Loved it! This is the second in the series, but it could easily be read as a stand alone (enough back story is given.) This is a simple and very romantic story of a young Irish woman, Brianna, who runs her own B&B in a remote area of Ireland. In the dead of winter, she takes on an extended guest -- a famous author, Grayson, who plans to stay a few months and write his next novel. He quickly becomes enchanted by her and involved in the lives of those in the village. It was such a beautiful lo...more
Book two in the "Born In' trilogy by Nora Roberts turned out to be an even better ovary tickler than book one <vbg>.
I think the reason Nora Roberts books are so readable is because her characters are so likeable. It becomes very easy to lose yourself in their world and lives. These books are great escapism and a wonderful antidote to the awful sad lives of people we read about in the newspaper every day.

Why I read this book:
I don't know if I've ever read a physical book by Nora Roberts. Mostly I've listened to her books on CD during long car trips. My mother collects books on CDs because of her long commute, and I joyously cherry-pick her collection whenever I visit her. Having someone read a story to me makes those long drives much less tedious. Born in Ice is the second in one of her many three sibling series.

Born in Ice is the second book in the Nora Roberts Born In trilogy. This book follows Brianna Concannon, the younger sister of Maggie, from Born in Fire.
Brianna was able to achieve her dream of starting a good Irish B and B, and her efforts are paying off. She is known as the best cook in the area, and her home is praised by all who come to stay, even if it is only a day or two at a time. At the start it is the middle of winter, and that’s her slow season, yet this year she has a guest...more

I fear that someone would see this book on my list and then plummet into a profound confusion. I felt that way when I found myself wanting to read it (or any Nora Roberts book).
I'm going to keep this in simple terms and without much apology for really enjoying it. Grayson was such an interesting character and I found myself thinking of him as if I would one day write a character study or analysis. I admired his temperament and his attitude, I passionately disagreed with him on many to...more

The story was plodding and predictable.
It felt like a "formulaic romance novel." It had the necessary ingredients but I don't remember smiling at anything. Questions were raised and then they were logically answered later. The characters' conversations were predictable. Nothing surprised or delighted me. I was annoyed that the author used the phrase "you see" too often. This book is the 2nd in the “Born In” series. I knew it would happen one day: I found my least favorite Nora Roberts novel. I was particularly disappointed because I really loved the first book of this trilogy, but Gray's jerkishness was souring, and Brianna's niceness fell into doormat territory too often. I loved the moments she stood up for herself (against her mother, and when Gray tries to manipulate her into being angry at him), but I think it's a personal thing: I want a more assertive heroine who goes for what she wants. The old ada...more
Book 2 in the "Born In" Trilogy. Not only my favorite in the series, but my favorite Nora Roberts book ever, and I have read every one of her books that I can get my hands on. I have lost count of how many times I have reread this series over the years. I never tire of the characters or the stories behind them.

Really not anticipating on reading the second novel of the Born In Trilogy, I found myself wondering just how the time jumped to 4am and I already half way through Born in Ice. Surprised at my inconsistency of taste, I enjoyably sped through Born in Ice although I didn't care much for Born in Fire, the first of the series starring Rogan Sweeny and Maggie Concannon.By no means a challenging and lofty piece of literature, Roberts uses the same template for Born in Ice as she did for Born in Fire. ...more

Second of the Concannon Sisters Trilogy, Bri Concannon is the repressed younger sister who made it her life's work to take care of home and hearth. So when her father willed her the family home, she turned it into a B&B so she could continue to take care of home and other people.
When footloose writer Grayson Thane decided to use the Irish countryside for his latest thriller, he chose Bri's Blackthorn Cottage as his base, and couldn't resist falling for Bri's quiet and competent nat...more

Oh, I love this book more than the first one! Though the trilogy concentrates more on the Concannon sisters, I found myself drawn more to the male character in Born in Fire.
Grayson Thane is one intriguing man, I have to say. A thriller/mystery writer, he's got an air of mystery himself, that man. When he's in one of his writing's mood, he'll lock himself up from the rest of the world for days with nary a care for food. Or shower. Even Brie, the woman he fancies the most won't be allow...more

I picked up this book at the thrift store when looking on the shelves for another Irish based book by Nora to read before a blizzard here. I started reading this book in the early evening and could NOT put it down. By the time I finished at 3:30am I was sobbing. I got so caught up in the story that I felt I was there. I've read it twice now.
I did not read the first book as flipping through it didn't appeal to me, but I will be reading the third book when I can get my hands on it.

I am not going to review every Nora Roberts book that I have read in the past because she is quite prolific and it would get redundant and I honestly cannot remember all the plots. I think someone finds someone else attractive but at least one cannot admit it so there is sexual tension, then lots of sex, and then they live happily ever after? Sometimes there is some magic , a family legacy, or a mystery. Certainly not great works of literature (however still 100% better than “the grapes of wra...more
If Maggie were the woman I wanted to be, Bre is the people pleaser that I am, minus the quiet dignity of course. I really liked her love interest in this one as well, probably because he was a writer and I really want to be writer. And, oh yeah, I love her dog. I would say thouigh that I didn't like this one as much as the first (there I go with second book in a series again), but it was still very satisfying. If you are going to spend a week on a beach, these three books are the perfect beach...more
In this book we get to know Brianna Concannon. In the first book, Born in fire, I thought Brianna was a whimp. She bowed her neck to other peoples wishes all the time, especially her mothers. I plain didn´t like her. But she sure did grow on me in this book. Now when I have read all three books, I like her the most and I think this book is the best of the trilogy.

The second in the Born In trilogy, I identified more with this book's heroine, Brianna Concannon than I did with Maggie. Perhaps because Brianna was more reserved, which I could relate to. Brianna runs a Bed and Breakfast in Clare County Ireland, and her life is forever changed when American author Grayson Thane shows up to stay for months. Brianna and Grayson's romance blossoms, but Grayson has some serious relationship issues and Brianna has a very strained family. It's the second in the serie...more
Second book in the series. Lives and loves of an Irish family. Good fast reading.
Born in Ice is the story of Brianna, the second eldest Concannon sister, who was born in the frigid sense of duty to the Church.
Brie's sister, Maggie, is happily married and pregnant and her mother has moved out of the home the Concannon sisters grew up in. Now it's the base of Brie's B&B, Blackthorn Cottage, a lovely inn she's running all by herself.
In the icy and stormy weather of Irish winter, visitors are scarce, yet this year, the bestselling author Grayson Thane intends...more

Another amazing installment. I will admit that I was pretty sure I wouldn't like this one as much as I did the first and for that I am ashamed of myself, for not having more faith on this amazing author. Brianna just seemed BORING to me on Born in Fire. I should have known better, if there's anybody out there who could make this character such a compelling and deep-layered one is Nora Roberts. I started to like Brianna more and more with every page I read and by the end of the book not even the ...more

So, I'm not even sure what I really liked about this book. I think, in a way, it was boring, but somehow...not...at the same time. Okay, nothing really happened in this book, but it was hard to notice with such interesting and unique and REAL characters. I loved that, for once, it was the woman with the cool temper. Brianna was great that way. Yes, at times it was a bit annoying and you just wanted to shake her, but she stayed true to her character, and it was a breath of fresh air to have a her...more
This was my favorite of the trilogy. In this book, the female love interest Brie makes a number of discoveries about herself and her family, including why her fiance left her years earlier. She also falls in love with a long term guest at her B&B.
Gray, the guest, is a famous author who comes to Ireland to write his next book. He is a loner and becomes very troubled when he considers making Ireland his home and becoming a part of a family.

Typical Nora Roberts, same basic plot lines. For me what makes these books worth reading is the charactors. The author has a knack for making the charactors seem real enough to step out of the pages and into your living room.

I usually find that at least one of the books in a trilogy is not as good as the others. I expected it to be this one since I was not enamored of Brianna in the first of the trilogy. She is so reserved. However, I should have known Ms. Roberts would pull it off, which she does in fine fashion. By the end of the book, the reader is totally pulling for Brie - and for Gray. I particularly enjoyed the insights into writing fiction, which I assume are from Ms. Roberts' personal experiences.
As the second book in the series I was really glad to see it pick up and continue without effort. I really enjoyed this book, more than the first actually, and was completely wrapped in it until I finished it...which didn't take long. Again I really recommend this book, as I did with the first one, but I really suggest that you read the first one first. This one is so closely connected to the first that it can leave you with questions if you didn't read the first one first.
i liked this installment of the Concannon sisters the best. Gray is great and Brianna is such a lovely character. this book is the epitome of "if you love someone, let them go, if they come back to you they're yours". I enjoyed Gray's back story and what he made of himself from where he came. The process of finding Shannon plays in nicely to the story and gives Gray and Brianna adventures to go on. I dont feel like doing a super review so I'm not typing any more!
This wasa just ok. I like the fact that it continues on with the story of Maggie and Rogan. However, we learn the truth about about Amanda. The last thing the girl's father said. You realize that Maeve the mother is just horrible and tries to make her daughters pay for her misery. This was not my favorite. Brianne is a simple person who is longing for love and finds out many truths during this book. I can't wait to see how this ends with the finding of their half sister. However you have to love...more
Brianna and Grayson's story is wonderful. A great story just like the first in the series. I loved the amount of different emotions and I will admit I cried a few times. Very powerfully written story that had me experience a lot of different emotions. I enjoyed Grayson's back story and Brianna coming to terms with the her mother. I loved the twists Brianna found in the attic. I can't wait to see where the letters lead! I definitely recommend.
