"REJECTED", like "NO!" to an infant, is a word would-be authors hear frequently in their youth. Mike Nappa's 77 Reasons... is going to change that. Writers, read this now, regardless of whether you haven't published, submitted or even written anything yet. It's never too early or too late to obtain knowledge about the publishing industry from an industry veteran like Nappa. The book covers reasons for why books are rejected from the standpoint of the editorial, marketing and sales departments of...more

I can't recommend this book to writers because it's too discouraging.I'm a published author (I write these reviews under a pen name) and if I'd read this book before I tried to get published I would have given up. I'm not saying it's not hard to get published. It's extremely difficult but this book makes it seem impossible and that's just not true. Editors do have to make acquisitions for goodness sake and there are many novelists without platforms that get contracts. Nappa acts like you have to...more
This is a terrific book. Even if you aren't interested in publishing a book, you would find his writing very entertaining and helpful. His number one reason made me laugh... "Your writing is crap." and I was hooked. The nicest aspect of Nappa's 77 reasons is that he tells you WHY it's a reason and WHAT you can do about it. A very blunt opinion on what is and isn't going to work "in the business." This is also a great read if you would like to improve your writing skills. I'm going to really conc...more

This book would be most highly valued by those authors seeking to break into the traditional publishing sphere. As a younger writer, I found this book crucial to my ambitions for traditional publication. The author provides many the reasons why one would be rejected AND what to do about them. For every problem, he gives three solutions.

A fantastic book for the most common mistakes most authors make in publishing and writing books. Mike was a like a drill sergeant and relentless in his attempts to portray that anyone can write and it is those that take the time in both the writing and publishing steps are the ones more likely to be successful. You can be introverted when you write, but you have to be extroverted when you go to publish and market your book.
I am so glad that I read this book. It is straight forward and has an easy, conversational tone to it. It was a fast read and I learned a lot. It provided some excellent insight into the publishing world. After every one of the 77 reasons, there were three suggestions on how to avoid or fix the error. It is a valuable book that would be good for anyone aspiring to join some part of the publishing community.
This is a must-read book for anyone seeking to break into today's cut-throat world of publishing. I'm the author of 50 books and consider myself a pro, but I learned things I hadn't been aware of about what goes on behind the scenes at a publishing house. Besides that, it's simply a good read -- entertaining as well as informative.
An excellent book on how to (as far as possible) avoid rejection. The author can sometimes be a little harsh (he even apologizes for it at the end of the book) but most of the time it's on topics that writers need to hear. I would highly, highly recommend this book for anyone who's serious about getting published.
