"The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! / Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason." Dr. Seuss's small-hearted Grinch ranks right up there with Scrooge when it comes to the crankiest, scowling holiday grumps of all time. For 53 years, the Grinch has lived in a cave on the side of a mountain, looming above the Whos in Whoville. The noisy hol...more

Whenever someone asks me if I celebrate Christmas and I'm about to be catty and say that I don't because I'm not a Christian, I wish an alert would sound in my ear and warn me not to be like Grinch. "Don't steal Christmas, Yulia. Don't do it!"

The Grinch didn't steal my Christmas. I had one of my "I hate everybody I'm related to except for the twin who is a lot like me" moods today (it was understandable as they are assholes. They deserved it and I did not). Everything breaks around me except for hearts long drawn out sigh. The day was already shaping up to one of those days that could only be improved by the ground opening up and swallowing me hole. Coming home to find vehicles of people I would rather not see again? Where is that as...more

If your only knowledge of this story is through film (either animated or live-action) you must . . .MUST . . . run out and read the actual, original text. Seuss's work is so visual and his playful, inventive language is so captivating that filmmakers (even when Seuss is directly involved as in the Boris Karloff-Voiced Grinch) can't help but pad his work with long passages devoted to interesting drawings of wackily-named who-toys.

But in the book, the most Seussian reference is to who-hash.The Wh...more

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is a very cute book. I would recommend it for children and adults. I would rate it a five out of five because it is a cute story. It is about a "grinch" who hates Christmas. The grinch steals all the presents from "Whoville" on Christmas Eve. Cindy Loo Who, a young child, tries to get the grinch into the Christmas spirit. The grinch tries to ruin Christmas for the entire town. Will he give the presents back? Who will save Christmas?

Dr. Seuss is one deep-thinking philosophical dude who takes you on an emotional roller coaster. I mean, wow, how many times have I puzzled until my "puzzler was sore." Little Cindy Lou Who's narrow escape from the Grinch's evil clutches--when he got her drink, patted her on the head, and sent her to bed--had me crying with relief. AND SPOILER ALERT: The Grinch gets to carve the roast beast at the Who's Xmas feast in the end. All I have to say is my heart grew three sizes the day I read this stor...more

My family didn't celebrate Christmas, but I still enjoyed this book immensely--especially when we could read it along with watching the special on television. Being that I was frequently the only child who didn't celebrate Christmas in my class, I kind of related to what the Grinch was going through, feeling like everyone else had this thing they did that they all understood and all shared but I wasn't included and automatically felt a little bitter at the exclusion (even though I had my own hol...more

Seriously, Dr. Seuss at his best! I remember having this book read to me as a little girl, but I'm going to be honest and say I've not read it to my little ones. It's one and has always been one of my favorite stories, but when you see it every year on television you sort of forget to sit down and read it with your kids.

What a great book to sit down with and talk to our kids while reading it. Why do you think Christmas is important? Why do our kids? It's s...more

This was the first Dr. Seuss book I ever read as a child and still to this day is my all time favorite book, by Dr. Seuss. I love that Dr. Seuss writes and illiterates his own work and shows his fun side through out each book. This book rhymes within and keeps the readers attention to each word as it moves along the pages. The illustrations a genius, as he shows every word. For those of you who have not had the pleasure to read this classic Dr. Seuss book, it is about the Grinch who is angry wit...more

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is about a town called Who-ville where all the Who's love and celebrate Christmas every year besides one Who named The Grinch. The Grinch hates Christmas perhaps because his heart is two sizes too small, and he goes on a mission to "steal" Christmas from the Who's. The night before Christmas the Grinch dresses up as Santa and hitches up his dog, Max to his sled so that he can go into the Who's houses as an imposter and steal all their presents, decorations, and ev...more

This book is one of my two holiday traditional reads (the other being “The Firflake: A Christmas Story” by my good friend, Anthony Cardno (in fact, I urge you to go to Amazon or Barnes & Noble—or even better, your local independent bookseller, and pick yourself up a copy or six). Unfortunately, this year, I just couldn’t get in the mood to read “The Firflake” this year (just too much depression), so “The Grinch” had to be it this year.

If I really need to summarize this book for you, then you...more

This is a fantastic book written by Dr Seuss about a town called who-ville where everyone loves christmas except for the Grinch. The Grinch hated christmas because it was believed that his heart was two sizes to small. He decided that he would need to stop christmas from coming and he dressed up as santa and went to who-ville. He removed all of the christmas presents and the decorations and the christmas tree and when a little girl called cindy-lou found him taking everything from her house the...more

This wasn't one of those books that I read a long time ago and forgot to add to my shelves. I literally read this book for the first time today. Don't get me wrong, I knew the story. Who doesn't? But it was from movies and word of mouth. I hadn't actually read the honest-to-God book. Which apparently -according to my friends- is a crime against humanity. I even got assassinated by my friend. (Long story short- We have an book nerd assassins club to take out people we don't like, especially the p...more

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is about a creature named the Grinch. He lives in a cave on a moutain (MT. Crumpit) with his dog, Max. Mt. Crumpit is located north of a little town called Whoville. The book begins with the Grinch standing outside of his cave looking down at Whoville. He expresses his hate of Christmas. He explains that he can't stand when the Whos (citizens of Whoville) make noise when they play wih their presents, feast on "roast beast", and most of all, when they join hands and...more

Dr. Seuss has always been a terrific teller of tales. His unique illiteration and repetition of words encourages parents to read to kids and kids to read to parents.... Until they drive each other crazy, laughing hysterically. I guess that's the point. To actually enjoy reading about silly things to enjoy reading about everything!
The only way to do something over and over again is to learn to enjoy it in the first place, and that's what's so great about his books. He gets people to read at a yo...more

Somewhere north of Who-ville lived a small hearted Grinch who HATED christmas, but everyone who lived in Who-ville loved it a lot! Why did he hate christmas, no one quite knows.. but he does, and this time he HAD to stop this season! He was tired of the little who kids running for their toys and eating their fabulous meal, they would surely enjoy their 'Who-roast-BEAST' which the Grinch could not stand! The singing, ah the singing, the Grinch was adamant to stop the singing. How did he stop Chri...more

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the story of the Grinch who hated Christmas. He hated it so much he moved away from Who-ville and one Christmas decided that he had enough and was going to ruin Christmas for everyone. On Christmas eve, he dresses like Santa and instead of going down the chimney to delver toys he takes them away. In the morning when the Grinch wakes up, he assumes he is going to hear sadness and crying, but to his dismay he hears singing as if nothing had happened. This is when...more

Dr. Seuss is a genius and an author that will be referenced for years. His stories while not only enjoyable are educational and stimulating. Due to those factors I have read almost all of Dr. Seuss' books. However, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is one of my favorites. This story starts out somewhat dark. A Grinch that does not believe in Chirstmas or even happiness at all. He lives far away from everyone in his town and comes up with a plan as how to sabatoge everyones holiday celebrations. How...more

It’s Christmas time and in the who-ville every Who’s was happy and cheerful except the Who named Grinch! The Grinch hated Christmas but what he hated the most was the joyful singing and the noisy holiday preparations of the Who’s. So he made up an evil plan which seemed to him to be an amazing idea. He decided to steal everything from the happy little citizens. Everything. To his surprise, the who-village kept singing and celebrating even with nothing. That day, the two sizes small heart of the...more

Another timeless book by Dr. Seuss. I would read this book during the Christmas season. I would also allow the students to watch the cartoon version of this book. Then students could compare and contrast between the movie and the book.

Also, the book talks about emotions and how things makes a person feels. Students will learn how to appropriately express their emotions. Students could write about if they knew someone like the Grinch, how would they welcome him and make him feel better. I would u...more

How the Grinch stole Christmas by Dr. Suess is an all-time classic! It is about the Grinch, the people of Who-ville, and the Grinch’s dog, max. The story is about how much the Grinch hates Christmas. He hates it so much he attempts to take Christmas away from the people of Who-ville. So he dresses max, his dog, into an reindeer and builds a sleigh, then rides into the city and takes the all food, presents, ect. In the end when he heard all the people of Who-ville cries, his heart grew 3x in size...more

Such a classic book that has been read to me since I was a child during the holiday season. When reading this again for a class project it brought back the memories of my childhood and how my parents read this to me before bed every christmas. I absolutely love this book. From the message it holds to just the words written on the page. Although this book is good and would love to teach it in my future classroom but because it is about Christmas it may be a little harder to teach because not ever...more

One of my favorite Christmas stories (the other is A Christmas Carol). Both the book and the brilliant show by Chuck Jones warm the cockles of my heart, and, of course, make it grow three sizes.

I love this book. It is one of my favorite Christmas stories of all time. This book is about a character named the grinch. The grinch is an outcast who lives outside of a town called Whoville. Everyone in Whoville loves Christmas, but the grinch hates Christmas. The grinch comes up with a plan to ruin Christmas for all of the people in Whoville. It was amazing! It was the best! I can't say more because I just love love love this book! This may be written by Dr. Seuss for children but the movie adaptation was for all ages that I, myself, fell in love with it! I even googled a lot about this book and the movie.

Truth be told, it was just January when I watched the movie. But take note, I've watched it for like 15 times during that month! Crazy you may say; that's what my siblings say actually. But would you blame me? I love the movie. I l...more

Great book. Disagree that this is for ages 3 - 8. It should be required reading for all to help counter-act the messages of commercialism that we are exposed to on a daily basis from October to January. Dr. Seuss has a marvelous way with words which would be reason enough to read his book but to add to that he has a "monster" in the form of a Grinch, an angel in the form of Cindy Lou Who, and a heist-turned-miracle. This is also one of those rare books that were able to be turned into a wonderfu...more

It wouldn’t be Christmas without reading this book! every year i read this book during Christmas time, its always my favorite. The story of the Grinch is about how lonely the Grinch is and mean and evil. Every year he hears the Whos in Whosville and cant stand them singing. He makes a plan and decides that if he steals Christmas they wont have anything to sing about. Little did he know that even without the gifts they got together and sang because all they needed was friends and family. This is...more

My all time favorite children's book. I can read this over and over again. The kid in me had to put it on my ever expanding bookshelf. A wonderful Christmas tradition that I thoroughly enjoy. I love to read this book aloud.
