Let me tell you about this series. I love it.
It was mostly the characters that drew me in-they're all interesting and although very different. They're also very pleasing to the eye-no generic anime/manga character art here.
Now, I'm going to contrast it with another popular and well-known manga it's been compared to a lot, and which a lot of people think is very similar (it's not).

I don't know why, but I was reminded of Chobits when I read DearS. Maybe it's how Takeya found Ren and how she called him "master" upon waking up. Maybe it's the obstacles Takeya and Ren had to overcome to be together. Maybe it's because of the cute, ecchi theme going on. I don't know, and I don't really care! I loved Chobits and I love DearS! The concept might not be original or complicated (although there are mysteries about the DearS Takeya had to solve and a few action scenes) but I think th...more
I've lowered my initially generous rating of 2 stars to one, as this book really is just dreadful. Putting aside the stark similarities to its manga predecessor, Chobits (socially-awkward guy meets confused and mute pretty girl, dodges sexual innuendo to teach her how to talk), DearS volume 1 is simply a lewd presentation.
