That Boy is a contemporary romance about falling in love with the boys next door.

You know, being friends with two cute boys does have its benefits.

There's Danny. Danny is a golden boy in every way. He has dreamy blue eyes and blonde hair that always looks perfect, even when it’s windblown or been stuck under a football helmet. He’s the boy every girl crushes on. The boy I...more

This book taught me 3 things:

1. That Strip football is the best sport EVER.

"Your shirt or a shoe?”
That boy gets a nasty look on his face, but then the look changes and he smiles a wide, slightly evil smile at me.
Devil Danny is back, I think, and he's standing right in front of me.
I glance at Lisa. She can barely contain her excitement. I mean this is what she has been out here braving the cold for. Danny stands in front of me and very, very slowly pulls his T-shirt up over his chest. He is doi...more

I need to read something super sweet and wonderful and this fits the bill! <3 New review after my re-read!

I just want to say that this book was so good. It was utterly amazing. I didn't want to change a thing (and I usually have plenty of opinions). I was just so happy to sit back and let Jillian Dodd take me for a wonderful trip. I want to put posters up: you have to experience this little gem.

I know that there are do many good reviews of this book but I would never ever imagined that this w...more

This hilarious story begins through the perspective of Jadyn, a 4th grade tomboy, who is best friends with Phillip, the boy next door. Which is nice because he likes throwing a ball around and doing fun non-girly stuff. Although, not long after, a new boy named, Danny, who's mean and thinks football should only be played by boys...hummph!, moves in down the street. So not cool! It takes a couple of days, but Jadyn finally convinces Danny, GIRLS CAN PLAY FOOTBALL TOO and soon, she, Phillip and D...more

THAT BOY really gets to you - I mean the book and well, that boy :-) Which boy? Well, both of them - I can't choose which one I want her to end up with...choices, choices...

***Maybe I should wait to write a review - when I am not feeling quite so giddy about it - the characters were just awesome and the story was told in such a way that you really get to know them like you are part of their lives! As many naughty books as I usually read, this was refreshingly sweet. I found myself half expecting...more

That Boy Book Trailer

15th book of 2013

I've been eyeing this book for quite a long time but was a little reluctant to read it since, you see, it involved two boys. You know how I avoid love triangles because it definitely give me headaches and heartaches. And well, I'm scared I might fall for the wrong one and end up being disappointed. BUT all the reviews I see were quite contradicting what I was thinking, not one was actually complaining about a love triangle because, really now that I've read it, there wasn't actually any love tri...more

4.5 stars! That Boy is one of those stories that picks up momentum quickly, allowing you to refreshingly dive right in. It was sweet, tender, completely HILARIOUS, and it hooked me instantly!

The story is written in the intimate and sort of choppy style of a diary. It begins with the end; a current moment of impact in the life of Jadyn (JJ) Reynolds. It then rewinds to JJ's childhood, filling in all the details of her life leading up to that intense moment-- as we learn just exactly who "That Boy...more

I love stories that begin with the final explosive scene. I love the anticipation and guessing that takes place throughout the entire book - how did they get there... and is that The End The End? Or the beginning of The End? In this case, we spend the entire book wondering which boy - Phillip or Danny - is that boy... the one who wins JJ's heart, only to screw things up at the end. (Or did he?)

Written like journal entries, That Boy makes the reader feel like a cross between a friend getting all...more

This book is a double treat! Two hot guy as BFF!!WOW!!!♥♥♥

I love that Danny & Phillip have two different personalities & no serious jealousy thing happened that leads to violence (LOL), just a light love story. Actually i think most love story is on the end part but you don't want to miss the first part coz that will give you an option on who you'll bet your cards between this two hottie.☺

Danny is much more on the Mr. Popular, flirty, and a make out buddy of JJ. While Phillip is the Princ...more

I don’t have enough words to express how many triangle YA books I have read in the past two years, to say I am beyond over the theme is a major understatement. To paraphrase Jillian Dodd I am only reading “that book”; You know the book that has you clicking buy on Amazon before you are finished reading the synopsis. I know an author can write when I am annoyed at the choices the characters are making and I still keep reading to find out if it works out. You are with JJ through all her firsts and...more

GODDDD!!!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!!!! THIS IS A MASTERIECE!!!!! I'M SO SPEECHLESS!!!!!

(Which means i'm not going to make my full review right now but i'll wait until i calm down a little. xP)

I'm not that calmed down right now, still so emotional about the book but i'm going to write the review, though!

The Cover :

I'm generally not the kind of person to judge a book by its cover. So if you do, i advise you not to do it with that book cuz despite the cover, (In fact, i find this cover kind of cute, but...more

“How come a boy can be so stupid, but a Daddy, who actually used to be a BOY himself, can be so wonderful?”

4 Stars.

What an adrobale book!

Told by Jayden (JJ, Jay, Princess,) in a diary type of story. She has known Phillip her whole life, he's her best friend and neighbor. Danny moves in across the street a few years later. They become a trio of best buddies. The story pretty much follows them 3 all through grade school and college.

I fell in love with this book right away. I enjoyed her little...more

This book is so incredibly adorable that I'm not quite sure how to put it into words.

There's a bit of everything: happiness, heartbreak, swooning, chemistry, cheering for this boy and then cheering for that boy, witty banter and the best friend a girl could wish for. This book made me smile, laugh out loud (a lot), cry sad tears and happy ones. I was reading this while taking a break at a café and the woman there asked: "What book is it? You keep on smiling and smiling."

And I suppose I did. Some...more

Okay I 've got to say this because if I can't.. then I'll probably explode from all this twisted emotions that's wrapping on my mind. So here goes..

WOW! This story makes my heart & tummy go squishy, cracky, and even teary that I even flat out cried for two times. First, when JJ's parents died. Second, Phillip's proposal and JJ's crazy stage announcement.
"But then, Phillip reminded me of something that happened so long ago, I had completely forgotten it. He reminded of when we were ten, and h...more

I don't know where to start.
The story is SO funny, pleasant, lovely, sweet, cute heartbroken, beautiful, thrilling... Well I can't think in more compliments right now, but it was sooo damn good!

It started with The End, as in the last chapter. Really! It's like the author gives you the biggest spoiler ever! hahahaha Actually, it was more like a Prologue, I think.
This book hasn't any real chapter, where was suppose to be the "chapter" thing, was scribbles that Jadyn did with some... information...more

That Boy by Jillian Todd is one of the cutest and fun Young Adult Novels I have ever read! I laughed out loud reading at the characters who I adored. That Boy has it all, during reading I laughed, I cried, I was happy, and sad all in one. I am still in shock over one particular scene I did not see coming.

That Boy is written in past to present format, I sometimes find this format confusing but I love this style of writing for That Boy. I love that...more

O.k., so I decided to ‘challenge’ myself a little bit when I picked this book up, because:
1. I like YA literature, but the book really has to be good (plot, characters)= no immature/spoiled/whiney/boring brats allowed, or it will lose my attention as fast as you can say “chapter 2”
2. Not a big fan of LOVE TRIANGLES, SQUARES etc.- all that drama:” who should I pick or why can’t I keep them both?” starts to annoy-the-hell-out-of-me after awhile

And this book has it both: it’s a YA and has a love tr...more

Awww! That Boy was such a sweet read. I think I'm still swooning right now.

The first sentence in the book had me intrigued, and from the first chapter, I knew I was going to like the book. And I fell in love with Jillian Dodd as an author when I read the next two chapters and can see myself as this fourth- and then fifth-grader. "How can a boy be so stupid, but a Daddy, who actually used to be a boy himself, can be so wonderful?" How cute is that line!?!

The book left me with a silly grin on my f...more

This was just what I was looking for. It starts out like a child's diary, and you go on this journey of these three kids. One girl, two boys. And what a journey it is as they go from children to adults. The dynamic between these 3 is beautiful. And one point I'm thinking how does she choose?? By the end of the book in thinking how do you NOT choose him?? I love the story of how they came to be and the love loss and relationships. I was impressed after reading t...more

It was a nice/sweet story. It wasnt as cliche as I thought it would be. Dodd took a typical storyline and shook it up. So even though you know what's going on, you're still emotionally invested.

And the fact that I see myself in JJ and know I need a Prince... :-)

I've been here for you all along. I've listened to you cry about other guys, I rescue you, take care of you when you're sick, hug you when you're sad, tell you you're beautiful when you look terrible.

My sister recommended That Boy to me and I’ll admit I had reservations. I didn’t read the summary, but I was told that it was about two guys liking the same girl and both guys are great. So it doesn’t matter who she ends up with.

The thing with me… I am all for love triangles, but I am not f...more

What the hell?!!!!

That's JJ's mantra after all, "what the hell." I'm so happy I picked up this book. It made me a very very happy girl. This book was a surprise hit for me. It was a unique story about a girl and her two best friends, Phillip & Daniel, and which of these boys is That Boy, the boy she eventually ends up with. The way this book was written, it was like reading JJ's diary, with illustrations and all (a very cute touch that just added to it's charm). The book started of...more

Rating 3.5 stars. I was enjoying this book quite a bit then it dragged on and on and that brought down my rating. We see the heroine JJ as a kid, her best friend Philip and eventual friendship with Danny and how they go through their teenager years together , with Danny and JJ many times almost starting something but pulling back. We see her lose her parents , go to college and her dating life. To me it was obvious that there was something between her and Philip from the start, that guy would be...more
