This was a wonderful book aout the Baxter family all finally learning about Dayne. Ashely pressed her father to tell the others and make contact with the son. No one had any idea that their was another Baxter sibling and boy were they shocked when it turned out to be Dayne Matthews, America's hottest actor. Dayne was getting fed up with Hollywood and finally decieded his life was in Bloomington with Katy. He was making trips to be with her once a month during filming. He was having breakfast wit...more
In my review of Family, the penultimate book in Karen Kingsbury's Firstborn pentalogy, I said: "I've said this in previous reviews, but it also applies to this book: If you liked the previous tales of the Baxter family, you'll most likely enjoy this one...but if you didn't care for the prior installments, then don't even bother with "Family". That statement alone probably tells you whether or not this is for you." The same applies to Forever the series' finale. I must also say that the ending se...more
FOREVER . . . finally! I loved the characters, I loved the drama, and I loved the storyline. But, I didn’t love the long drawn out series. Of course, we all knew how the series would end, but it truly became a quest to get to the end. One of the issues I had with this series is the constant rehashing of past circumstances and trials. I understand the need as a writer to want each book to be a standalone novel, but let’s face it . . . if the series is five strong, people need to read the whole se...more
What a beautiful book! Unfortunately I started at the end of the series (actually the end of 2 series') because I needed the title to complete a task for the Summer Reading Challenge. However, all that did was fuel my desire to read the entire Firstborn Series, and the Redemption Series first. I thought that even as a stand alone this was a beautiful story of hope and forgiveness. There were a few parts in the beginning where I felt a bit lost because of hints to past books, but as the story unf...more
The last of the series. By this time I am certain that the Baxters, Dayne Matthews and Katy Hart are real people. I almost want to pray for them as I watched the rest of the story unfold in this book and the family came together despite terrible odds.
Lots of healing took place among the characters, jealousy, physical healing and family contentions.
The only thing is that I wish I could live in the house that was restored by the Lake by the whole community.

It is a good conclusion to the series although leaves a lot left for other series. There is a lot of relationship healing and love displayed. I love when the town pulls together.
It moves slowly in some places but includes the emotional allure that all of her other books have. The struggles are real although I do not always agree with they way they are handled especially the faith without works theme.
I am inspired by reading them.

Whew wow so finnaly finished the Firstborn series and i have to confess not my favorite series of Kingsbury. Dayne and Katy were okay but Ashley and Landon and Kari and Ryan are still my favorite couples. Hmmm Forever was still very amazing the Spoiler!!! accident was terrible i didn't know if dayne was going to make it. end of Spoiler!!! everything that you want to happen pretty much comes to completion not my fav series but my favorite book out of the series
As has been the case for each of the books about the Baxters thus far, I found it nearly impossible to put the book down before the end. As the characters again dealt with tragedy and waiting, the themes of forgiveness, redemption and second chances shone through. Above all, I see the importance of God and family to make sense of crazy lives. I thoroughly enjoy all of Karen Kingsbury's books.
I enjoyed the Redemption series very much, and felt it was complete in itself. I just can't bring myself to care about Dayne and Katy the way I invested in the original Baxter family. I picked this volume up solely for the Bailey/Cody storyline, and that's all I read (in preperation for the Bailey Flanigan series). I enjoyed those characters and their budding romance very much.
Didn't make me cry, but I got teary once. A really cute story, minor mistakes in prose. A good read. I can't help disliking Bailey's scenario with all these guys. It's ridiculous. Very, VERY few guys are even close to the maturity of all her love interests. She has what, 5 after her? All of them golden, sweet, perfect guys? Completely unrealistic. Especially with the dedication they show her. This is turning into a rant. Anyway, a thoroughly entertaining and heart-warming read. Recommended for g...more
Oh Dayne! What a ride. I'm glad she picked up more on Luke's character, I missed him. I feel like this family is so pron to accidents :) but somehow they always pull through. Katy is such a strong character. She was so full of love and patience, especially toward Dayne, when I felt like slapping him! Ashley is my favorite though! She is always thinking of others and I believe that's why her marriage and family life seems so blissful.
Love Karen Kingsbury! Everything she writes touches my heart. There's always love and family issues that need resolution. God is always the center of that resolution. She has a way of sharing scripture that brings it to a new light for me. I just plain feel good when I read her books. They are an easy read...a curl up in your favorite chair and just enjoy!
As a survivor of a brain injury, I am giving this one a lower rating. It takes years to fully heal and pushing hard only makes things worse. I know this from my own experience, 2 years of research, and countless communications with others who have lived through a brain injury. I had people praying for me too - it just doesn`t go the way of the book.
as with all of her books, there was a message of forgivness, and love and family. last one of the series, I was sad to read it, but the good news is shes got another series behind it, and the baxters are included of course, so the series is continuing. i love it when i have a book, that keeps on going forever, when you read a book and you fall totally and completely in love with the characters its so hard to say goodbye.

Can't believe the series is over. I'm always a little sad when I have finished the last book. But, she has another series, the sunrise series that ties into this one. I already have the requested from the library.
I am so sad that the Firstborn series had to end! I know that Dayne and Katie live on in the Sunrise series, but I just do not think it will be the same with the focus shifting. This is probably one of my all-time favorite book series. I have enjoyed it so much and I would highly recommend it to anyone, and I do mean anyone!
I loved this whole series, maybe even more than the previous one about the Baxters. It is probably because it is about an issue close to my heart......adoption. I do not think every adopted child seeks for a relationship with their birth family as the main character in these books does, but I do think most adopted children long for the chance to give their birth families some peace, to let them know that they had good lives. It was a well written series.
Okay I'm glad that I have finished the series because now I can get back to normal life. Every free minute I had I would pick these books up and read it...even though I didn't like this series as much as the one that came before it. But Karen Kingsbury is a good writer of fiction. She does well to draw the reader in...but I am also a sucker for a good relationship/love, friendship, family kind of book. It still challenged me in parts with how they worked through their relationships (with scriptu...more
