I just finished this last night. I picked it up because we (okay, me, but there were others in the group egging me on) were making fun of the cover in another thread...then things kinda' got a looooooooot out of hand and I ended up downloading it just to see how bad things could get.

(*ahem*) I now have a sort-of answer, and a half-way decent analogy (but I reserve the right to modify said analogy in the future).

Answer: Bad. Very bad. But I give the author this: it was an interesting idea.
Analogy...more

I had to think for a few days about what I really wanted to say about this book. I would like to tell the author to tone down the flowery language. Teenagers don't talk that way-heck, I don't think anyone does. And some of the language was way over the top-the misuse of many many words was rampant. "His iPod engulfed his arm." Good gracious, I think he'd better get the heck away from that thing before it's too late! BUT having said all of that, I admit-I couldn't put the thing down all weekend....more

I want to go on record as 3.5, as opposed to 3.

Do you know what a vampeen is? Neither did I, but you can find out more in Christin Lovell’s book, The Diary of a Vampeen, the first book in The Vampire Chronicles. I bet you might be thinking a vampeen as something to do with a vampire. You’d be close and know as much as our heroine Lexi knows at the start of the tale. Spoiler alert: this is a book aimed at young teens. It is okay if you read it. No one will know you downloaded it to your Kindle. I...more

This book falls short on so many levels. The dialogue is not organic and outdated/unrealistic. Paired with the dialogue, the characters come across as cartoony that have no meaningful substance. I didn't like any of them, especially the main character.

The main girl's actions and thoughts weren't justified to me. She's overweight but it's not explained why. Her parents are in shape, she seems to eat right, she has not problems at home that would suggest she was "eating her feelings". She's just h...more

I really didn't like this book, at all! It was yet another twilight ripoff, and twilight is definitely something that can't be pulled off twice. I didn't like the message either. Before she becomes a vampire (or vampeen if we're being specific), she calls herself fat and acne ridden, she has low and fragile self esteem. Then one day she wakes up and suddenly she's beautiful and people treat her much better, and she literally says, her life is perfect. I feel like the message I got from this book...more

I don't know what everyone else is talking about. yes the mc has some body image issues but, to me that makes her more real. to those reviewers that claim Lexi's life is perfect after her transformation into a vampeen must not have been reading the same book. for Pete's sake people it's a ya romance. Lexi does have conflict her human boyfriend she starts off with shows a progressively destructive jealous streak as the book progresses. she is being stalked by a vampire hoping to end her existence...more

In Diary of a Vampeen, Christin Lovell introduces us to another "Vampire" species. This particular species is part human...part vampire.

Lexi meets Kellan and they fall in love...actually they are "soul mates". Really a sixteen year old with a "soul mate". Anyway, this seems to be a romance with vampire tendencies. We even have a vampire fight thrown in for good measure. Yes, a vampire called Kiera tries to kill Lexi after her transformation, but alas, Lexi wins that battle.

Most of the antics and...more

No.just no!!!! Don't do it! I disliked this for many reasons....
1.instalove/soulmates....sorry for you believers out there....I believe in true love and amazing things but that is freaking CRAP! Seriously, idiotic. You are telling me that you've known him for a week and you are deeply in love with him and have never felt this way before? Well good luck with that. Have fun.
2.so. she's unattractive and fat and then become gorgeous and skinny? ....you know what? That's stupid. Period. I am a strong...more

I wouldn't say this book was a complete waste of my time. The overall story was enjoyable enough and I found myself liking the characters, even, to an extent, although the main is a bit of a drama queen who overly flips out for no reason even though she's repeatedly said to be overanalytical.

My primary issues with this book, as someone who is a grammar cop/English major minded, included the grammar and the occasional slips between past and present tense. Granted, I am certain all authors go thr...more

It took me a while to compose a review because I really had a hard time coming up with anything to say about the book. I downloaded this book as a freebie from Amazon but I really wish I hadn't. Honestly, I didn't like this book. Although I considered it's plot interesting I still couldn't help but feel a strong urge to stop reading and delete the e-book every time Lexi had a dialogue. I didn't even know that a vampeen is supposed to be a cross between a human and a vampire. I thought it meant v...more

I'd give this a 2 or a 2.5.

The book is extremely slow going and way too wordy. The wordiness actually drove me crazy. A lot of what was said could have been said in the exact same way but without all the extra babble in there.

There were times I didn't want to continue, and felt like skimming to get to a 'good' part. I didn't do that, but definitely wanted to many times.

The soulmate thing with Kellan is hard to believe. Like they 'became' soulmates while they were kissing and she pushed herself o...more

I didn't think this was too bad. Very cheesy at times though. I also didn't like the whole concept of the story. An ugly, fat girl who magically wakes up being skinny and beautiful? And then of course that's when Kellan is all the more interested in her, whereas Mike cared/loved her prior to the transformation.

Lexie's best friend...how does she not get Lexie to spill the beans when it comes to the new look? I mean everyone's making it sound like she's a completely different person. Then just le...more

This one started as a good read at the beginning but it all went wrong when the highlight of the story appeared to be the transformation from a pimply fat girl with glasses to a skinny gorgeous girl in designer clothes over night without breaking a sweat. O.M.G.! I know it's every girl's dream but it's just not believable. Also making her boyfriend look like a possessive asshole is just low. She's the one that cheated on him with the hot guy but to make it look ok the author decided to make the...more

***SPOILER ALERT***

Don't read unless you want to know please!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Alexa (Lexi): Female protagonist.

Kellan: Male protagonist.

First, you will know what to expect when you read the followings:

"You mean I don't smell good to you?"I was a bit saddened by the thought - What was wrong with me?! I was sad that I didn't smell appetizing to a vampire?! I was losing it.

"I hope I didn't have to abandon her as Jacob did with Bella until she figured out the reality. Bella was allowed to discov...more

Considering that the book description itself tells you who Lexi really is and what she'll become on her birthday, it took until 45% through to have any talk of it and the change didn't happen til nearly the 60% mark. A major weakness for this book.
Multiple things ended up bothering me and I almost feel I'm being generous with the rating. It wasn't the worst I've seen as far as grammar goes, but it could have been cleaned up more. Lex would mention that she was going to do something, but it came...more

This book is great, i enjoyed reading this book because it changed my opinion on the mythical creature the vampire. The book told the proccess of becoming a vampire through the main characters experience. the book was very detailed and at the same time had high school drama that every teenager has to go through. over all this was an increadible book.

What?!?! Don't judge me! It was free!
Okay, so... I am, admittedly, a grammar (punctuation, what have you) snob. I really liked this book, and would love to be able to give it four stars, but between the bad (or completely lacking) punctuation, sentences that didn't make a bit of sense, and words that were misspelled, I just can't do it. The mistakes were oftentimes very distracting.
I really enjoyed the story... It was a new take on an old idea and it had the potential to be very engaging. The c...more

This is a page turning novel which is YA. Alexa is a teenager who thinks of herself as an underdog with her boyfriend Mike and her best friend Mel. But when a new student comes she feels this strong pull to him which causes her guilt because she is with Mike. Eventually her and Kellan become friends and he tells her a secret about how their pasts are connected... how she is a vampeen (cross between a human and a vampire)! With this secret a whole new world is opened up to her. A pysocpathic Vamp...more

Not really sure why I couldn't stop reading it. I think maybe it was because I was holding out hope it would get better. There were numerous spelling and grammatical errors throughout and the coining of the word Vampeen just sounds silly to me. Also, there were to many references and situations that had me thinking back to the twilight saga books. I wonder if Stephanie has heard of these books.
I got lost a few times and some of the situations just seemed too cookie cutter and not enough detail...more

I would say that at first I thought it was going to be another twilight or vampire diaries. After reading the first chapter I was hooked. The character development made you feel that you were there with Lexi and Mel going through what they were experiencing. The plot twists had me keep guessing and surprised throughout the whole book. It truly was an enjoyable read with heart wrenching scenes and a familiarity that made you love all the characters. There was a character that everyone could relat...more

I really like this book... It was a refreshing new side to the vamp world. The way she makes her main character to be insecure just like a normal girl would be, and the way the friendship really stood there no matter what, was something I normally don't see on other books. It was funny, yet intense. I was surprise she made Lexi be a very strong woman, and she wasn't a "OMG I need someone to protect me, cuz I'm helpless" girl. it was a really true change, from insecure normal teenager to a don't...more

I enjoyed the premise of this story--an interesting twist on the vampire mythos. The characters were well-written, as was the story arc. What hindered my reading was the plethora of blatant grammatical errors. I used to work as a freelance copy editor, so I know that I tend to pay more attention to those details than others might....but the mistakes in this story REALLY derailed my ability to enjoy the book. Very intrusive things, like the use of the wrong word in a sentence. An example: "No ind...more

I love paranormal young adult books, and I wanted to love this one. Unfortunately, I couldn't. I struggled to read the entire novel.

It was hard for me to understand why the author used fictional characters (from Twilight) to enhance the reality of her own fictional characters as though Edward and Bella weren't real, but her characters were.

In addition, this book needs a thorough round of edits. The author constantly switched tenses from past to present tense, and there were incorrect words used...more

I loved this book. All though it was loosely based on twilight (which I also loved) there were allot of differences in the book. For example Christin Lovell introduced a new species of vampire a 'Vampeen', half human - half vampire. Christin Lovell changed the view of vampires and vampeens. I couldn't put the book down, it was a great read and for a free book it is amazing. Most free books are short or non-interesting but this one was great. This is one of my favourite vampire books (I have read...more

The basic premise of the story is very good. The execution is imperfect. The author rushed the action occasionally to the detriment of character development. Despite this, I really liked the characters; I wanted to get to know them better.
I had a hard time with Lexi I becoming perfect physically with her transformation. I wish more time had been devoted to how disconcerting the physical changes were for her.
I read the Kindle edition of this and there were several editing errors that were glaring...more

This was a good read with an excellent cover. I am always a sucker for great cover art and I could not beat the price of free from amazon. These were already great reasons to give the book a try but even from the first chapter my attention was held and I read this book in less than a day. It is a good twist to the vampire story and there are so many out there it is getting harder and harder to be original. I felt that Christin Lovell was able to get a different feel for vampires while still stay...more

This book is about 15 year old Alexa Jackson or Lexi. SHe is going to turn 16 in a few days she will become a vampeen. She knew nothing about her hEritage until a boy named Kellan comes as an exchange student. They talk and get to know each other and Alexa asKs about his family. I loved this book!!! Most people who read twilight assume that all vampire romance books are to much like twilight. But I read this book and laughed and understood the morel of the story!!! Christin Lovell included twilight and true blood in her book in a way that had me giggling and thinking to myself, if I was in this girls shoes that is exactly what I would say. Now don't get me wrong I loved the twilight series and nothing compares to them, but Christin didn't even try to write her book like...more

I loved this book. it was very interesting and had a cool twist to the vamp world. I must say that i likes the whole chubby girl getting hot in the end but i liked mike and i wasnt happy with the way they ended. but of course Kellar was ubber hot but still Mike was sweet. I was kinda frustrated with her lack of trust in her friend but im sure most people would have felt the same. I loved reading about her love for Kellar blossom and how she kept her humanity. Im keeping an eye out for the next i...more

This was a fun read. Honestly, I couldn't put it down. A fresh new twist on the vampire books using a half vampire half human character. I love her relationships with her parents, her best friend (Mel), and the interesting relationship with Mike and Kellen. The twists and turns with the Mike and Kellan relationship keep you guessing.

The transformation is a great twist also. Using a girl that has body issues and self esteem issues makes the transformation feel new. I can't wait to see what happen...more

I was born and raised in Charleston, SC, but now live in the hottest place on earth: Orlando, FL. I have three beautiful children who keep me running non-stop. When I'm not juggling life and kids, you'll find me huddled away somewhere writing my next book or happily reading someone else's. Like most authors I've come across, I'm a coffee addict, own far too many books than I can fit on my shelves,...more
