As a blood slave to the bad guy vamps who are addicted to dying blood, Fiona was repeated drained to death and brought back to life again over and over for a hundred years. Now Fiona is free, but unwilling loose that freedom in any way, even to the beautiful warrior whose scent draws her since they are destined mates.

I wasn't completely hooked on Roane's series coming into Born of Ashes - I still have the second book sitting on the pile - but I decided to make a purchase to support my funky lone...more

some spoilers. don't want - don't read.

Jean-Pierre has proved to be my fav of this authors main characters, what with his heart, "knows just what to say and when to say it", his amazing tree/stream home.. and a few others. His part had me giving this novel in the set an additional star. The speed in which Fiona came through her 100 years of torment was a bit unbelievable, but that's my humble opinion.

This book is still a copy of JR Ward work. It is also very repetitive.. again, but in kindness...more

This was a really sweet story! I thought it would be a bit better though. Maybe because I had such an amazing time with the previous reads that I just assumed all of the rest would be just as good. I guess not all the books in a series can be top winners. Still this is one of the best series I have started for a long time.

My only problem with this book (the reason for why I'm not giving 5 stars to it) was that I kept expecting more form the main characters. Probably because the last heroes and h...more

I’m so bummed. It’s totally my fault that I didn’t like this book. I read the description on the back of the book and was expecting a great story. But I read Ascension when it came out in 2010, hated it, traded it to my favorite used book store, and forgot about it…until I started reading this book. If I’d realized this was a sequel to a book I hated, I would not have purchased it, so that’s my bad. There’s really nothing wrong with the story, I guess, just not my cup of tea. I had the same comp...more

Ahhhh, after the abyss that was Book 3, its great to get back to what I was enjoying about this series. Now, I've never been all that impressed with French anything. But then I read this and now I'm in love with Jean-Pierre!!

Jean-Pierre and Fiona... ahhh! A match made in heaven!! Jean-Pierre is awesome! He's so sexy with his wavy, unruly blonde hair, sculpted cheekbones and super hot body. He's also a sweet guy and a considerate lover. LOL! Pretty much a dream guy, I'd say. Jean-Pierre, like mos...more

I knew I would enjoy Fiona and Jean-Pierre’s contribution to this series. Thus far it is my favorite of the Ascension books. I liked Fiona’s character from the beginning. She is strong willed, she knows what she wants, she is a go getter, but her abusive years as a blood slave has left her with some vulnerabilities. She had some obstacles to overcome. Her triumphs and compassion make her a wonderful read though.

Jean-Pierre is the gentle giant that Fiona needs in her life. He seems to know what s...more

I gave this one four stars instead of three like the others, but it doesn't necessarily mean I liked it more or that it was so much better. But I do enjoy the story and I'm planning to read the entire series so I figured I should quit sounding like an ass and rate it higher than three.

I see where the author takes notions from other series/authors that THEY do well but she kind of misses the boat. I never feel all that connected to any of the characters. And they all seem the same with the excep...more

Overall
This is the sweet and softer side of this paranormal romance series. Jean Pierre and his breh, Fiona start slowly and tepidly into their romance. Of all the pairs, they take their time to get to know one another and go on Fiona’s allotted dates. Jean Pierre is the most wonderful, beautiful and understanding man ever (if that’s the type you like - which btw, I don’t).

Fiona is a recovering blood slave and is revealed to be an obsidian flame; one third of a triad of women with immense power....more

So glad I decided to read these in order or I'd have no clue as to what was going on. :) Enjoyed this book and can't believe I'm hooked on another series. While there are tons of vampire books out there, Caris Roane's series is in its own genre. I mean you not only have vampires, but death vampires, several different earths and ascenders who have these amazing powers. Its your classic good against evil and boy do we get a good look at what evil can be. Won't give away any spoilers here but I can...more

What's better than a vampire warrior with wings, built like a Greek god and wears a leather kilt? Absolutely freaking nothing! Caris Roane takes us on a wonderful ride, to a fantasy PNR world that's sexy and thrilling. And guaranteed to have you salivating for more. Loved it!

I put this book down in the middle of reading it because I was geting close to deadlines on other books that I had to read. I shouldn’t have, because it really put the brakes on the continuity of the story as I read it. The book was still really good, and I enjoyed the romance, I loved the build-up of it.

Some authors just know how to do a para-mating…Caris Roane is definitely one of them. While the two main characters are obviously soul-mates, and it is introduced to us towards the end of the la...more

This is quite an improvement over the previous three novels. Born of ashes is actually the best of the series so far. The irritating references to scents is less repetitive than in the other novels. Which isn't to say Roane has acquired much subtlety. I think explaining Jean-Pierre's pronunciation of shit more than once is once too many. That is some really annoying sheet .

Overall, I rolled my eyes a whole lot less this time around because there was improvement on most of the things that have...more

In the Ascension Series, Caris Roane is creating something that just gets better with each book. It astounds me that someone can take snippets of modern culture, add a bit of legend and lore and then create this wonderful world. The Ascension Series is about more than a world in the throes of change, about more a world fighting to survive. It is about one world and all it’s dimensions. About fighting evil and yet not always knowing if what you are doing is working. It’s about the bad guys lookin...more

I had trouble getting into this one at first. The story seemed to move a lot slower than the previous books in the series and the fact that Jean Pierre and Fiona knew they were breh hedren but chose to ignore it out of fear made it very difficult for me to really get into the story at first.

Tehre was a 5 month gap between this book and the prior book where Fiona was rescued. She has come a long way and Jean Pierre is her Guardian of Ascension. They are always together and feel the attraction and...more

Don't get me wrong I enjoy this series but this book was not on the level the others were. It was still a good book in it's own right but I had hoped for more.

The series picks up where the last book leaves off almost. When Fiona and Jean-Pierre meet in the hospital for the first time. This book deals with the trauma Fiona suffer's at Rith's hands. As we found out in the previous book Fiona was drained of her blood to death and then repeatedly brought back to life. Also known as dying blood and i...more

Caris Roane adds passion into her books and it really shows because as I read the characters and story comes to life. Born of Ashes is no exception with this being the fourth in this series Caris writing really shines in this story of hair standing action, emotions and of course, let’s not forget those hot yummy vampire warriors of hers.
Caris, my hat goes off to you for writing Fiona. Out of the hundreds of book I have read there are not many heroines I have wanted to be but I wanted to be Fio...more

Okay where do I begin?

I was so excited going in, because DAMN we finally see hot french man succumb to the breh. But the story line between Jean-Pierre & Fiona did not come through for me. Compared to the previous matches of Kerrick & Alison, Marcus & Havily, Medichi & Parisa, the matching of Jean-Pierre & Fiona was just so wrong in my opinion. The whole union was to formal, to proper and it honestly felt like the only reason they were together was because of the Breh. If the...more

Gorgeous warriors, strong woman to help those men, lots of romance and hot loving, this book has eveything in it. The Guardians of Ascension only keep getting better.

When a book can make you laugh out loud (thanks Endelle) or have your eyes brimming with tears, what's not to love.

Can't wait for the next book!!!

This is my favorite of the series so far. I thought the stoopidity was minimized, but JP and Fiona still had to work to get together. Their issues/problems seemed more understandable than some of the previous couples. And Endelle (and now Marguerite!) continue to crack me up, but in real life they would probably dirve me nuts. 8-)

This one was good. I'm glad that someone dies. The war continues to get interesting with a possible love story for Endelle. That should be a trip. Fiona and Jean-Pierre were a great couple. I like that they actually fell in love and went on dates.

Story: 4 stars
Heat: 4 stars.

What can I say about this book except when is there going to be another?? Oh, wait, "Obsidian Flame" is already out but I've already read that one too!! These guys are just too hot! Just the right combination of bad boy and great man! All I can think is what in the WORLD are the women in this series thinking when they try to resist the breh-hedden???!!! If you ladies don't want them, just send them my way. I'll be happy to oblige!!

LOVE IT! CANNOT WAIT FOR MORE!!

still cant believe the details that this author puts in her books its amazing...now that im finished with this one i have to wait again! for thornes book to come out with him actually starting out as a person thats awol how would have thought that of him! definitely a great read for this series things worked out pretty well and i hope she continues in the next book about fionas continued training and the things she can so being the obsidian flame.

Is it me or is this series taking a downhill spiral? I loved the first two books, but the romance in the third and fourth leaves a lot to be desired.

Actually the overall story arc is fascinating, but I have to say my problem is with the couples in the last two books.

And now my favorite character from the series, the sexy tortured Thorne is to be mated with a raging nymphomaniac in Obsidian Flame???? A horn dog female whose mission in life is to go through the male population faster than a box...more

This is the fourth book in the World of Ascension series and there’s still a lot of explaining about Second Earth, the Warriors of the Blood and the breh-hedden. By now I really don’t need an introduction to all of this. I really liked the warrior Jean-Pierre. He’s compassionated, strong and thoughtful. Fiona on the other hand annoyed me, I couldn’t connect with her. This book also seemed a bit slower than the previous books. I was very excited about getting to know more about the Warrior of the...more

The plots and sub-plots never quit! The characters were 'real' and full of personality! Some characters from previous books were better defined and filled out. Great read, hard to put down! Very strong female personalities.

Starts out a bit slow (like two star bad) but it really picked up the last half or so. Enjoyed it enough to look foward to the next installement for the series. I hope Endelle gets a story, she cracks me up.

I won this book on goodreads. I have not read the other books by Caris Roane, but I will be looking for them now. I enjoyed this book and it kept me interested. This is a book that I could not put down and I finished it in one day. All I can say is I loved it. I would so recommend this book, and you should go out and get it.
Mayanna
This book was quite good, however out of the whole series I felt this book was one of the weakest however it did have some good chapters and kept me entertained.
Aly (Mircea) Basarab
This is getting better and better! I liked everything in this book. I don't need the "count the + and the - list" 'cuz I can't think of a "-" right now :D

PS: The next book... I predict FIREWORKS, lots and lots :D

I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire....more
