When Paige Stewart left America to house-sit in England, her only thoughts were to get away from her controlling mother and to have fun. Little did she know that her working holiday would turn into a battle between good and evil, or that she would be the epicenter of that battle. She certainly didn’t expect to be swept off her feet by a modern-day English knight. But when ...more

I really loved this book and could not put it down! This is the story of an American girl named Paige who visits England the summer she graduates from high school to house sit. She thinks it will be a summer to have fun and get away from her mother. For the most part, it does not turn out that way. While there mysterious things begin to happen to her such as having visions, seeing ghosts and bleeding from old scars. She enters a shop in the town owned by Nathaniel Brightwater where she learns ab ...more

Paige was happy, this summer she would finally be free to experience life away from her over protective mother while getting to house-sit in England. What Paige never suspected was that the summer job all her friends where dying for would turn out to be well... not what she expected, hearing voices, weird dreams and her old scars start bleeding, where obviously not on her agenda.
Things start to look up when she meets the shopkeeper from what seems to be a new age store, who seems to be close by

When Paige Stewart left America to house-sit for family friends in England for the summer, her only thoughts were to escape her controlling mother and to have fun. Little did she know that her working holiday would find her hearing eerie voices, experiencing alarming dreams and bleeding from old scars. Although Paige's differences confuse and disgust her, she eventually opens up to the owner of a strange metaphysical store in town, where she finds much more than tarot cards and crystals.

Getting a chance to stay in a beautiful house in England was a dream come true for Paige Stewart. Until she found that things would not be as peaceful as she had hoped.
This story was filled with adventure and romance that will have you captivated from the very first page. England was a great setting for Paige to meet these modern day knights. The setting was beautiful and really helped to set the mood for the story.
The characters were interesting and somewhat mysterious making me want to get to

I don’t often read YA, but this little book was worth the deviation from my reading routine. It reads easy and fast. The protagonist, an American girl Paige, graduated from high school and took a job house-sitting in England. Torn from her comfortable, familiar environment, she is faced with strange and frightening events. Unexplained bleeding from her long-healed, childhood scars, ghostly apparitions in her bedroom, voices in her head – everything leads Paige to confusion and uncertainty, servi ...more

Veiled Virtues is a fun romp of a read. The premise/set-up is that the MC goes to England to house-sit right after her high school graduation and soon finds herself "haunted" by something in the house she's sitting. She also soon finds herself falling in love with a modern-day knight.
The set-up is interesting and different. I don't think I've read anything else quite like it - a modern order of knights, protecting against evil. Paige, the main character, was likeable enough and the action kept m

After, I read the description of "Veiled Virtues", I knew I had to read it. It's a young adult romantic fantasy book about modern day English knights and it's based in England (one of the countries I would love to visit one day).
Paige is off to house-sit in England after graduating from school. (I'm jealous of her because that has to be the perfect job ever) Once she gets to England though, strange things are happening to her. She's having nightmares, a gho

I groaned when I read the first page. Oh, no! Another angsty teenager whose mother hates her, blah blah blah.

Ms. Wade laid my fears to rest soon enough and kept me glued to the story before the end of chapter 1.

Paige is a high school graduate who's lucky enough to get a gig as a house sitter in England. What 18-year-old wouldn't be delighted at the prospect? On her own, a great place to live, a quaint village in the hinterlands. And even better, she meets Nathaniel, a too-hot-to-be-true real li

Veiled Virtues Jan Fischer-Wade
Author Jan Fischer-Wade spins a young adult tale with adult crossover appeal. Veiled Virtues captures all the angst of its teenaged heroine yet keeps the adult reader engaged in the story line. I particularly like the educational value of the stigmata aspect--something I doubt is taught in education these days. Well, done! I can hardly wait for the sequel

Veiled Virtues is the first book in a new series by Jan Fischer Wade. It is a quick and entertaining read that's perfect for an escape from reality and places you into an almost modern day fairytale. The main characters were likeable, and they all had a purspose within the story. The romance was fun, flirty, and I look forward to watching it grow. Who doesn't want their own English Knight? I was hoping for a little something more from the ending, but the story

While I enjoyed this book a great deal, I had a hard time buying the romance between Nathaniel and Paige. I didn’t feel their chemistry sizzled very much at all. I found the storyline to be otherwise very engaging and unique, but much of what was set up never came to any real conclusion. The ending fell flat to me, and dragged after what I had thought was building up to something big. It does feel like the first book in a series. While I understand that the first book often sets the stage for th ...more
