Now that I have read the book I must say that I'm slightly disappointed. Mainly because they didn't finish the whole story in this one book but that the second half is in the next book coming out in January I believe. Nail-bitingly intense and exciting this is a book with bite!

Anyone who knows me or reads this blog will know I am a huge vampire fan, I have been since I was a little girl and my dad used to buy my vampire books. So, The Vampire Dairies are right up my street. I first read the books in my teens, many moons ago before they became as popular as they are now. This was a good read, however it feels like these books is just a way to make money for the publishers. Dont get me wrong, I love the Stefan diaries books BUT except for the first and the second one I think that they dont really bring so much to the story about the two brothers. This is not the Ripper you think of from the Vampire Diaries show... Nope, this is THEE ripper. And the brothers are wrapped up in the middle of it. This is book 4 in the STEFAN'S DIARIES series. This series is not penned by LJ SMITH but by 2 other authors. 1 of whom works on the tv series (Julie Plec). Many are and are not fans. They feel it is an insult and sell out to the actual VD series by LJ Smith. I actually love this series & prefer it to TVD by LJ. LJ's books are rather good I just did not "connect" to them. I guess it could be because I watched an entire season on tv BEFORE reading them so Stefans Diaries felt more "real" to me.

It is a light series based on the show itself and it is supposed to fill in the gaps. The before Elena years gaps. That appealed to me. One thing I love on TVD show is the history flashbacks.

So, in book 4 we have followed Stefan & Damon from human to vampire and every place in between. Stefan has moved to England and is working on a farm. He is on the "bunny diet" as Damon affectionately calls it. He travels into London with his boss one day & decides to look up Damon. Stefan has heard via newspaper of a few grisly murders that he thinks may be connected to Damon.

After a dramatic reunion & Stefan saves a human girl & takes her under his wing (again) the brothers try to figure out who is committing these grisly murders. Stefan believes it could be Damon & is going to stop him before he is caught. He wants to save him. Damon is Damon & while he is flagrantly abusing his "vampire powers" he assures Stefan he is NOT "The Ripper".

A bloody message left on a wall leads Stefan to believe Klaus or another "Original" is after them yet once again.
After a bit of bumbling around the inevitable showdown happens back at the farm Stefan has worked on for over a year.

The ACTUAL "Ripper" is a complete surprise to both of the brothers. Yes, he is a vampire. Lives are lost. Tears are shed. Hands are wrung. Damon swears vengeance. Stefan falls in line.

It was a very fast and entertaining read. If you like the show you will enjoy this series. Some may not like "The Ripper" being turned into a vampire & history twisted to make this happen. If you're not super concerned about that you will further enjoy the twists this story takes and the different view on "Jack the Ripper".

The series does give us insight into the tv characters and their hundred some odd year long contentious relationship. We run into characters from the show that we love & hate and learn more about them. Basically the gaps are filled, in an entertaining way.

Sériu Stefanove denníky, ktorá je voľne vytvorená podľa seriálového spracovania, som si už v minulosti obľúbil. Príbeh bratov Salvatore ma zaujal a nebolo tomu inak ani v prípade štvrtej časti, v ktorej ich opäť dostihne minulosť, tentokrát v podobe vraha, ktorý sa zameriava na mladé dievčiny. A jeho charakteristika sa každým dňom viac a viac podobá na upíra. Mohlo by sa zdať, že ním je Damon. Ale... bude to naozaj on?

Another great backstory of the Salvatore brothers as told through the history of the show's mythology. Great quick and fun read for those who love Victorian London and the current CW show The Vampire Diaries. Damon as his snarky best is the opposite of the perpetually brooding Stefan. I have read the first three in this series. I liked the first two, got a bit annoyed with the third. This one....just ticked me off! I cannot read anymore. I found the story was jumping around. Some things were different then before. It just did not make since.

Oh, and if you think it has ANYTHING to do with the show (I mean come on, it has one of the actor's face on the cover), you are so wrong! Do not make the mistake and think it will give you insight as to what is going on TVD. It has none!

Tying historical events into a work of fiction can be tricky, but Smith's choice of Jack the Ripper works to her advantage because there was never any conclusive verdict on who the murderer was. There were many suspects (both popular at the time, and in current speculation), but having a vengeful vampire as the real Ripper is highly realistic (if one suspends belief in the supernatural). Love reading these books, really help to bring more of the show to life! Like others, I thought this book was about how Stefan was the ripper but after seeing the series makes sense why they didn't do it b/c they already told us that story, why waste a book on it?

Ani tentokrát nejse ušetřeni Stefanových moralistických proslovů. Tentokrát ale v menší míře a příjemnějším znění, takže to tolik nevyčnívá z textu. Je vidět, že prošel po těch dvaceti letech opravdu aspoň malou změnou a uvědomil si své možnosti. Už se tolik nelituje a spíš přemýšlí a plánuje do budoucnosti.
Události v Londýně mu ale naruší plány, takže je nutný svou situaci přehodnotit. A čelit nastalým podmínkám, což také znamená setkat se s bratrem.
Damon. Ani ten nezůstal nepoznamenán časem a jeho chování je snad ještě zákeřnější a nevypočitatelnější. Protože je takřka nemožné, aby svému bratrovi odpustil. Jenže tak se to na první pohled jeví. Sice tu jsou kousavé narážky na Stefana zachránce. Ale určitě to není ten Damon, který se rozhodl udělat svému bratrovi ze života peklo.
Celková zápletka je dobrá. Záhadný vrah si vybírá ženy z nejnižší vrstvy společnosti, kterým pak rozerve hrdlo a vykuchá je. Povolaný Stefan samozřejmě poznal práci upíra.
Byla jsem příjemně překvapená překladem, protože v předešlých dílech mi přišly nějaké věty dost kostrbaté, tentokrát se mi příběh krásně četl a jazyk mi přišel celkem přiměřený na 19. století, ale co já vím, jak se tehdy mluvilo.
Shrnuto a podtrženo, čtvrtý díl se nemusí za nic stydět. Je to vlastně první kniha z celé série jak Upíří nebo Stefanovy deníky, kterou jsem si opravdu užila, a její čtení mě bavilo.
U Stefanových deníků mám naštěstí jiný pocit než u UD a to, že kvalita každým dílem stoupá, takže ať už to píše kdokoliv, každým dílem se zlepšuje a to v každém ohledu.
Celý příběh je vystupňován do napínavého konce, kde se nakonec dozvídáme, že se bratři své minulosti nezbavili. Ať už to zkoušeli jakýmkoli způsobem, stejně je dostihla.
Je to celkem politováníhodné, že ani jednomu se to nepovedlo, i když se mohli snažit jak chtěli.
Nikdy jsem si nemyslela, že bych jakoukoli knížku z téhle série mohla ohodnotit 7/10, ale je to tak. Tenhle díl si to určitě zaslouží a já se těším na ten další, který přímo navazuje na tento.

With the title of the book an instance comes to mind remember Stefan's alter-ego, the one with no emotions what so ever was called "the ripper" in season 2. But this ripper is definitely not that what you all are thinking. For its 1888 and Stefan is in London this time and sure enough Jack The Ripper is reeking havoc and somehow or the other the estranged Salvatore brothers find themselves into it.

The story goes something like this - Stefan has made a little life out of London. He knows this peace won't last and sure enough a certain trip to London does just that. When he finds Damon's alias in the society pages and a horrific murder on the front page. He knows he needs to stick around and find who this murderer is and save London and this girl he has become fond of. Stefan suspects its his brother Damon who is killing people and by people I mean specifically girls.

But an ominous message in blood prompts him to change his perspective about things. Is it really Damon? But if not then who? Is someone after him and Damon? (Well you need to read the book to find out the answer, cause i'm not giving away anything)

The Ripper is short and an easy read. The plot is good enough. It was a very fast and entertaining read. If you like the show you will enjoy this series. The point of Jack the Ripper was cleverly put in the plot. And for the first time we see Stefan's thoughts about the always being in the shadow of his older brother. A heartfelt thought that comes in the minds of every younger brothers and sisters around the world.

So I'd read Volumes 1,2,3,5 & 6 of stefan's diaries - but i'd missed the 4th one so now, i saw how Stefan had befriended Violet after going to London for a week. He showed Violet the upperclass life i guess, which was kind of him - meanwhile trying to figure out who was behind the Ripper murders - and he was trying to help Violet find her sister, Cora. Personally this was not my favourite of the books I have read so far, but nevertheless, it did not take me long to get through. I am still, as I am through the TV show, drawn to Damon and his portrayal and as I have said in previous TVD reviews, the similarities between him in the books and at least in the beginning of season 1 are quite uncanny - it is a credit to both writers (TV and book) that they have been able to match their portrayals quite so closely.

Spoiler alert!!! And i don't usually do spoilers,but i have to this time! This was ok...so,so. A little boring with stiff, boring, sappy Stefan( why can't we have Damon's diaries, huh? Lol). The story of Stephan Salvatore continues and I was hoping that on this book there would be more action and much more suspense...however I felt that there was something missing out of this one. There was some mystery and the suspense of trying to figure out who Jack the Ripper was the only reason that kept me reading, but yet it was lacking excitement in the romance department which you come to look for in a good vampire novel. Hopefully #5 turns out to be better or have a better story line.

I fratelli Salvatore entrano nel mondo di Jack lo Squartatore, una Londra di fine '800 impermeata dai misteri.

Si legge in velocità come gli altri perchè è piuttosto appassionante, ma vista l'attenzione nei dettagli dei due autori nella sceneggiatura del telefilm, mi aspettavo qualcosina di più dal punto di vista storico / descrittivo.
