in the series (Spider's Bite, Web of Lies, Venom, Tangled Threads, Spiders Revenge, Thread of Death - Novella and By A Thread) prior to reading this installment.

When I am looking for edgy entertainment with dark wit to match, this series never lets me down. Gin tries to rescue Owen from drowning in his past and almost goes under with him. This installment was the boldest yet!

Gin is a wicked retired assassin (although he...more

Gin has almost settled into a routine, albeit one dogged still by amateur assassins trying to prove they’re more deadly than the Spider. That is until Philip Kincaid, crime boss and one of the contenders for Mab’s old throne, comes into her BBQ restaurant to hire her. Not as an assassin, but as a caterer.

Of course, nothing’s that simple and when a deadly Elemental assassin tries to kill Kincaid during the party, it’s only Gin’s actions that save his life. From there it takes only a little while...more

Hmm..I just finished reading this book and I just have to say Owen really disappointed me. What happened to his unwavering love for Gin? What the heck?! And oh my god, poor Gin. This book was so depressing. If the other book ended in such happiness WHY O WHY must this one be so DESPRESSING?!

Anyway, despite it's depressing-ness, I still love the way it was written, the storyline and the awesome-ness of the main character. So despite being totally depressed by this book, I'd still recommend it to...more

Great book! I have to say I haven't been disappointed in any of the elemental assassin books. It's a great series, and this book is no exception. But what infuriated me in this book is Owen's attitude toward a psycho murderous bitch. Ok, she'd been his fiancee at least 15 years ago & he loved her. But please!!! Even though he finds out that she'd tortured his sister & made him beat his best friend to about an inch of his life back then & now that she's back she comes close to killing...more

In this, the seventh Elemental Assassin novel, Gin finds herself almost happy for the first time in years. Her arch nemesis is finally dead, she has a good relationship with her sister, only a dozen or so people have tried to kill her in the last little while and things couldn’t be better with Owen her lover. On the other hand, are they?

One night while Gin and Owen are out to dinner a blast from Owens’s past shows up…Salina an Elemental Water worker. Salina is from Owen’s deep past and he had be...more

Spoilers

Gin and Owen's relationship is tested when his ex, Salina, turns up to take over Ashland and win him back.

-The plot was engrossing, the pacing was great and most of the characters were as entertaining as ever.

-The reason I didn't give this a higher rating was because of 1) that bastard Owen and 2) the complete destruction of Owen and Gin's relationship. What I loved about Owen and Gin was how they both opened up to each other, how it came across that what they had they'd never felt befo...more

Widow’s Web is the seventh installment of the Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series, continuing to impress with a heroine who, book by book, allows readers under her substantial emotional defenses to show us yet another layer of the already multi-layered assassin known as The Spider. One of the most intriguing aspects of these books–outside a highly entertaining core cast of characters–is Ms. Estep’s ability to craft new and unique villains to take Gin on in each tale. After seven...more

This is the seventh book in the Elemental Assassins series and it may just be the best one to date. It's not a happy book by any means but I think that the events of this book were all absolutely necessary in order for characters and relationships to grow and, hopefully, emerge stronger.

This book introduces Salina DuBois, a water elemental and former Ashland resident, who blows into town with schemes in hand. She's not someone to take lightly as Gin soon learns and the fact that she has a past w...more
