A superb set of wide-ranging essays, written for various publications between 1950 and 1960. The pieces on Rashomon, Garbo/Barrymore/Valentino, 3D movies and the Human Image in cinema are a real find, certainly a proof that what we expect from film art these days is considerably lower than what was in Tyler's own time (or Tyler himself, at least).
