My Review of Fade (Book 1 of the FADE Series): 5 Stars, 1 Flame
This is Kailin's first book in the Fade Series (ooh a series!!). As is her usual style, she presents us all with both the plausible and implausible events and leaves it up to us to digest it. This book is fast paced and exciting, a total page-turner. She starts the story out in regular old day-to-day high school life then BAM! We have moved on to the thrilling and supernatural, exciting world only found in the Underground. The primar...more
15% into this book and I gave up. It feels like I'm reading fanfiction, it really does.
The protagonist has no personality, there's barely any dialogue, I feel like I'm reading a movie script, or a Wikipedia plot overview.
And if someone rips you out of your life, only to have a military force come bursting to your rescue... why exactly would you go with the person who upended your life? And then to later shoot a random stranger with no hesitation to save this upender?
Yeah, not buying it.

Ok, WOW. What planet does Kailin Gow come from, 'cuz her stories are outta this world!!!
I have never read an ending like this one. My God, I'm still recovering from it. I think this will be my favorite series from Gow. It's not just the storyline that's fascinating but the characters and all the history that connects them. Apparently, it's a small world when it comes to the Underground and the Others.

I was looking forward to this book and series after seeing so many positive reviews. I wanted something to tide me over between books in the Divergent series, and this sounded so similar. Unfortunately, this book was a big disappointment.
I felt like I was reading the cliff notes to a real book, or like someone else wrote, fanfiction. If I was asked to describe any of the characters, I wouldn't even know what to say. The main character is blonde and can run fast, but that's just a physical descri...more

There seems to be nothing that Kailin writes that I don't like, her writing is superb and she draws me in with each and every new book or series that I read.
This one was no exception, I was highly invested in the characters, and was often left on tenterhooks waiting to find out what was going to happen next.

Kailin Gow does her readers justice with this thrilling and mind boggling series. Fade introduces readers to a concept that is out of this world.
Celestra Caine was a normal high school track star. Suddenly her world is turned upside down, when her family is Faded and she’s thrown into a completely new life. There’s definitely more than meets the eye in Celestra’s new life and Celestra is in for an awakening when she gets to know all of Mr. Jack Simple. Jack is with Celestra every step while she...more

Fade is the first book in the Fade series by Kailin Gow. This is also the first time I’ve read anything by this author. While the premise of the book itself was a bit different for me, there was the usual teenaged angst, and of course the dreaded and hated 3-way relationship love triangle between Celestra Caine and two other possible love interest.

booklending.com thriller of the week excerpt
Fade is a very unique fantasy thriller. This story has potential. It's a page-turner with a number of interesting twists. But... the characters seem pretty shallow to me, and most importantly, this is not a complete story. The "book" is fairly short (3000 Kindle locations) and ends in a cliff-hanger. I knew it was the first in a series, but really, it's just the first part of a single story.
I don't usually purchase books "cold" from authors I'm unfamiliar with, but I read an excerpt online and I...more

Do Not bother reading this series! The first book is kind of fun. She's definitely good at writing out the action scenes. And I love the main guy character, but oh, series is so frustrating!! The girl is sooooo dumb!!!! First she's in love with her boyfriend, but when her life changes and she thinks she'll never be with him again, she falls in love with the other guy. Then she just has to see her boyfriend one last time, and oh yeah, she really loves him. But then the other guy comes back, and o...more
Celestra Caine's life has been pretty normal. She is a senior, preparing to go to college, on the track team, has a great boyfriend, and her family leads a pretty typical life. All of that changes when she arrives home to find no one there, is unable to locate her family, and is informed she is about the fade. All the sudden Celes finds herself face to face with the handsome and debonair Jack Simple, and strangely enough though overwhelmed, finds herself feeling like she can trust him. After bar...more
Gow has a very active imagination, having written so many (I saw 80 somewhere) Teen and YA novels, mostly series. One thing all the ones I have read have in common is a love triangle, where the heroine is "in love" with both boys. Makes me crazy. However the premise of this book makes up for that.
There is a group that "fades" people, takes them away from their homes and erases all trace of their existence. Celestra a.k.a "Celes" has been selected for fading, and she doesn't know why, or what has...more

I fell in love with the cover at first sight, and the blurb was captivating. Fortunately, this series is a bit "old" so book 1,2, and 3 have already been published. This is much easier for me, so I don't have to wait for the new books to come out. This was a promising start to the series.

Honestly, it's a good book. It's what you'd expect from a good book.
I found it a bit confusing in the beginning of the story. What was going on?! But it started explaining itself throughout the story. And one thing about the book too, I really liked that the author could stretch out a few days into a book. I find that a really admirable trait from authors because I certainly can't do that. I'm not very good with details.

SPOILER ALLERT - but This book was awful!!
This book was awful! I am not usually harsh in book reviews but this book went from start to being kidnapped, appearance changed and a new life given in just a few pages. It is told quickly and perfunctory. I also don't buy the idea that a normal 17 year old girl with a serious boyfriend would just go off with the person who took her, shoot the person possibly trying to help her and then let them change her appearance even down to her fingerprints. I am really starting to like the dystopia genre. Although when I started reading this book, I had no idea it was dystopia. I loved how this book started though, it didn't wait to get to the action, it started off with a bang and continued throughout the whole book.

Emm, I'm a bit confused here. Are all Kailin Gow's books so short? I didn't even have time to fully connect to the book and its characters and I was already finished with it.
The plot was good and whole idea was pretty awesome, because I didn't anticipate anything like what happened in this book. So, it was a good suprise.
The characters were good, though I had the impression that the author tried to write the lead character,Celestre, as a strong and independed woman, but that didn't work out as g...more

Someone already said it, but I feel I should mention it again: this book reads like fanfiction.
I loved the concept, and how disturbing it must be to find yourself instantly forgotten, but... a few pages in and I could see what I had been tricked into reading.
The characters, terribly one-dimensional. Celes has no mind of her own. There's the ever present love triangle, which I cannot seem to get away from. And worst of all, the writing is so rushed and amateur I foundd myself thinking that I've r...more

How would you feel if one day you come home to an eerie empty house, your all alone when suddenly the phone rings and says “You are about to Fade” What?!? Crazy right? Well that is exactly what happens to Celestra Cane. With one phone call her world and the life that she thought she knew comes crashing in on here. Not everything as it seems and she is more important than she realizes.

This is another case of love at first sight. Not going to lie that between the cover and the fact that Kailin Gow wrote it, it was on my must have list. Then once again I was sucked in to a fast paced and action packed story. I mean you don't have to wait with this one and are thrown almost right into it! This is a quick and attention grabbing book and a quick one at that.

What if the life you’ve always known has been a lie.
What if you are not really who you think you are?
What would you do if someone told you that you are going to fade?
Celestra Caine’s life has been pretty normal.
She was your average teenage girl who had a hot jock boyfriend and family that loves her.
But on one fateful day all of that would change.
All she ever knew she needed to forget.
Her family has already faded.
Now she needs to fade too.
This would be my first book of Kailin Gow.

I should know by now that Ms Gow’s ending kill me!!! Hahaha but that’s the end, lemme go back. Celestra seems like a normal teenage girl who runs track in high school. Except she isn’t, and she doesn’t even know it! One day, she goes home from school to find her family gone… Just disappeared. And in their place, is Jack. He tells her she needs to Fade… Like fade from existence, because she is in danger. And danger follows them around like a squirrel trying to find nuts!

A while back I read a book called The Serialist, about a man who wrote a variety of YA paranormal romance novels under various pseudonyms. This book seems like it was written by someone like that. It definitely stuck to the YA formula without delving too deeply into any of the characters. The book didn't have an ending so much as a last page. I understand using a cliff-hanger to keep people reading, but this was more like the author just stopped writing. Decent story though.
The concept was very original and while I enjoyed the idea I was very disappointed in the book. Most of my disappointment stems from the length of the book and where it ended. To me this book felt like the first portion of a longer book. It was the establishment of a back story and not really a novel.I felt like I paid far too much for back story. While I am interested in reading the remainder of the story I don't feel like the $$$ is worth it. That really pains me to say because I love dystopia...more
