This crocodile fable/storyline is not one of Lionni's best. The message is basically - don't be afraid to be different. The way it is presented is not very compelling though. When you get to the end, the story's repeated phrase, "So what?", applies to the book itself. The pictures are nice though.

Cornelius is a crocodile like no other, he walks upright and he goes out into the world to discover. He meets a monkey and ask him to teach him how to hang himself from his tail. The other crocodiles seem to ignore him, but Cornelius goes on later to learn that all the other crocodiles want to do the same.
Cornelius is a wonderful character with its own unique personality, I thought he was great! I think this is a great story about the need for little people to learn how to "marc More...

Life on the riverbeach would never be the same again.

This book made me smile. I especially liked the ending; while it wasn't the most satisfying, it did leave the reader smirking and wondering what Cornelius would do next. I enjoyed the pictures and the main character, he was especially likable. I would recommend.

A cute and funny story, but sort of fluffy. The kids smiled at the silliness of crocodiles trying to stand on their heads. But it didn't really 'teach' anything and I'm all about finding books that teach.
Worth at least one read. Much better than some of the junk out there.
