Now this is what I call a dysfunctional family! Secrets, romance, drama to the max - Someone Else's Life is a story that will make your jaw drop, along with having your life feel especially normal.
Mostly character oriented, this book is deeply emotional, with endless twists that turn it into a true roller coaster ride. I can see it come off as overly dramatic, but I personally really enjoyed getting surprised by the turn of events; never expecting things to get so tragic, so complicated. Rosie' More...

Rosie Kenning lives in Bramberley, England and is seventeen years old. Her mother, Trudie, has just passed away after an eighteen-month long battle with Huntington's disease. Rosie quit school to take care of her mother after she was diagnosed and had the help of her mother's best friend and nurse, Sarah as well as her Nan. Now Rosie is on her own, grieving for her mum and worried about the possibility that she will suffer the same fate as Huntington's disease is hereditary. It's then that Sarah More...

Rosie has just lost her beloved mother, Trudie, to Huntington's disease after an 18 month battle where she was her primary caregiver. Rosie has decided to take the test to see if she will have Huntington's, believing it's better to know than to always wonder. Then she learns that her mother was not her birth mother and she was switched at birth with Trudie's real daughter by a family friend because the other baby was dying. Rosie decides to find her birth mother by tagging along on ex-boyfriend More...

Where do I even begin with this book...
I'd love to start with a plot summary but even if I could keep track of everything that happened I don't think there's enough space to write it all out. There were pregnancies and TV stars and long lost relatives and dramatic airport scenes and debilitating diseases and last minute international flights and people getting hit by cars just to name a few. So basically, if it's happened on a soap opera it probably happened in this book.

Wow, Someone Else's Life completely blew me away. It was so good! The premise is really excellent- and sad! Rosie's mum has died from a disease called Huntington's. I'll be honest and say I knew nothing about Huntington's before I read this book. I'm sure I've heard the name before but I didn't know what it really was or what it did to people and their families. This book was incredibly informative about the disorder and I definitely feel like I learned something from reading it. Besides losing More...

The reception for this book seems to be entirely split in two. One half absolutely loved it; the other found it a huge disappointment. I, unfortunately, stand on the latter side.
'Who needs to go travelling the world when you have Rosie Kenning and her rollercoaster life by your side?' Andy said something along these lines at one point in the book, and he'd be right - about the rollercoaster, I mean. And that isn't a good thing. What the vast majority of the reviewers on here have also found is More...

SUCH a good book, but so sad! I'd cried five times by the time I'd reached page one hundred. I have to admit, though, Andy seems kind of unreal- he's perfect, he puts up with too much. Any real person would have blown up at Rosie much sooner, with all the crap she, and everyone else, put him through. It would take DECADES for anyone to reach a high enough level of maturity and serenity to be able to ignore it; not possible for a boy who's still just a teenager. For the big fight scene, at least, More...

I am absolutely speechless. By far, this is the best book I have read for 2013.
We meet Rosie, a teenager who dropped out of school to take care of her mother because she had Huntington's disease. There is no cure for it, and her mother is now dead. There is a fifty percent chance that she may have it because the disease is hereditary. When she asks her neighbour named Sarah (a close family friend) if she can take the test, Sarah breaks done some life changing news. That Rosie's mother isn't act More...

This book reminded me a lot of a Danielle Steele novel. There were twists and turns happening all over the place. The tears came early for me, and the emotions were up and down all throughout the novel.
Dale does a great job of introducing Huntington’s Disease to the reader. For those of us who are not quite familiar with the disease, the way Dale describes the symptoms, of what it looks like to an outsider who is not aware of what this disease does to the body, was done perfectly. Anyone who rea More...

Don't get me wrong this is a good book; the only problem was it had too many plot changes and twists, that in all honesty didn't need to be there.
Rosie has just lost her beloved mother to Huntington's disease and is just about to see whether she has it herself. When her mother's best friend Auntie Sarah tells her, she wasn't actually her mother's real daughter -she was swapped at birth. (okay at this point I was hooked desperate to know what happens.)

Someone Else's Life is a story full of life, heartbreak, love, and reality. Katie Dale wrote a story so interesting and different, that made it feel like it was real life story. Someone Else's Life is definitely one of the greatest 2012 contemporary novels!

Wow. Really twisted. At first, I thought I wouldn't like this story but as I read it, I'm actually longing to read more. I also like reading from different perspectives. It gets things clearer and actually more interesting. Holly and Rosie are very different and alike at the same time. They are both entangled in a life that weren't theirs but look, they still have a family that loves them no matter what :)

This story immediately captured my attention and made me tear up on several occasions. Poor Rosie! Not only did she just lose her mother, but she finds out that her mother isn't her mother! Now she has no clue who she is and no clue what to move on to when she eventually initiates the "healing process." I didn't like Sarah really, because I didn't think it was her decision to make, but who knows what they would do in a horribly sad situation like that!? I though Sarah was written really well tho More...

Life for Rosie Kennings has been pretty hard the past year as she watched her mother Trudi go through the course of Huntington's Disease and she eventually had to leave school so that she could look after her mother. Katie Dale’s Someone Else’s Life is a riveting story right from the start. It was a midweek evening when I started on this book and thought I would start by reading the first few chapters right before going to sleep. After the first chapter, my evening plan of going to sleep was non-existent. I found myself absorbed by its engaging plot and unforgettable characters. Dale puts together a mix of tragedy, heartbreak, and drama about a girl’s self-discovery voyage in finding her place in this world. More...

Again we have ourselves another author who just can't seem to write "I say/I said". Nope, they always have to "I say angrily" or " I reply absently" or "she grins regretfully".
Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. I'm not talking about that anymore; I've already had my rant (including said-bookisms) with Poison Heart.
This book was crap. There are just under 500 pages and the story is moving so fast. Fast enough that I don't know who's who without someone pointing out who said that. Oh, and don't you worr More...

Someone Else’s Life by Katie Dale. Wow, you’ve got to read this. It’s a young adult book but Rosie is 18 so adults will enjoy it too. Rosie’s mother dies of Huntingdon’s Disease, her father died on the day of her birth. Rosie is terrified she has Huntingdon’s herself as it is hereditary but cannot decide whether to be tested for it or not. Is it better to live knowing you’re going to be ill or take each day as it comes hoping you’ve escaped it? This question runs through the book as other charac More...

When we first meet Rosie, she is standing by her mother’s grave in a beautiful gown and stiletto heels, paying homage to the fashionable, happy, and amazing woman who was her beloved Mom. Rosie’s mother has been taken to heaven after her bout with Huntington’s Disease, and all Rosie can think about is the fact that she may just have the gene that will lead her to the same demise.
Rosie was her mom’s miracle baby to say the least. At forty-two, her mother gave birth to her - the same night her fat More...

Like twisty, turning plots that will keep you on your toes? Well then Someone Else’s Life is for you! I honestly can’t imagine what was going on in Katie Dale’s head as she planned this story or how on earth she kept up with it all but it’s very, very clever. Every few chapters she hits you like a bolt out of the blue with another great twist, leaving me open mouthed.

Someone Else's Life was described to me as a Jodi Picoult novel for Young Adults and that description is totally spot on. It has the all the same qualities of a Jodi novel and was a brilliantly awesome read.
I loved several things about this book
I loved Rosie as a main character and really warmed to her quickly. She has dealt with so much in her recent past and as the differing revelations are unveiled the emotional stresses put on her start piling up thick and fast. Seeing how she deals with the More...

The best quality this book contains is the raw emotion the author is able to portray through the characters. Not much of anything is held back, the reader will truly feel as if he/she is in the middle of the plot.
When Rosie's mother, Trudie, dies from Huntington's Disease, Rosie must make the terrible decision of discovering if she, too, has the gene. However, before she can even take the test, she is told by her mother's best friend and midwife that she cannot possibly have the gene. With furt More...

From the cover you can probably already predict what this book would be like: over-dramatic, life changes everywhere--the cover literally reads "What if your whole life was a lie?"
Rosie finds out she's been switched at birth and is determined to find her birth mother, who kicks her out once she sees her. She then goes to find her birth father, but find out the girl who was supposed to be her actually lived.

One not so little secret leads to another then another then another. So where do I start? There was a lot of drama in this one and things did get a bit much. Both girls found themselves in situations not quite perfect, so I do understand why they felt the way they did, and I do understand the jealousies and insecurities that crept up. Still that one sad situation was permission enough for one or both to act the way they did had me frustrated. They could be so selfish; they could zero in on their More...

I received this book from NetGallery to read and review.
Katie Dale did an amazing job with this book, it is well written and her writing brings out true emotions for all the characters in this story. To me this is a sign of a great author.
So it begins with Rosie who's mother Trudies dies from Huntington's disease, reading Rosie struggles and her loses so she could take care of her mother, the affects of this disease on Rosies' life is heart wrenching.

I wasn't expecting that. I thought this book was going to be about a girl plagued by whether she has Huntington's Disease (I was familiar with HD before I read the book, but they explain it well). It turned out to be so much more, and so thrilling and emotional. Just when you think there cannot be any more revelations, the author drops another bombshell on you. It was very much an emotional ride. I liked Rosie and her maturity with this situation. Holly was annoying and very unfair to Rosie. Lov More...

Imagine the worst, most difficult situation you can think of, make it worse, and then you have the gravity of the situation the characters are facing in this book. They are grappling with identity confusion, death, a terminal, uncuttable illness, teenage pregnancy... oh and the fact that they were switched at birth. Sound like a lot? Well it definitely is. Someone Else's Life is an emotional ride.

I'll admit it, I was attracted to this book because of that gorgeous cover! It just looked like something I would enjoy so I didn't even read what it was about, I just picked it up when I saw it instore. Ok, so I know that's not the best method for choosing books and it's backfired on me in the past but luckily this wasn't one of those times.
