My Evangeline and Caden:

“There are two kinds of spells.
Little, easy spells that you can learn and do anytime, anywhere—start fires, disguise yourself, that kind of stuff. But then there are other spells, where you’re directly altering fate—life and death. That’s a Causal Enchantment spell.”

I bought this book and it sat on my kindle forever, sad to say. The description threw me off. I thought it was going to be some kind of sarcastic mob style vampire book and the dreams that they mentioned would barely be explored and they'd be gruesome and uninteresting.
Wowza, was I wrong! I loved this book and can't believe I waited so long to start it. It flowed smoothly. I never got bored or stalled or wanted to put it down. I've read a lot of good books, but it's been a while where I've rea...more

Loved it! I really wasn't too sure about another Vampire book - but this was very unique! Almost a Vampire Dystopian. Lots of twists & suspense along with that little bit of romance that a great book needs! I am gonna be pulling my hair out waiting on the next installment!!
"Hello, my name is Jamie and I am free kindle book hoarder."
I literally download every single kindle book I see that is free and I might, maybe, someday read. Does this mean I read them all? No. Absolutely not. Most of the time I just sit there and look at them and then go and buy a book for 2.99 that I really wanted to read or that got rave reviews somewhere.

Loved it!
Talk about intriguing!!
I was fascinated at every turn.
Vampires, witches, parallel universes, talking dogs (well they don't talk, but their master can hear the dog's voice in their head ... I'd love for my Dalmatian to say to me "hey mum, get me a snack will ya?" instead of nosing me all the time teehee)
Clever, entertaining, and with a hint of love
And there is another book to come *happy dancing*

Kathleen Tucker's debut novel Anathema was an amazing read! I couldn't categorize it as a Urban Fantasy YA read alone as there are some Dystopian aspects to it as well. The two different worlds she has created are both wonderfully amazing places one set in New York with shopping trips to Prada and extravagant homes. The other a world where theres no technology around and people live in caves with warm underground springs with beautiful waterfalls. The twist is whats the kicker here and I wish I...more

Man I was waiting forever for this book on the nook, and had to keep requesting it, so the day I found out nook had it I freaked out! The description of the book by the author totally does not do this book justice! However i don't think I could do it justice either, so you'll just have to read it!!

Please note: I read this e-book in September 2011 from a copy I picked up free on promotion from Amazon. I'm just updating the formatting. All opinions are my own.

Can I just say I totally dug this book?! Umm, I totally did. This is not just your teenager daughter’s YA novel. It is dark, clever & suspenseful, oh my.
We meet orphaned loner Evangeline right as she is stumbling (literally, the girl is a hot mess) into her plum new job as an assistant for the sophisticated and mysterious Sophie. Major new perks of her new job include a move to New York, unlimited Prada, Burberry, cash and perhaps having a pseudo home to call her own. She should have read t...more

Once again I find myself feeling empty having finished an amazing book I threw myself into. I cant read a book that I cant really get into. This one immediately transported me to a different world and had me living vicariously through the main character. When she was happy, I smiled. When she was upset or hurting, I was too. I couldn't stop reading and while I did, reality drifted away instantly. I'm reading the sequel as soon as I can get my hands on it!

This book was beyond anything I've read in a while! The characters were well defined, you felt for them. The action was intense and the lies and schemes of so many of the characters had your head spinning from what they were willing to do to be reunited with loved ones. The concept of another world where vampires have killed off all humans is very unique but at the same time there is our world where vampires aren't the dominate species. Then theres Evangeline , our heroine, who is orphaned and l...more

I was actually pleasently surprised by this. It was interesting and kept me wanting to read, vampires with a twist and stuff. The only reason I'm giving it 3.5 stars is because the MC was spineless. She coward and cried and had no backbone. People talked down to her and she didn't stand up for herself. Even at the end she had like a brave moment that last about 1 paragraph. I realize they are vampires and really, you don't stand a chance, but you can still be sassy!

Prepare yourselves for a real treat because this book is a gem! "Anathema" is one of these books you simply can't put down. You are stuck in it because you just HAVE to know what is going to happen next!

You should think that with so many vampire books out there, you won't find much new anymore. Think again. In her book K. A. Tucker presents quite a unique combination of vampires, sorcerers, and parallel worlds.

Dislaimer: I think this is the first YA vampire book I've read, which is shocking since there are so many out there and the topic is quite popular right now. (I haven't even read Twilight) but I kind of get the idea that Anathema has a Twilight vibe to it. Good vampires have to protect human girl from bad vampires.

When starting Anathema I hadn't read the synopsis in so long that it was like jumping into the dark. So when meeting Evangeline for the first time she seemed lost, but so would any other 17 year old in foster care with no friends. As she stumbled upon Sophie, literally, and instantly had a friendship, my mind was racing with "typical" directions that the book could go in.

Talk about leaving a girl suspended in midair…. And I am not just talking about the main character Evangeline, whose future is a blank slate of possibilities that will likely include pandemonium in every way. A khaki existence until a wicked and unbelievable opportunity is presented to her in the form of excitement, adventure, deception, and love…a chance to turn Khaki to Crimson. I too have been suspended in midair… nothing to cling to but my overactive imagination, playing scenes from this boo...more
Wow.
I picked this book up this morning. I began reading, and soon found that my Nook was permanently attached to my hand.
Who can you trust?
That is just the question Eve (Evangeline) is asking herself. Having grown up without a father, then having to live with the death of her mother. Evangeline felt alone. Then steps in her "saving grace" Sofie, well . . maybe. Meeting Sofie maybe wasn't such a great life saving event after all . . . or was it?

I just love a free book...especially when it is a good read. I downloaded this book when I noticed that it was...first off...FREE (woohoo!)...and by an author that I liked (Ten Tiny Breaths...rocked!!!). So I gave it a go.
What to say about Anathema? Hmmm...going in I had no idea what it was about other than there might be vampires involved. There were some rough patches in the beginning, but the book was surrounded in mystery...and I was in that...I-had-to-figure-it-out mode. I am so g...more

An interesting twist to yet another vampire story...I was intrigued. Evangeline truly is a sweet girl just looking to not be alone any longer. She has no job, no money, and no friends or family. Enter Sofie. A woman who sets her up with a perfect job...little does Evangeline know that there is a catch. Actually, there are a few twists and you don't know whether to trust Sofie or not...and it continues throughout the book. Evangeline moves to NY with Sofie, into a mansion with two other vampires....more

Anathema was a new and unique take on the paranormal genre. It had a wonderful mix of all the things that make a book unputdownable to me. Mystery, drama, romance and some action. I like books that keep me captivated and this one definitely did that through out!
Evangeline is a loner. Not necessarily by choice. She is a sweet, trusting and kind hearted girl that tends to be quite gullible. Her mother died when she was younger and she has never really been close to anyone since. Then she meets Sof...more

K.A. Tucker pulled me in from the very first page and I was disappointed for this book to end. However, my spirits lifted when I realized I could already get the other books and continue this story!
Evangeline is too naive and trusting for her own good. However, this character flaw doesn't make her annoying or unlikable. I think it made her more endearing. By the end of the story, she begins to grow. She realizes that she cannot take everything at face value, and actually starts thinking for hers...more

Wow, this was a completely new twist on the vampire stories!! With so many books, movies, and tv shows about vamps, it's hard to say there's anything unique out there involving the blood-suckers, but this is definitely something new! Tucker has thrown in witches, werebeasts, a dystopian setting, and a sci-fi twist of dueling universes to create a captivating, intriguing story unlike any other!
