This is the story of a young jewish girl who never saw the inside of a concentration camp. It is the remarkable story of how there were many people willing to risk their own safety to do what was right. Highlighted is the town of Moissac in France where all the citizens are conspirators and know of the 100 or so children that live in a house run by Shatta and Simon Bouli, who must be angels in heaven now. Many would think how lucky these children were to have escaped the brunt of the war and in ...more
Summary: Hiding Edith is the true story of Edith Shwalb, a young Jewish girl persecuted during the Holocaust. The twist in this novel is that Edith, unlike so many other Jewish children, has managed to escape life in a concentration camp by living a secreted, hidden existence.
Review: Simple and clear writing. Fluid transitions from past to present. Excellent choice for Holocaust studies. The modern alternative to the "Diary of Anne Frank."

This is a Holocaust story, but in a different setting. Edith is a Jewish child who is sent to France to escape the destruction. This is a true story of her life during WWII; the leaving of her family, the making of friends, the constant moving, and the knowledge that there were people who were willing to help the Jewish children.
TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love historical books, and this is definitely one of the best historical books ever. The fact that it's a true story makes it even better. I loved hearing that an entire town worked together to keep the Jewish children safe. It's truly amazing!

Edith visited our school and talked to the kids about her experiences during WW2 - word has it the book is VERY good. I know several of the kids were very taken with it.
To recognize that an entire town could hold a secret this great was amazing to me especially living in a small community where secrets are hardly kept! How fortunate these children were to find the caretakers they did.
this was an amazing book i really think you should read it!
she is a young girl named Edith trying to survive World War Two.
she is a young girl named Edith trying to survive World War Two.
This book is the story of a young Jewish girl who is sent to a school for Jewish children in WWII. The interesting part about the school is that the children are hiding in plain sight. The story is heart wrenching as all tales from this era are. But it would be an appropriate book for children.
Nice book to introduce young readers to the holocaust. Nothing new but simple, touching and honest.

The people of a small village in France during WWII maintain a school that secretly protects young Jewish girls who otherwise would have been sent to concentraton camps where they would probably have died. This is the story of one girl who survives the war and the two women who operated the school. Great tribute to brave people in the small village of Moissac France, who risked their own safety for the benefit of others. Shows that humanity and bravery can exist alongside the evils of war.
This is an amazing book about a young girl who is hidden during the war.
This factual tale is inspring and a great read. You cannot put it down! Although it is non-fiction it has a fantastic plot and story line. The war led by Hitler was a sad war. But the outcomes were not ALL bad. New friendships and possibly love might find Edith in this epic journey.
