This is book two of the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series and, in my opinion, felt much more like romantic suspense than the first book, and that made me very happy.

Trace Rivers has every reason to be angry, and he’d made it his life’s mission to bring down organizations like the one that kidnapped his sister, Alani. She was taken by human traffickers and ended up in Tijuana where in book one of the series, When You Dare, she was rescued by Dare Macintosh, a friend and colleague of Trace’s....more

The second book in the Men Who Walk On The Edge of Honor by Lori Foster. Another good read with some hunky heroes. Trace Rivers, the hero, was wonderful and drool worthy. I wasn't as fond of Priss, the heroine, though. I thought she was borderline TSTL and just didn't like her in-your-face attitude. But I am able to overlook her because of Trace. **sigh** Anyway, the story was fast paced and entertaining.

I am re-reading this series as have just got #4 in the series(ARC from NetGalley)and wanted to refresh my memory of all the characters and story lines.

I am re-reading this series as have just got #4 in the series(ARC from NetGalley)and wanted to refresh my memory of all the characters and story lines.

Back in July I really liked Trace and my opinion hasn't changed, he is definately one of the good guys, a sexy one at that ☺. I was a little unsure of Priss at that time and to be honest that opinion hasn't changed much. In some respects I am trying to work out if she was really brave or just stupid! She went into the situation seeking revenge and intended to kill the big boss man of a human trafficking ring who incedently may be her father but she is unsure. Now you would expect that with that agenda she would be up to the job and be an excellant one woman warrior but no, our Priss had only attended a defense course which of course only cemented the idea that she must be just plain stupid. How on earth did she expect to get away with it and walk out alive. Don't get me wrong I like the h's to be strong and independant but I do expect them to have the ability to back up their actions! She went on to further compound that stupidity by refusing to let go and walk away even when she realised that Trace was undercover and he was in fact one of the good guys.

There was definately more RS in this story which I had been complaining that was missing in Dare & Molly's story but I felt this one lacked a bit of the romance. I know I seem hard to please and am being picky but there really wasn't a lot of romance going on between the two of them. After they managed to kill the boss man and Trace mopped up that branch of the trafficking ring they do get together and Trace then romances Priss and gives her all the 'firsts' she missed out on growing up but we don't get to read all that as Ms Foster forwards us on a couple of months and the only way we know this went on is because we were told during their declaration of love for each other and Trace's proposal.....On the good side we did get to read about that.

Despite all that I did enjoy the book and thought it deserved the 4 stars but maybe if Priss had been different it would have rated a 5 star

Trace of Fever was an outstanding read, though I enjoyed When you Dare more, this is not a novel to miss!
I especially loved the character of Trace. We original met him in When you Dare and his take charge attitude and protectiveness of his sister captured my heart. Other characters from the first novel play a big role in Trace of Fever as well and I love when authors bring back past characters that we love and they play integral parts in the continuation of the series.
I had a hard time however getting into the heroine, Priscilla. I usually enjoy the snarky leading ladies but Priss' whole attitude just turned me off, though not surprising, the plot and hero more then made up for what I found lacking in the heroine and I was riveted to every page.
The story moved at a quick and even pace, the plot was even more interesting then in When you Dare! Foster threw in several twists and turns that I was not expecting and kept me on the edge of my seat, and the dialogue between all of the characters was witty and entertaining, I especially loved the escape scene in the shower with a certain cowboy-hat-wearing-hunk.

Priss definitely brings the alpha male out in Trace and he becomes very possessive which is uber sexy and he is completely open with his feelings, and that adds to his already vast appeal. Pris is also smart, independent and capable but had a cloistered upbringing. She had a well thought out plan for revenge and didn’t vary from it, even at times were she should of, much to Trace’s dismay. This was both admirable and frustrating and illustrates Foster's superb writing skills in making you feel these two emotions at the same time. The villains are just as well written and really made my skin crawl, this is definitely a darker novel then the first.

All in all; a great, well written romantic suspense that I recommend. I cannot wait for Savor the Danger, Jackson’s story. I loved his smart-ass, out-spoken attitude in Trace of Fever and I am looking forward to seeing a lot more of him! And don’t you just love the covers for this series?!?! *drool*(less)

In the series thus far, Lori Foster has introduced us to a cast of wonderful characters who fight against these human trafficking rings and truly despicable characters who engage in trafficking women.

We first meet Trace Rivers (a.k.a. Trace Miller) in When You Dare after his sister is rescued from the human traffickers by Dare McIntosh. Essentially, due to the trauma his sister went through Trace is driven by his need to rid the world of the bad guy douchebags who sell women to the highest bidder and he goes undercover and infiltrates a sex trade organization. There he meets Priscilla, a young woman claiming to be the daughter of Murray Coburn (Trace’s big boss).

Priscilla is quite the conundrum as a heroine. At times she seemed impossibly naïve and virginal while at others she was smart, sassy, and quite adept at portraying a clueless twit when dealing with Murray. She often defied any logic or rationality and made some stupid decisions. While I liked Pris, I didn’t love her. She starts out as if she may be as this tough woman. She is undercover herself wanting to take down the man who abused her mother. Perhaps Foster was attempting to have Pris come off as somewhat vulnerable as well, given her past, but I never bought her tough girl persona. I was hoping for more from her character. Unlike Priscilla, I loved Trace who was absolutely yummalicious! Trace is our alpha male who has a body of sin, the skills to keep anyone safe, the smarts to put more than two and two together, yet is still a good guy, not a womanizer.

The romance between Trace and Pris was pretty steamy although, I wanted more. They did have some great chemistry; however, at times I felt like the romance between the two was too fast and superficial. I was happy to see them get their HEA.

Overall, Trace of Fever is a great read. I will most definitely be continuing on with this series.(less)

The book introduces a new female character Priscilla Patterson, or Priss. I have read other reviews of this book and it appears some reviewers did not care for Priss – I disagree, I liked her. Priss had an extremely sheltered background, she was raised to live in fear and as a result was not exposed to society in general. The choices Priscilla makes are consistent with how she was raised and the situations that the hero puts her in. Ms. Foster writes the heroine as a woman who is struggling with her past and trying to reconcile what she learned growing up with what has become her current reality. She encounters a man – the hero (Trace!) who does not really want to help Priscilla accomplish her goals but is thrown in with her lot and they have to struggle on together. There is some interesting encounters and struggles between the two main characters – Trace and Priscilla. Trace is a man who walks the edge of honor, so his choices are not always the ones that Priscilla would want. In the end, I found Priscilla likeable, the tension between Trace and Priscilla very real, and their romance (no surprise here!) enjoyable. Trace is an interesting hero and worthy of a book focused on him, I think ultimately that I liked Dare more than Trace, but reading about Trace was enjoyable.

Readers get to see Dare, Molly, and Chris from the first book When You Dare. I enjoyed When You Dare a little bit more than Trace of Fever, however both are great books, filled with good character development and an interesting story line. If you enjoy romantic suspense, contemporary romance or Lori Foster I think you will like this book.

This book was chest-tastick: from the gorgeous hunk of man on the front cover (note his chest and abs) to the description of Trace’s muscular hairy chest…just enough and pointing the treasure trail downwards!

Trace was forced to watch from the side lines in ‘When You Dare’ (5 Hoots, buy it next month you will love it). But now, he is hell bent to rid Ohio and the hopefully the US of flesh peddlers. Wow, this one really didn't measure up to the first in the series for me. Trace was great, and all an alpha male should be, but the heroine in this book drove me bananas.

Priss (BARF!) was cloistered by her mother and kept away from the world up until the mom died three months ago. For the most part, I've enjoyed Foster's 'Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor' series (which I've read out of order), but this book was not the bright spot in the bunch. Trace and Priss just really weren't that likable from page 1, Trace was a dick and Priss was just plain ridiculous - and unfortunately, they didn't really improve as the story progressed.

While I found the bad guys so totally vile i wanted to puke, the chemistry between Trace and Priss was explosive. She's not as TSTL as Molly was in the first book, but pretty close. Then again, sometimes bravery is mixed with stupidity, otherwise people wouldn't willingly go into the danger, knowing that the situation isn't the smartest move one could make.

As it was an audiobook, the names Chris and Priss sometimes got garbled and misunderstood, causing me to have to re-listen to a few spots where the characters were in the same location.

The thing I do have a slight issue with is something really silly, but it does irritate me just a little. I know the titles in this series are based on the name of the male protagonist. However, who names their kid "Dare" and who names their kid "Trace"? I'm sorry, but that's just asking for your kid to be teased. Not only that, but no one finds these names to be abnormal. I kept wondering if his name was really Tracey or something. The nickname "Priss" is godawful. What about "Silla"? She did some really silly things so it may work better for her. Alice was the one wild card, I kept waiting to see if there would be an unexpected twist with that character and that she wasn't what she seemed. Maybe because I read so many mystery novels, I'm always wondering about that ending and if I can be stumped. Since this is romantic suspense, I get to feed my love of mystery and my much needed HEA. I know some people might poo-poo the genre, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I finished this one in record time and started the third book.

Oh, I found this book to be a little more funny than the first one. Some of the situations and dialogue had me laughing out loud. There weren't as many sex scenes but the ones they did have were on fire! I enjoyed the reunion with the other characters from this series and their growing as a "family".

นอกจากนี้แล้ว เจ้าแผนการของเทรซที่แทรกซึมเข้าไปทำงานให้กับเมอร์เรย์ก็ดูไร้จุดหมาย ในเรื่องไม่มีการพูดถึงว่า เทรซจะทำอะไรต่อไป เขาเข้าไปทำไม ถ้าคำตอบสุดท้ายของเขาก็คือ การฆ่าเมอร์เรย์ ทำไมถึงไม่ฆ่าตั้งแต่แรกล่ะ ในเมื่อ (สปอยล์) สุดท้ายเรื่องเมอร์เรย์ก็ตาย และเทรซก็ไม่เห็นจะทำอะไรเลยสักอย่าง

Trace of Fever what is there to say about this book? Well first of all it was a very pleasing book, but it wasn’t any great work that I would read again. The females name is some long name but is shortened to Priss which I know, but when I think of that name I don’t think of head strong women who are usually in these types of book, that is beside the point. Normally I'm a big fan of Lori Foster, but I just didn't enjoy this book as much as I have others. Maybe it's the subject matter - human/sex trafficking - which makes me sick to my stomach. Maybe it's the fact that I just don't sympathize much with the heroine. Her background is so extreme, so maybe that justifies her simplistic view of the world, but many of her choices came across as stupid and selfish, rather than brave. That kind of recklessness deserves a red shirt, in my opinion.

After reading the first book in the series, When You Dare, I thought there was no way I would ever read another book in the series. Plot holes, unexplained events, random characters coming and going, but most of all - the heroine was a doormat and the hero was an ass. Then I read the introductory short story in the anthology The Guy Next Door and some of the plot holes, unexplained events, and random characters were explained. Suddenly it made more sense. Murray Coburn was a scumbag who had become incredibly wealthy from selling women into sexual slavery. He was a sociopath--absolutely no conscience about what he was doing. In fact, he enjoyed the exercise of criminal power he exercised over his "shipments" as well as those to whom he sold these women. Trace Rivers was undercover as Trace Miller, his number one bodyguard, mean, heartless, ready to hurt, disable, kill or otherwise hurt without a moment's hesitation. That all these people were criminals who needed to be put out of commission made it easy for Trace. What wasn't easy was fulfilling his mission to destroy Murray when the so-called daughter, Priscilla Patterson, came on the scene.

Priscilla was an interesting heroine. At times she seemed impossibly naive while at others she was brainy, sassy, wiley, and quite adept at portraying a clueless twit when dealing with Murray. That her life and her ultimate welfare was seriously in danger didn't seem to enter in. She was there to kill Murray, a man who had abducted her mother 25 years earlier, and who had so terrorized the woman that she lived in fear and dread until the end of her life. Now Priss was out for blood. She had been forced, by her mother's fear, to live in such a way that she really didn't experience much of life growing up. Now she wanted to feel the arms of a strong man around her, wanted to be wanted as a woman, even if it was only for this brief time. She wanted Trace to be her first. Priss was one of those "baby doll" kinds of women on the surface, but there was lots going on underneath all the seeming innocence and naivete. I found her character quite compelling.

Trace was out for blood, too, as a professional mercenary who had set his heart on destroying the kinds of men who had abducted and almost sold his sister into sexual slavery. Priss was an unexpected complication as he now not only had to find a way to accomplish his own objectives but he now had to protect Priss from herself as well as Murray. Factor in Helene, Murray's current squeeze, who was a chemist and a truly evil woman who wanted to destroy Priss as potential competition and to have her way with Trace who had rebuffed all her advances so far. Trace was one of those guys that was beautiful to look at but you just didn't want to have him as an enemy. He was prepared, both mentally and physically, to meet incredible challenges, and he was the kind of guy we all want to have on our side in a fight. Priss certainly couldn't keep her heart from pounding when she was with him. And Trace knew that his own attraction put both of them in danger.

This is a wonderful read, especially with the mix of romance and suspense. It is the kind of book that kept me on the edge of my chair from the first page onward. Each character was unique and played an important role in filling out the story. Again, Matt and Chris added in the humor and together with Dare and Molly, filled in the back story. While this is a stand alone novel, it is even better if the reader has read the first novel. I was sorry when the book came to an end. I know this will be a real "wow" for Lori Foster fans, and for those who have not read any of her previous work, you can't go wrong with this book.

I give this novel a rating of 4.75 out of 5.

This is my second Lori Foster book and I wasn't sure if it could impress me as much as When You Dare so I went in without many expectations. I was surprised that I did enjoy this book almost as much as When You Dare. I loved Trace. He was your typical alpha male, sexy, full of testosterone but still with the soft, caring side that he shows in the way he spoils his baby sister and protects those who need that protection. He played the part of the undercover operative perfectly and I loved seeing him in action. Murray was the perfect slimy, bad guy that you will love to hate. He made my skin crawl just reading about his escapades and behavior towards Pris even knowing that there is a chance she's his daughter. I have to say one of the best parts of this book (besides Trace!) is that we see Chris, Dare's assistant, again. I said it before and I'll say it again. I love Chris! He's so hilarious, good looking and sounds like so much fun. Pretty sounds like the perfect BFF.

The main downside for me and what kept me from saying 5 stars is Priss. I couldn't quite wrap my head around who she really was supposed to be. First she comes off as this kick ass, ultra observant woman who can hold her own in regards to physical defense, brains, weapons and secret operations. Then she turns into this naive but still mouthy innocent who seems to make the dumbest moves you can imagine and has to rely on Trace to save her. Then next thing you know she's back to being miss la femme Nikita again. It was almost like watching two different characters and it made it really hard for me to like her. I would love a strong, smart kick butt heroine and I can get the naive, running into danger and needing to be rescued damsel but it just rubs me the wrong way when you have a female character who is supposed to be smart and strong doing such dumb things.

Despite Priss I still really liked this book and now am eagerly waiting for the next book that tells Trace's sister, Alani's story.(less)

First of all, is Trace Rivers not an awesome character name?

Second of all, HOLY STEAMY BOOK! I am going to start this review by admitting that this isn’t my normal comfort zone genre. I work a job where fatal car accidents and shootings are the norm, so I normally pick up the light and fluffy for evening reads. I’ve been trying to expand myself with my reading, a mystery here and there, a love story thrown in. I agreed to read this book because I thought Trace sounded like an awesome, very chivalrous character. I got soooo much more than I expected!

I didn’t know until I got to page 15 that there was a little heat in the book. I am not going to lie, when I was reading this book, there were some times when I blushed, especially doing some lunch room reading. Now I’m not saying this book is raunchy and explicit. It’s just a little more than I expected. There are some nakey scenes, but they are written tastefully.

I really liked Foster’s characters in this book. Trace, of course, is a hot ball of tough man fire. Priss isn’t too shy herself, although that’s how she portrays herself in front of her possible “daddy.” But Trace has an entourage of buddies that are all buffer than the next. Shoo wee!

I always have a hard time turning down books when authors/publishers contact me to read them. The majority of the books I get this way are out of my normal comfort reading zone, but it’s the best way for me to expand. Although this book isn’t one I would have picked up off the shelves, I think I have found a new author to start collecting their books. I don’t know if I’m ready to jump into the genre head first, but I will definitely read more of Foster’s books. Especially if the leading men are all like Trace. I love that this book is proof that just giving other genres a chance can really surprise you!

I give Trace of Fever four bookmarks.

This is the second in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series. I had hoped to read the first book before this one, but vacation, work and mail (curse the mail lag) got in the way. Trace of Fever stood alone great by itself but I still want to read the first one

Trace of Fever is the second book in this wonderful alpha male trilogy. And what a great addition to the series.

Trace is one of the "operatives" that work with Dare (from When You Dare) and is on a mission to rid the world of human traffickers. This book is ridiculously easy to fall into. I started reading, got sucked in, and came up for air half way through the book and I didn't even realize it. I loved the theme surrounding this book, I don't think human trafficking gets nearly enough attention it needs to get. It is a large problem all over the world and I wish there was more normal people could do to combat it. Until then...we have Trace.

Trace - a lot of Alpha goodness wrapped in a tense package. Priss makes his eye twitch, which, for some reason, just cracks me up! Trace is determined to stop Murray from selling young women into a life of sex slavery. Then Priss sashays into the picture, throwing curveball after curveball into his well laid plans. He can't quite figure out which parts of Priss are real, and which are affects of the role she is playing to get close to Murray. He is deeply drawn to her, whatever the truth of her character may be. He is so fiercely protective and possesive of her...comically so. Trace is just thrown by Priss, and it is so much fun to watch!

Priss - Ah, Priss...she is one of a kind. On the one hand, innocent. On the other hand, tough as nails. I love that she had a plan to take down Murray herself, and did the work to make the plan come to fruition. She thinks on her feet, and appears to have a real talent for lying. Thanks to Murray's treatment of her mother, she had a pretty isolated childhood. She never dated or went to school. She eeks out a living as the owner of an adult store, and has pretty much dedicated her life to taking Murray out. She is a take no prisoners type of girl, and I just adored her.

Impressions - Trace and Priss together...wow. Talk about your wrong place/wrong time scenarios. They are both bent on bringing the oh, so sociopathic Murray's "business" to a crashing halt, yet they are so drawn to each other. They are like magnets attracting metal. The build up to the hawt sex is incredible, lots of tension, so delicious. No one writes tension like Lori Foster when she is on a roll, and she is completely on a roll with Trace of Fever.

Jackson - The lead in the next book, Savor the Danger, plays a key role in this book. Jackson does not have a filter on his mouth at all, which makes him pretty entertaining.

Dare, Molly, Chris and "the girls" from When You Dare make several appearances, which is great. We are introduced to Matt, a hairdresser who makes Priss over, and inexplicably makes Trace crazy every time Matt gets near Priss. Even Trace knows it's irrational, but he can't seem to help himself.

What worked for me - Almost everything. Trace is a terrific hero who is driven about out of his mind by Priss, who seems determined to wreak havoc with his plans and his heart. Priss is just wide open fun as a heroine. I honestly don't think I have ever met one quite like her. Murray and his appropriately named girlfriend, Hell, are creepy beyond description. Jackson is a hoot, so looking forward to his story. Loved seeing the gang fron WYD again, as I heart Chris in a major way. The story moved along well, I was vastly entertained by the humor,I was never bored.

What didn't work for me - With all of the over the top attention to secrecy and security by Trace and Dare, I thought they let Priss in on too much information too easily. Other than that, I was completely on board with the story.

I really like Lori Foster's writing style. You feel like her characters are old friends, people with whom you would want to have coffee or lunch. Her voice is imminently approachable. She is one of my comfort read authors. I enjoyed Trace of Fever, and especially Priss. (less)

I didn’t feel like I couldn’t catch on to the main story starting with book two, in fact, I understand what happened in book one and I’m dying to get my hands on it to read it now. Kudos to Ms. Foster for creating such memorable in-depth characters in this series!

Now on to the review part...Fireworks, fireworks, and more fireworks. I seriously feel like I just got off an exhilarating roller coaster ride from cover to cover. When I figured out what Trace was up to and how the smuggling operation was personal to him, I was in his corner (and that was before he was described, in great detail). Then, Priss entered the picture and it was great watching her turn his world upside down. She is a total enigma to him – he just cannot figure her out. She knows he’s not who he appears to be but he won’t share anything with her, except playful banter, direct orders, and strip searching...sizzling scene alert!

As these two continually play cat and mouse, larger evil lurks in the form of the head of the smuggling operation and his major evil assistant, Helene (nicknamed Hell, very appropriate). Both Trace and Priss have their own agenda and reasons for wanting to take down the head of the operation but Trace also wants the henchmen and anyone else involved. He tries over and over to get Priss to stay out of harm’s way but she absolutely refuses time and time again. Trace has some very competent buddies that help him out in a jam which leads to more fun scenes and laughter, even in the face of danger. Enter a cat the size of a dog, a hairdresser who has to be kept in the dark from the truth, and a pink cell phone stun gun and the action is on!

While several scenes are funny, touching, or incredibly hot, the level of suspense never dies down and Ms. Foster does justice by bringing awareness to a truly horrific aspect of the criminal world. This is a definite read for those readers that like lots of action and lots of sparks between the characters!

Advice: READ it in your most comfortable chair and enjoy!!!

What I liked about this book was getting to know more about Trace, taking myself into what it would be like to truly be a bad ass and be able to run an operation like he and Dare have. I love suspense and alpha male characters. Trace is one of those fictional, and I’m sure very rare in real life men, who have the body of sin, the skills to keep anyone safe, the smarts to put more than two and two together, yet is still a good guy, not a womanizer. I truly would love for these guys to be real and hang out with them. Actually, I’d like to be trained by them. I secretly want to be a bad ass alpha female. ;D

Which brings me to what I didn’t like, Prissy. She starts out as if she may be as tough as Trace in a female body. She is undercover herself, gives clues in her inner monologues of not fighting too much with the bodyguards as not to ‘give herself away’, meaning she has skills, right? Nope. Self-defense classes against the kind of men she was up against just won’t cut it and jabs to the ribs or a punch to the eye…I wanted more from her. I think she was meant to come across as somewhat vulnerable too, given her past, but I never bought her tough girl persona. I was hoping for more from her character. The book does mention she is in over her head a few times, but Prissy never seemed to 'get' that, which annoyed me a bit. In the end she’s OK and I do like her with Trace, but I really felt set up for a bad ass chick with her.

Overall though, the book is a great read. The suspense is there, the action scenes are great, and Trace of Fever introduces us to a new co-worker with Dare and Trace, a gorgeous man named Jackson Savor who comes across as more raw man than the others to me. Holy Cow am I interested to get to know Jackson! You get a sneak peek as to who will be his love interest in this book. You’ll like her. Readers of this series have met her already, but that’s all I’m saying. :D(less)
