The 2nd Book of the Wardstone Trilogy, Kings, Queens, Heroes, and Fools, did not disappoint. If you have already read Book 1, Book 2 starts with a wonderful surprise. I am not going to spoil it for you, but I was smiling and happy.

The familiar characters Mik, Hyden Hawk, and Gerard mature and develop. In addition, a whole host of new and diverse characters are introduced. The characters regroup after a tremendous shift in power and then reach out to create alliances and recover from the devastat...more

Book Review: 2 Treasure Boxes

The Dragon Queen has invaded and then usurped the Kingdom. The High King, along with his magical sword and wizard friends are trying to save the world from this evil and reclaim the Kingdom. But is she really evil, or should they be more concerned with her demon lover?

Kings, Queens, Heroes, & Fools is the second installment in the Wardstone Trilogy. Mr. Mathias has written numerous books, primarily fantasy novels, but he has also written a couple of Horror books...more

Some crude humor, some very unpolished writing [I am almost tempted to ask my cousin, who is a professional editor to go over this for my own enjoyment. I just can't afford her] but a really good follow up story to The Sword and the Dragon.

I did not see the death of one of the characters near the end coming. While it simplifies and cleans up the plot for the next book, it kind of seemed like an easy out.

But I really did enjoy this story. A good solid fantasy novel and I am looking forward to th...more

This is the second in the wardstone trilogy. After the battle royale in the The Sword and the Dragonthe second book takes up directly where the first book leaves off. Mikhail is now high king of almost all mankind's kingdoms and is pursuing to be king of the remaining ones. He must defeat the Dragon Queen, her wizards and her lizard men - the Zard, before he can accomplish this. He must also make sure she does not open the gateway to the Nethers where her powerful demon lover resides or all huma...more

Reading is something I do to get away from my job, everyday stresses, etc... Some authors write books that drag, some that seem to fly. This series starts slow, but picks up pace and before you know it you have progressed from a brisk walk to a marathon of screaming down the path. I was reading 3o tp 40 pages an hour at first, but by the end of the third book, I was reading over 100 pages an hour. Entrancing? Yes. Characters that you see developing and connecting, not only to themselves, but to...more

In book number two from The Wardstone Trilogy, Kings, Queens Heroes and Fools the quest continues as Author M.R. Mathias repertoire for creating a memorable tale carries on to new heights and dimensions.
Exotic scenes, numinous creatures give way to magical tales spinning a web of excitement keeping the reader on the edge of his or her seat.
This is a splendid read and you don’t necessarily have to be an aficionado of fantasy to enjoy this book.

Awesome book! There is just as much action, adventure, and good vs. evil battles in this book as there was in the first one! Mathias keeps the reader riveted to each page with fast-paced action and just a little political intrigue. Many of High King Mikahl's friends are killed in the story, but there is always the chance they will come back to life! I loved the part where the new dragon, Vrot, is introduced with all the pirates booty. And when Claret comes back to help end the battle between Ra'...more

Kings, Queens, Heroes, & Fools is the second book in the Wardstone Trilogy. M.R. Mathias picks up where he left off in The Sword and the Dragon. I am really enjoying this series and can't wait for the third book to be released. This book keeps all the strengths of the first book, but with a lot of the world building out of the way the characters and story are really given room to shine.

Since I don't want to give away any plot spoilers I'll skip the description and just say that if you were...more

I'm still enjoying this fantasy series a lot. Unlike a lot of second books in a trilogy, this one comes to a satisfying conclusion instead just being a bridge to the next book and leaving the reader hanging.

This author knows how to draw in a reader. I love his characters, settings, his ability to tell a story and keep all the details and pacing moving forward.

Good series, little sad that several characters I was really begining to like didnt make it to the end, but hey, they cant all make it. Looking forward to the 3rd book.

Writes like a preschooler. Don't know why I bothered starting the second book. Stopped after a dozen pages.

For me this wasn't as good as the first in the trilogy but a reasonable storyline. Will leave reading the final installment for a while.
Søren

Yet another good book. There were a few times when the story would break and follow another character when I thought it shouldn't, but all in all, it was a very good story.
Quaffer
Bad writing and clumsy, disjointed story telling. Decent idea for a story, just poorly executed.

1.5 stars is more accurate.

The jewel you see glowing in the ring in my authors photo isn't really a jewel at all. It is the crystallized tear of a real dragon. In my novel "The Royal Dragoneers" you might find the moment where this wonderfully magical tear drop fell from a green dragons eye and hardened on its way down to land in a mess of troll corpses that the dragon was laying on.

My grandfather died before I was born, bu...more
