This is book is absolutely one of my favorites. It cleverly combines a teens problems and gives them a fantasy twist, and many people will relate to Kassia, a 16 year old girl has some pretty peculiar problems. Not only is she trying to find out who she is and where she fits in with the rest of the world. She has supernatural abilities, and she isn't alone. Kassia goes to a school for gifted teens where there is everything from Psychics to Dreamers. And then there is Kassia who is a Mind Blower....more

Kassia is a mind blower (she has the power to cause severe pain and even cause death...only by using her mind). WOW! What would you do with powers like that? She doesn't know how to control her powers or her that is a bad combination to have.

Kassia attends the Glendale Institute. It is a school of gifted individuals who learns about their powers and how to use them. Kassia's friends all have different powers, and they learn to work together as a team. Miya is Kassia's best friend, t...more
I am not sure of the intended target audience of this book. It contains sexual tension, kissing, fairly graphic rape and violence so it's clearly aimed at the higher-end of the teen scale, but the dialog, scene setting and segues were superficial and immature, not to mention unrealistic.

For example, there is a girl who wears a new t-shirt with a fitting slogan for every situation, even when they are on the run and living out of a backpack each. They need to find a reclusive oracle on a mountain...more

This book wasn't bad, but it wasn't a favorite either. Keeping in mind the characters are around 16 years old, the way they acted and interacted was still too... shallow? Their personalities lacked depth.

Added to that is the way adults have almost no use or authority during the rising conflict in the story, which was treated as normal; other than providing shelter and financial support, the adults are barely tokens in this world.

Lastly, this whole story has a distinct fanfic flavor, imitating...more

I have to say that I probably never would have found this AMAZING book had the author not requested a review for it! I'm so glad that she did! I absolutely LOVED this book. It took me two days to finish this book when it usually takes me a week to finish one. That's not to say that this is a short book because it isn't! It's just SO GOOD that I couldn't put it down! I was completely enthralled from beginning to end and I can't wait to read book 2!

New authors everyday and its was pleasure to read them giving new meaning to used concepts and even adding new points to the ever increasing and fantasizing young adult fiction bases. Read on about The Ultimate Sacrifice by Talia Jager .

Here is the summary :

Within our world exists a much darker world only known to a select few. Some are identified as "gifted" and brought to a special institute where they develop their own unique talent and understanding of this world within our world. It is here...more
This book is totally something I would read. I read lots of paranormal romance. The storyline was exciting and highly enjoyable. I love the giftings of the characters and the direction the author went with this novel. It started out a little slow, but the anticipation of what was to come kept me reading. Overall it was thrilling and gripping, even to the last page.

But there was something missing (for me) that at first I couldn’t put my finger on. I nailed down two things. First… the author’s wr...more

My Rating: ★★★★☆

It’s pretty cool being a teen with a supernatural gift—that is unless you have the power to inflict pain with your mind and you can’t control it. That’s exactly the situation in which sixteen-year-old Kassia finds herself. Kassia enrolls in a special school for gifted teens and subsequently meets her new best friend, Mira, and a pretty awesome love inte...more

I give this book a three star rating. I love the author’s enthusiasm and the love she has for the world she has created but herein lies part of my problem with the book. Whilst reading the story line would build up, come to a quick conclusion and move on the next climax. The author loves her story so much she left me with the impression that she could not wait for you to read through it all.
The characters were nicely fluffed out, but the author spent loads of time on describing one of two scenar...more
I really, really loved this book. I felt like the group of characters fit so neatly together – both their powers and the way they related to each other. I liked all of the powers and the way they were used. I liked that we weren’t forced to question their powers or the way they used their powers, because all of them were so attuned to it already, except for Kassia, whose power was too dangerous to actually be practiced. I loved the different points of views – we see parts of it through Mira’s ey...more
I really enjoyed reading The Ultimate Sacrifice. Some of my favorite books has a school/campus setting. So yes this is now on my favorites list. This is about friendship and just what you will sacrifice for those you care about.

Kassia lives at the Glendale Institute, a school for the gifted. All the students here have some kind of special gift or power. There are mind readers, dreamers, compellers and ones who can see the future. Then there is Kassia, a mind blower, someone who can cause pain an...more
The story jumps right into the "gifts" of the gifted teens... most unusual of them being Kassia who is capable of staring someone to death, literally. She is surrounded by friends Mira, a compeller of thoughts and immune to Kassia's death stare; Noe who can glimpse the future; Auralee who can hear people's thoughts; Zane, who can communicate with animals and anyone of any nationality; and Daxton, who has the ability to take anyone anywhere in dreams. Spotlight goes to Kassia when evil forces rec...more

Kassia has a special gift: she can kill people with her mind. While she tries to accept the most feared gift, Kassia finds herself on the run with her close friends that are also gifted in other ways. Kassia is wanted by both good and bad as her gift can be used to kill any opponent. Kassia is left with a choice- does she want to help good or evil.

While there is a love story within the plot, I found it hard to understand. The characters meet and are instantly together. It was kind of weird. In...more

Would you give "The Ultimate Sacrifice" to protect the ones you love??

All the students at the Glendale Institute are "gifted." This story focuses on Kassia, a mind-blower, one who delivers pain with her mind and can even cause death. Her friends, Mira, Daxton, Noe, Auralee, and Zane all play equally important roles as they come together to stop an army of demons from taking over and everyone being destroyed by them and their evil leader, Kern.

Come along as Kassia learns how to perfect and contr...more

The book was surprisingly a one light and easy read, far from what I expected when I first read the summary. Nonetheless, I’m giving the author some kudos because after a few chapters, I was fixed to the book even when my eyes were strained and fluttering in drowsiness, in the dead silence of the night. Yes, I found myself saying ‘Okay, another 30 minutes then I’ll go to sleep’.

The plot was truly simple and easy to digest, there’s absolutely nothing complicated about it. It chronicles a story ab...more
I enjoyed this book. It was different. It was about teens with powers. Some can read minds, some are dreamers who can take people into dream places, and others like our main character Kassia, some who can kill people with there minds. This book is all about friendship. How the characters are all friends and they would die for one another. And in this story the Kassia sacrificed herself for her friends. But what they don't know is she has angel blood in her veins so she didn't actually die but sh...more

I'm sick of hearing about vampires and werewolves. Now, the thing is zombies. But, I'll admit it, I have a soft spot for heroines with superpowers (I may be biased), which is Jager's fresh take on the young adult paranormal genre in "The Ultimate Sacrifice". This book struck me at the core and I don't usually read YA. It's intense nearly from beginning and all the way to the end. It is hard, fast, and brought tears to my eyes several times. Her protagonist, Kassia, is infinitely likeable, partic...more
This was quite a blah book. The story was a good idea, but I was thrown off when demons and faeries were introduced. The story was very straight forward and there was nothing in it to get me excited; it was very predictable.

this book had me hooked from the beginning I loved it I most definitely say I will be reading every book in the series. it takes a lot for a book to hook me and this deserves this rating

I liked it. A much more believable story than most current ya fantasies. The romance in the story was realistic instead of over the top like so many ya books seem to favor
Out of the recent free kindle books I have read, this one by far has been my favorite. Kassia is a gifted teen with a very hard gift to live with. She can cause a person pain with her mind. She even has the potential to kill people. Kassia hates her gift but loves her friends who makes sure she is okay and doesn't hurt anyone. Her best friend Mira is the only person immune to her gift, so Mira helps Kassia stay in control as much as possible. There are forces of evil who would love to get there...more
I read half of this book then it just got really boring... waste of my time.
I loved this book it really makes the saying 'if looks could kill' come to life

The Ultimate Sacrifice by Talia Jager

All I can say! As soon as a start reading it, I could not put the book down. This book showed a lot of love, dedication, and loyalty. It was a page tuner. I have not read that fast in a while. I laugh and got teary eyed. The author has a great why of capturing the readers attention. I almost felt like I was there with the characters in the action scenes. I just hope there is a squeal to this one. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

I wanted to like this book, but I had to force myself to keep reading. Honestly, I thought I was reading something written by a teenager. I was very surprised to find she is grown with children! I'd read some of the other reviews, so I thought it would be at least an emotionally engaging book, but not for me. I wasn't even tempted to cry. Sorry. It was just too cheesy, and again, sounded like the stories my girlfriends and I would write back in high school.

This book was pretty good. It had romance and Action. The friendship in this book is amazing. I really enjoyed reading about the main character. I love how everyone in the book has a power so that it dosent make the main character sound too special but she is still special because of what she can do.
If you love action and Just a little bit of romance this is the book for you.

I think this book is for YA but im 33 and I really enjoyed it, It had romance, friendship and supernatural by the bucket load, It was sad and I really felt for the characters. I have now purchased the second in the series and away to read it. If you like a well written story and enjoy a YA supernatural book every now and again, try this one cause it was great.
I had to download this book after seeing it's author interviewed on a blog I frequent- I'm so glad that I did! I got so caught up in seeing how the book ended that I read it in one day. (pretty much couldn't go to sleep until I had finished it.) I'll be looking forward to reading more from Talia Jager.
