Review @ Under the Covers

2012 reread- Still just as cheesy as I remember, and still just as amazing. This is a book you read when you want to laugh and enjoy yourself with something a little bit silly...LOVE IT!

I don't know what attracted me to this book, but for some reason I really really wanted to read it and I am so glad that I caved when I saw it was only £2.00 at the Kindle shop. Three words best describe this book:

HIGHLANDERS IN SPACE

That's right alien Highlander, that is what the hero re...more

3.5-4 stars. After a string of betas, Lorgin was a little much with his whole "you are mine, let me take what is mine" alpha shtick. Once I adjusted to the new norm, I grew to like him and his intensity quite a bit. He's a man of actions, not words, and he's very pro-active in seducing Deana to convince her she belongs by his side. I absolutely loved the scene towards the end when he verbalizes his feelings for her. Deana was decently likable, too, and she had fairly realistic reactions to the w...more

This is one of those books I have reread until I ended up buying another copy!
Lorgin is a Charl Knight trying to track down the source of some time stream troubles and ends up on Deanna's doorstep. She thinks he's just some wacko her friends sent as she is planning to go to a sci/fi convention. Lorgin won't let her out of his sight, so she drags the sexy alien along to the convention. Scenes from Lorgin at the convention are wet-your-pants hilarious and scenes from Lorgin and Deana making love a...more

The first book in Dara Joy's Knight of a Trillion Stars series. I've never read this author before and had no idea what to expect. I actually liked this book. It was humorous and steamy and kept a good pace so I didn't get bored.

Way too easy to mock this is. This cheesy paranormal romance features an alien, a "Knight of the Charl" complete with light saber, who pops into the life of an aspiring science-fiction writer, Deana Jones. (Probably not a good sign when the book's protagonist has a name so reminiscent of the author.)

So, tell me. You find a strange man in your house and you're alone. Do you: a) Scream and run out of the house to your car. b) Grab the phone and call the police. c) Check out how hot he is with his...more

Don't be put off by the Fabio like cover. This story isn't as bad as the cover. This is my first Dara Joy book. Knight of a Trillion Stars is funny and romantic, but also quite predictable like many others in the genre. I couldn't relate much to this heroine. She's a modern very beautiful woman but her knowledge of intimate matters is quite Victorian. I found that kind of detail hard to get past. It's one thing if this book were set a hundred years ago, but Deana lives in the 21st century where,...more

Summary: Deana is having a terrible day. She got fired from her job, sat in something smelly on the train on the way home, got detained getting home due to the weather, and then found a gorgeous alien man sitting in her living room. Lorgin’s reason for being in her home is a mystery, but he refuses to leave her side. Later, while Deana and Lorgin are at a Science Fiction convention in San Francisco, Lorgin sees that Deana is wearing a torque necklace from his world. He immediately performs a bri...more

I have to say this book is one of my favorites. I read it when it first came out in paperback and my copy is so dog-eared that I had to buy another. There are only a handful of books that I have ever re-read in my life and this one makes the list. It is a fun, thrilling, romantic epic that spans time, galaxies, & dimensions. There are parts where the author is a bit tongue-in cheek with her writing that will make you laugh. It is more of a lightly comedic than funny throughout. There is just...more

One might ask, why two stars? I have to be honest here. The storyline was OK. She wrote in a new twist on lightsabers so it won't be seen as a rip off of Star Wars - instead of inventing a weapon type all her own for the book. And that is not the reason for the two star rating.

It was the massive amount of sex that had little to no purpose other than to 'get some' because he is hot and she is hot. At one point he 'does it with her' on the back of a large animal for no better reason but to prove t...more

if you're looking for a cool sci-fi/romance/space opera - this ain't it. i'm super surprised by its averaged high rating, actually. firstly, although the world COULD be cool - different aliens, different planes of existence, some quests and magic thrown in - the author does a poor job of showing us around, imho. secondly, the sheer misogyny throughout is repulsive. don't get me wrong - i love me some alpha. but this is ridiculous. physically holding the heroine down to get a 'translator' t...more

When I read the description for this book I was thinking Ewww

No it was more

And there is more than one of them. These aliens have skills in the bedroom. In their world skills and practice are admired. Wait this book is not all about sex, there is a story.
A young woman having a bad day stops into a resale store and buys a pice of ugly jewelry. Boom sexy guy shows up and will not leave, he's an alien from wherever and he must stay with her. Oh he is clueless to her world, he bumb...more

Knight of a Trillion Stars is the first book in the 'Matrix of Destiny' Series by Dara Joy. As the book begins, our heroine, Deana Jones, is having a super rough day. She loses her job, sits in (what may be) urine on the train ride home, gets caught in a traffic jam-- which leads her into a junk shop where she buys strange piece of jewelry-- to finally make it home and find an alien chillin' in her house. The up side? It's a super hot alien! And so the chaos ensues...

This was definitely a fun re...more

This is at least the 3rd time I've read this silly book. And it IS silly. You start with a heroine who's had a really, really awful day (and who can't relate to that?), follow her to Comic-Con, and end up in another dimension. But it's also clever and funny. Joy pokes a lot of fun at a lot of romance stereotypes (and some sci fi stereotypes too), but still manages to make her characters likeable. Which is a good trick, because if any other author tried this, I would want to kick the hero and dum...more

A light humorous read about the unfortunately life of Deana, who comes home to find a alien sitting on her couch. She becomes embroiled in a adventure after meeting this handsome stranger. Each book focuses on a different couple. It very much follows the PNR archetype of Alpha males and 3rd person POV writing, but a engaging read nonetheless. The first book is decent, not sure about the rest.

Last week, I re-read all 3 of the Matrix books published by Dorchester. I haven't been able to read them for some time (I was one of those who got caught in the author's mismanagement of her self-publishing scheme years ago) but I used to love these three books. I was glad to revisit them and be reminded of how much I enjoyed the stories. They're just...fun. They have sensuality, a sense of humor and fun, and were unique in their world building (even despite some of the derivative elements). It'...more

This 1st book in this series was EXCELLENT! It was hilarious & sexy & extremely sensual and romantic. It is just the right blend of everything. From mystical to futuristic to fantasy. When I first started reading it I was not sure where this story was going or taking me. And I had to wonder if it was going to work. But I quickly became engrossed in this book.

I fell in love with Lorgin and Deana aka Adeeann... This was filled with all that I mentioned above and more. It is heartbreaking...more

Wow, Ms. Joy's writing blew me away--most romance authors can just barely manage to tell a coherent story, sometimes in the process leaving the reader feeling humiliated and a bit hungover. This book left me feeling happy and hopeful.

Something happened to this writer mid-stream; she wrote several better-than-average books and then overnight her writing soured and her books turned into stale retreads.

Knight of a Trillion Stars one of the truly great modern romances--up there with A Knight in Sh...more

3 ½ stars. The first 200 pages of this book was great, but the rest of the book went in fast/slow waves, which was fairly annoying. Especially when the writing was good, the characters were good solid characters… I think it was the lack of plot after 200 pages that ultimately kept this book from 4 stars. The first half of the book the plot is basically Lorgin (the warrior [Charl:] alien from Aviaran) taking Deana (who found a Shimalee necklace in a pawn shop- which brought Lorgin to her) as a wi...more

Deana was having a really bad day - she was fired from her job, she sat in something funny and her car is parked in by an accident. While she waits for her car, she goes to a nearby pawn shop and buys a random necklace that she thinks is junk. The necklace is actually a Shimalee, a magical necklace that brings Lorgan ta'al Krue across time and universes to her side. The sexy blonde alien with purple eyes shows up in Deana's living room where he proceeds to tell her that he will now protect her....more

This is a cute futuristic-romance about an alien who finds it's way to earth and the woman destined for him. He then drags her all over the galaxy (actually another dimension) so they can fufill their destiny together. There are also two interesting characters introduced in this book who will get their own novels as well.

This book would get 5 stars from me if only the heroine had a bit more character depth. She convienently has no family on earth, but it is unexplained what happened to them. She...more

This book was absolutely incredible. A series of events unfolding to ensure two people meet under unusual circumstances, fall sizzlingly in love, and fight a bad guy who happens to be mad. . . all these things combined wonderfully to create this story. I am very pleased with the ending and I can see why this book was so popular when it was released, it is one of the very best alien/outer space plot I have ever read. This book had me in thrall, I read it all in one day, devouring its contents hun...more

This was a delightful story filled with adventure, romance, humour and imagination...It was full with passion and flirting and everything was described very tastefully with some old fashioned values so don't expect very descriptive hanky-panky scenes but one gets the picture of what he was doing if you get my drift... ;)
The end was written so nice ..it actually made me smile... one can just imagine her expression when he held out his hand....I loved this book so I shall be ordering the series...

This is a very well-written story, involving time-travel, romance, shape-shifters, other worlds, monsters and hunks. It is the first book in a the series. I like Dara Joy's style of writing, it is casual and witty. The dialogue in it, had me seeing the world and the characters' experiences. There was quite a lot of hinting at what is to come for the character's futures, but if a person did not want to read the other 2 books of the series, that would be fine, as the main two characters in this fi...more

not a bad read. i tried reading another book previously by Dara Joy and got a bit bored. felt it dragged on. this one on the other hand didn't drag. i also think listening to it helped out lots. the beginning was a bit hard to adjust to cause it seemed a bit ridiculous, but then again this is a humorous novel. i'm not really into humor novels. i like funny moments just not ridiculous moments. i do like Joy's plots and will continue with this series. good thing they are audiobooks.

OMG! This is another SYFY romance/time travel book from Dara Joy. This book is so racey it borders on XXX!
When you find out what "Knight of a Trillion Stars" is it will bring a blush to your cheeks & curl your toes.
Once again the male hero in this book is in from another world & has magical charm & powers.
This book will fill your mind with wonder & awe like no place on this earth.

Ugh. A flashback to the old-fashioned 'aching loins' romances of the 70s where a resounding "No!" from the heroine just got her a " stop fighting-you're gonna love it" from the 'hero'. While I generally enjoy a fish-out-of-water type story this was just plain silly in a rather disturbing way. Great for masochists. Second Dara Joy novel that has turned me off. Not an author I will try again.

Okay, I just HAD to try this one.

And it didn't work for me. It's an early paranormal with a lot of "telling". The writing seemed almost sophomoric although I loved the book when I read it ten years ago. Considering it a sort of campy fun at first, I made it almost to the half way point before stopping altogether. Although this was written years ago, I couldn't get past its now dated plot elements and the lack of character development or overall setting. When I found myself counting the number o...more

I can never decide which brother I love more- Rejar, or Lorgin. I will say I reread this book the most out of the series. That's probably because I love Deana's point of view the most though. The arrogant male sweeps her off her bargain basement shoes and into a universe that is unlike any other. Dara Joy created an amazingly entertaining world, worlds to escape into.
