No passion is too decadent and no desire is too exotic at Madame Helene's Pleasure House - an exclusive brothel in Regency England that offers the ultimate in erotic delights...Powerful Seduction: Christian Delornay has observed so many illicit liaisons at his mother's house of pleasure he regards sex as merely an enjoyable pastime, certainly not an act of love. So when a ...more

A review for The Romance Reviews.

Kate Pearce has set a standard for Erotic Historical Romance by which all others will be measured for me. SIMPLY CARNAL is 300 pages of sexual decadence, debauchery, and lust interspersed with a story filled with scandal, betrayal, past hurts, and new love that had me riveted from beginning to end.

SIMPLY CARNAL is the seventh book in the House of Pleasure series and it features Christian Delornay who is Madame Helene's (the proprietress of the House of Pleasure)

I am so bummed! This wasn't at all what I wanted. Yes, it has my sex I love and my HEA, but I just couldn't "get into" it. I'm not very articulate with words, which is why I never really "review" books, but I felt like this story was just... just. However, I like Ms. Pearce and I know that not every book can be perfect for me, so I'll wait patiently for her next one.

Found the heroine too enigmatic. She was dishonest throughout the entire book. I thought the final resolution to her 'mystery' felt muddled and did not seem to jibe with what how much in danger she seemingly was in the early parts of the book.

Also the book wasn't very sexy. The heroine had major sexual issues and I thought the hero 'cured' her a little too easily.

I was very disappointed in every aspect of this book. The plotline involving the mysterious Elizabeth was only mildly interesting. The hero, Christian, meets his half-brother, Richard, for the first time and I thought it was an unbelievable coincidence that Richard was involved in the mystery surrounding Elizabeth. There were about seven sex scenes and, oddly enough, I was only interested in the first one.

We were introduced to a new sex club called Demon Club and I would like to read more about

Well, I certainly screwed up here. Somehow, in my effort to start reading this highly acclaimed series by Kate Pearce, I managed to pick up her latest book instead of her first. And I only just now realised it, after searching the title on goodreads. Good grief!

Now I'm wondering how much backstory I've missed.... regardless, as a Kate Pearce newbie, I found this book ...different, from everything I usually read. And I have to admit I enjoyed it.

As someone who doesn't read erotica (and this is D

3.5 Stars. I wasn't sure what this book was at first but the title should have tipped me off. It is erotica with a bit of romance thrown in.
In the beginning I found it very difficult to read, the main reason being the abuse of the heroine , both in her past and her present.
By the middle of the book I was very intrigued and wanted to find out the secrets she held. I ended up liking the hero towards the end as he finally comes to his senses, moves beyond his past to claim the present and future w

One of the Better Entries in a Solid Historical Erotic Romance Series

Simply Carnal is the latest in Kate Pearce’s prolific and popular House of Pleasure series, set within a private sex club for the elite and high society in early 19th century England. Christian Delornay has all but taken over proprietorship of his mother Helene’s upper class brothel, but being surrounded by sex has left him jaded and cynical. He has no use for relationships and certainly not love, but when mysterious widow Eliz

For anyone following this series (and if you aren’t you really should be), Simply Carnal is Helene’s son, Christian Delornay's story. He's seen so much fornicating in his lifetime that it has ceased to be anything special for him. Elizabeth "Smith" comes to the pleasure house owned by his mother, hoping to meet with Helene. Elizabeth is bedraggled, says she's a widow, and

Ah, finally another dose from House of Pleasure series. I'm so, so happy that I finally grabbed and devoured it to heart's content. I took my time enjoy the book and I'm pleased.

It's Christian's story. If you're one of HOP fans, I'm sure you've learnt about him. He's Madame Helene's son and he is very well-known for his cold-blooded character. He pushed people away from him because he's afraid of fondness. For him, that kind of emotion is somehow lethal. It could hurt worst and perhaps would bri

I received this book as a GoodReads First Reads Giveaway.

I am not quite sure where to begin my review for this book...
Not really sure what to expect, I jumped in and immediately liked the characters. I am generally pulled towards great use of the omniscient narrative - knowing how the characters are struggling with themselves and those around them (when done effectively like this author accomplishes quite nicely), really makes a good story great, the characters a bit more real, and ups the empat

This story just wasn't my kind of story, I'm all for erotic romances, and with kinky sex, but I find there was literally no emotion or romance to this story, it was just sex, and it wasn't really hot, heavy throbbing sex, it was robotic, like some quick pastime. On a positive note I did like some of the witty comments, and there was an air of mystery to the characters, but it really lacked the emotion and excitement I was looking for, and the idea of the main characters sleeping with everyone li ...more

I won this book on Goodreads!! I have had this book for a while hoping to be able to pickup the rest of the series before reading this one. I hate reading books out of order. But since I have been unable to find them in my local bargin book stores, and have not had the funds of my usual book buget, I could not wait any more.

I enjoyed the book and the idea of its storyline. I sometimes I felt like I was missing somthing and it was possibly just because I know I missed the first six stories that

Erotica at its finest. I love all the books in the house of pleasure series. At times i wanted to strangle the heroine for her stubbornness granted she's been through enough to not trust anyone but even after they saved her neck twice she still insisted on secrecy.

I have to admit that I don’t normally read historical romance books, but this story was too hot to miss out on. I actually won a signed copy through Goodreads, and I liked it so much I have to get the rest of this series.

This book was not what I’d expected. The story was intricate with twists and turns I never saw coming. The sex scenes were scorching, with ménages and some rough sex. The characters were well developed and had so much to overcome throughout the story. And the end was very satisf

Another wonderful addition to the Simply series. I really enjoyed this one. Elizabeth and Christian were well written for each other and they just worked as a couple. I liked how Kate Pearce didn't reveal everything about Elizabeth all at once and her evolution worked for me. It was great to see more to Christian's character besides the general pain in the butt that he has been in the previous novels. It seemed like Kate gave us a peak into other characters that she can write about in this one. ...more

My least favorite book in this series so far. It just seemed like both Christian and Elizabeth were too dead inside to have much of a romance, or even have really great sex. Everything seemed so emotionally detached and distant that it was hard to become invested in them as characters or as a couple. I also felt that because of the emotional distance, and all of the convoluted scenarios and back histories, the sex was much too rape-y to really be hot. I felt like I was being told that Elizabeth ...more

I don't like to start a book and not finish it, I nilly did with this one but I kept reading it and found it was alright. I would recommend a lot of other books before this one but would still recommend it. The style of writing is so different to any other book I have read once I got use to that it ended up being alright.

I really liked this story in the House of Pleasure series. The story of Christian and Elizabeth was well written from their introduction until all secrets were revealed in the end. The mystery of Elizabeth 'Smith' kept me interested to see if Christian was going to like what he learned or not. Her secret somewhat paralleled Madame Helene's and I liked that because it brought Christian's past to the forefront. Now he had to deal with his feelings instead of pushing them aside. I liked Elizabeth a ...more

This book just didn't hook my attention the way the others in the series did, and that was disappointing because I has been so looking forward to Christian's story. I actually felt like I had to just get through it (much like assigned reading in school) so that I could get to the next book in the series. I like Christian's character and I see how Elizabeth suits him, but I found her to be tiresome. I also found that their love scenes bordered on abuse and made me uncomfortable- I know their inte ...more

(March) 3.5*. This was good but not great. I have read them all and I think the first two (Simply Sexual - Peter and Simply Sinful-Val) and Simply Insatiable (Minshom's book-talk about taking a villian and making him a great, albeit unusual, hero!) are my favorites! There was an overabundance of sex in here, but the story got kind of lost. If KP had taken out two or three sex scenes and included more story to explain what exactly was Elizabeth's big secret as well as how to help her it would hav ...more

Another great book in a very good series! But again I remind everyone.....it's not for everyone.
On a personal note, as far as my own personal taste, I would have liked for Christopher and Elizabeth to have experimented more in the house itself but that's just me. I still loved how Kate Pearce chose to represent both of them and I definitely LOVED reading of Christopher's personal growth ..... I also feel the end was a bit rushed, well, actually the Epilogue was. But none of these things takes a

3.5. Good addition to this series. I loved Christian and Mrs. Smith was a good match for him. The sex was hot but not as good as I was expecting.
I was fortunate that I had already read Chrisians mum Helene's book. I would suggest you do it will help in understanding this family dynamic.
The over all plot was old and tired but, when the focus is on the h/h and loveable Ambrose and Paul it has a bit of shine.

I am looking forward to reading Ambrose and Paul's stories.

Better than some, not as good as the first ones, especially Blaze's (my favorite). Christian was what I expected and Elizaeth was a good foil for him. There were some unexpected twists which I liked, especially towards the end. Nice to catch up with Paul. Thought there could have been just a bit more to the story at the very end; maybe we will get a little more of an update with the next book.

This book is my least favorite in the series thus far. Christian and Elizabeth (and their issues) grated on my nerves. I skimmed a few chapters in order to complete the book. I could slap both of them, but they might like it.

I bought this book from Kobo.

I have read all the books in this series and have enjoyed most of them. The last one, with Lisette's story, was good, but not as good as previous entries. This one was eally good. Loved reading two complicated characters falling in love despite a bunch of very real obstacles. No novel of stupid misunderstandings here.
Michele Powers
I always enjoy the books in the House of Pleasure series. I didn't much care for the secrecy from the heroine in this story. All of her secrets started to make the her a little TSTL. It was all tied up too fast and too neat at the end. Other than that, it was great. It's fun reading about these reasonably normal people having outrageous sex lives.
Dawn
Well one thing that keeps bugging me in this series is why the entire 'pleasure house' is not afflicted with pox or syphillis. Perhaps that would ruin the plot! That aside I love Christians character, it was good to finally get under his skin. I didn't hugely warm to 'mrs smith' but none the less enjoyed another good book in this series.
Airaseem Perdomo
I liked it but it was missing something. Like everything was there but not used and it just hurry up quickly to conclude and the ending was not what I was expecting. I didn't think Christian grew up but I guess he did in a way. I wasn't feeling it. IDK. On to the next book. It's taking me forever to finish this series.

3.5 stars. I am enjoying this series (only 2 books to go !) I did not like the characters of Christian and Elizabeth as much as the others in the series, so I have not rated this book as high. The writing is excellent and the story was good. The h/h relationship was too cold and unemotional for me to connect with them properly.

NYT and USA Today bestselling author Kate Pearce was born into a large family of girls in England, and spent much of her childhood living very happily in a dream world. Despite being told that she really needed to 'get with the program', she graduated from the University College of Wales with an honors degree in history.

A move to the USA finally allowed her to fulfill her dreams and sit down and w
