This was one of the most unromantic M&B's I've ever read. More like a hate story than a love story. If not for the 'I love you's' in the end, this would have been an interesting revenge drama (because I did like the writing).

This is one of those times where I have to remind the reader that the rating system on Goodreads is a reflection of whether or not I liked the book, and the ending just left me so darn cold and angry and...depressed. She deserved better. I can't see him grovelling enough if he gets down on his knees daily for the next decade.
I didn't read the synopsis before I started reading this novel, which is just as well given how misleading it was. I wasn't expecting the the male protagonist, Angelos, to be such an arrogant and presumptuous ass, or the heroine, Kat/Thea, to be so raw. It reminded me of "My Fair Lady", for about five seconds... You need conflict for there to be resolution, to which this story had an abundance.

Uggh! Such a struggle to read. The constant repeat of the same information over and over and over. I could understand a mantra, but really, you take out the constant trying to get a grip on herself crap and you might have an antaganistic short story.

At the begining of the book, the heroine Thea is dining with her boyfriend and he proposes. Thea is happy as she finally feels like she may be safe for the first time in her life. In the beginning, the way the story started out, I have to admit that I absolutely did not like this particular Presents at all. There was so much animosity, so much hatred that it transcended the pages and I, as a reader, felt the sheer loathing from the characters to the point that I could not stand the way the Hero/heroine treated each other. James is one of my go-to authors for angsty romance reads, but I have mixed feelings about From Dirt to Diamonds. On the one hand, I devoured it in one gulp, totally riveted. Its a romance novel. Thea is hoping that Giles was about to ask her to marry him. Her dream that she has worked hard for. Gets all her modeling contracts cancelled and she is forced to do menial labor jobs to survive. I had to wait until I was in the right mood to read this. It sure was a different sort of book. Steam kept coming out of my ears because she was so helpless against him. He just used his money and power to steamroller right over her. In both the past and the present she was trying so hard to better herself and he had totally no respect for her.

I am afraid to ask.
This book had an unhappy ending because the heroine and the hero ended up together. Was that not the point, you ask me? Yes, it was. But this hero is in the uber crazy league! A rabid monkey is less of a threat. Really. So why would I wan him to be happy?
And when it comes to retaliations? I think of the film Valentine's day. I am thinking he is the kind of man that would go on a killing spree 10 years later if you told him n...more

This was an intense book,Angelos-Kat/Thea hate each other,Angelos thinks Kat is a woman who will go to any lengths to gain her goal,move up in career and Kat she hates Angelos cause he detroyed her completely,through her life Kat worked hard to gain respect and become something,climb out of pit of poverty and never look black but Angelos took it from her and she was again in that pit

This book just wasn't what I had in mind when I read the description. Angelos was an ass, and Kat/Thea stuck a little too close to those convictions of hers. The beginning was drawn out, and took a while to get to the action, but even the actions wasn't that interesting. A lot of unnecessary misunderstandings. Not one of the best reads.
the heroine is a woman who has clawed her way out of poverty and despair once and knows she can do it again. the hero is an entitled rat who wants to teach the heroine a lesson she will never forget, not once, but twice, but in the end he is the one who learns
