I just finished this last night. I picked it up because we (okay, me, but there were others in the group egging me on) were making fun of the cover in another thread...then things kinda' got a looooooooot out of hand and I ended up downloading it just to see how bad things could get.

(*ahem*) I now have a sort-of answer, and a half-way decent analogy (but I reserve the right to modify said analogy in the future).

Answer: Bad. Very bad. But I give the author this: it was an interesting idea.

I had to think for a few days about what I really wanted to say about this book. I would like to tell the author to tone down the flowery language. Teenagers don't talk that way-heck, I don't think anyone does. And some of the language was way over the top-the misuse of many many words was rampant. "His iPod engulfed his arm." Good gracious, I think he'd better get the heck away from that thing before it's too late! BUT having said all of that, I admit-I couldn't put the thing down all weekend....more I had to think for a few days about what I really wanted to say about this book. I married a brooding male character-they are my weakness. I like Kellan. But I also liked Mike. I liked Mike a lot. I felt so sorry for the guy and found myself completely disgusted with Lexi for the way she was treating him (hey, I really dig this other guy, but I'll make out with you anyway). She really needed to break up with him and not lead him on-but, they are teenagers, so what the heck? Maybe that is the way she would have treated him. I can't expect any of them to do the mature thing. There did need to be a convenient way to get rid of Mike and I wondered how the author was going to handle that. The complete 180 of his personality was incredible. No way, I thought. He went from a sweet loving kid to being willing to see her die before someone else would have her. But my greatest disappointment was in Lexi herself. She didn't balk at spending what, for most of us, would have been 6 month's worth of mortgage payments on a new wardrobe, but when she found out that donated blood from the blood bank would cost her (very wealthy) family $1400 a month, she decides it would be more economical to start attacking joggers in the park. The cost was prohibitive. And her parents thought this was fine, too. Kellan went along to make sure she didn't kill the guy, so I guess that was supposed to make it ok. I actually think this author has real potential. She needs to listen honestly to everything said in all of the reviews and take that imagination of hers and the skill she really does have and work it into the rest of her books. (less)

I bet you might be thinking a vampeen as something to do with a vampire. You’d be close and know as much as our heroine Lexi knows at the start of the tale. Spoiler alert: this is a book aimed at young teens. It is okay if you read it. No one will know you downloaded it to your Kindle. It’s just a simple explanation why everyone is either sixteen or about to become that magical age.

Sixteen is a magical age if you’re a vampeen because all your physical imperfections melt away. You become the prom and homecoming queen overnight. What American girl wouldn’t want to be a size four and have perfect skin? Almost none, which makes the premise so intriguing to teenage girls if all they care about, is their physical appearance. However, wait, you can see better in the dark, run faster, kick butt majorly. Take that you annoying cheerleader who made in fun of Lexi in her non-vampeen state.

Lexi, our heroine, is a little confused if she wants all that perfection at once. Will it cause her to turn from her human boyfriend, and best friend Mel? Sometimes it might be hard to explain why you want your steak very rare. Add to stress of literally becoming a new person overnight, at the grand age of sixteen, Lexi has to pick out if she wants her first to be human or vampire. It makes a big difference because she has to stay with that choice the rest of her life, which could be a very long time.

Now to the actual characters, Lexi and Vampire Kellam have some good chemistry going on. I find Lexi’s current human boyfriend, a lovable doofus. Her friend Mel doesn’t work on so many levels. Her parents are the kind that encourages her boyfriend to spend time alone with their daughter in hope she’ll pick him as a lover. I noticed a trend in YA books, the type of parents that only exist in a teen’s imagination, but most mothers aren’t vampeen either.

Diary of a Vampeen is similar to Twilight and should appeal to the same fans. A very light read has teens only worried about their looks, sexuality, and cars. Now most folks might think that is all teens think about, but I happen to have a higher opinion. If you’re into actual vampire folklore, then this isn’t the book for you. Simple teen angst with sexy vampires thrown in, then it’s the book for you. You’ll even find out what a vampeen is.

This book falls short on so many levels. The dialogue is not organic and outdated/unrealistic. Paired with the dialogue, the characters come across as cartoony that have no meaningful substance. I didn't like any of them, especially the main character.

The main girl's actions and thoughts weren't justified to me. She's overweight but it's not explained why. There's nothing wrong with an anti-hero but I found nothing to like about her.

The romance was just plain predictable and I cringed as it unfolded.

The story is extremely slow. The author takes way too long to start up events and mentions details about the characters too late in the story. Why did you mention she wears tennis shoes later on? You need to sprinkle details ahead of time or else the reader is going to assume whatever they want and then be surprised (and irritated) when you finally decide to mention them. Similarly, there is too much of nothing going on to begin with. It's mostly riddled with the MC's thoughts over the two guys she "fawns" over, mixed with so much information that has no point in moving the character/story forward.

The writing is not pleasing either. It's first POV so granted, I don't expect much from a teenager POV but it was almost all tell and no show. The author also uses too many dialogue tags, which is a big no-no in standard writing. Instead of saying ", he said", the author puts, "he scolded", "I teased", etc. This goes on throughout the entire story and is not necessary. It strips away a lot from the story.

I will say the story had potential. I thought the author could take certain actions I found silly and then prove me wrong and show that it had meaning to the character. However, this never happened.

I would not recommend this to anyone. (less)

I really didn't like this book, at all! It was yet another twilight ripoff, and twilight is definitely something that can't be pulled off twice. I didn't like the message either. Before she becomes a vampire (or vampeen if we're being specific), she calls herself fat and acne ridden, she has low and fragile self esteem. Then one day she wakes up and suddenly she's beautiful and people treat her much better, and she literally says, her life is perfect. I feel like the message I got from this book...more

I don't know what everyone else is talking about. yes the mc has some body image issues but, to me that makes her more real. to those reviewers that claim Lexi's life is perfect after her transformation into a vampeen must not have been reading the same book. for Pete's sake people it's a ya romance. Lexi does have conflict her human boyfriend she starts off with shows a progressively destructive jealous streak as the book progresses. she is being stalked by a vampire hoping to end her existence...more

In Diary of a Vampeen, Christin Lovell introduces us to another "Vampire" species. This particular species is part human...part vampire.

Lexi meets Kellan and they fall in love...actually they are "soul mates". Really a sixteen year old with a "soul mate". Anyway, this seems to be a romance with vampire tendencies. We even have a vampire fight thrown in for good measure. Yes, a vampire called Kiera tries to kill Lexi after her transformation, but alas, Lexi wins that battle.

No.just no!!!! Don't do it! I disliked this for many reasons....
1.instalove/soulmates....sorry for you believers out there....I believe in true love and amazing things but that is freaking CRAP! Seriously,idiotic. I wouldn't say this book was a complete waste of my time. The overall story was enjoyable enough and I found myself liking the characters, even, to an extent, although the main is a bit of a drama queen who overly flips out for no reason even though she's repeatedly said to be overanalytical.

I'd give this a 2 or a 2.5.

The book is extremely slow going and way too wordy. The wordiness actually drove me crazy. A lot of what was said could have been said in the exact same way but without all the extra babble in there.

There were times I didn't want to continue, and felt like skimming to get to a 'good' part. I didn't do that, but definitely wanted to many times.

I didn't really understand why Alexa was so mean to Mike in the end. During her 'vacation' she doesn't pick up when he calls or anything? Then, when they're face to face he's suddenly abusive? That was just mean and so wrong!

The "O.M.G" statements that were throughout the book, need I say more?

Ok I got that Jason and whoever her name was, were the top kids in the high school. The football captain and cheerleader girl (haha). What exactly was the big deal with Jason though? I mean he had, I guess, made fun of Alexa's looks but still. Her and her BFF seemed all eager wondering if he was going to be at Alexa's b-day or not.

And at the end when Mike is acting all crazy. Keira had told him about vampires and whatnot and she says that she posted the truth on the networking sites. Um...haha. Did she really think that by her telling whoever that Alexia was a vampeen, people would actually believe? Very stupid. Don't get why she told Mike either.

Here's the best part. When Lexie and Kellan are making out, they talk to each other telepathically. Right!...because when you're supposedly all 'into it' (the make out session that is), you can still speak clearly...even if it's in your head.

Lastly, the cover. Please don't tell me that's suppose to be Lexie? (less)

This one started as a good read at the beginning but it all went wrong when the highlight of the story appeared to be the transformation from a pimply fat girl with glasses to a skinny gorgeous girl in designer clothes over night without breaking a sweat. Considering that the book description itself tells you who Lexi really is and what she'll become on her birthday, it took until 45% through to have any talk of it and the change didn't happen til nearly the 60% mark. A major weakness for this book.

This book is great, i enjoyed reading this book because it changed my opinion on the mythical creature the vampire. The book told the proccess of becoming a vampire through the main characters experience. the book was very detailed and at the same time had high school drama that every teenager has to go through. over all this was an increadible book.

Okay, so... I am, admittedly, a grammar (punctuation, what have you) snob. I really liked this book, and would love to be able to give it four stars, but between the bad (or completely lacking) punctuation, sentences that didn't make a bit of sense, and words that were misspelled, I just can't do it. The mistakes were oftentimes very distracting.

Not really sure why I couldn't stop reading it. I think maybe it was because I was holding out hope it would get better. There were numerous spelling and grammatical errors throughout and the coining of the word Vampeen just sounds silly to me. Also, there were to many references and situations that had me thinking back to the twilight saga books. I wonder if Stephanie has heard of these books.

I would say that at first I thought it was going to be another twilight or vampire diaries. After reading the first chapter I was hooked. The character development made you feel that you were there with Lexi and Mel going through what they were experiencing. The plot twists had me keep guessing and surprised throughout the whole book. I enjoyed the premise of this story--an interesting twist on the vampire mythos. The characters were well-written, as was the story arc. What hindered my reading was the plethora of blatant grammatical errors. I used to work as a freelance copy editor, so I know that I tend to pay more attention to those details than others might....but the mistakes in this story REALLY derailed my ability to enjoy the book. I love paranormal young adult books, and I wanted to love this one. Unfortunately, I couldn't. I struggled to read the entire novel.

It was hard for me to understand why the author used fictional characters (from Twilight) to enhance the reality of her own fictional characters as though Edward and Bella weren't real, but her characters were.

The basic premise of the story is very good. The execution is imperfect. The author rushed the action occasionally to the detriment of character development. Despite this, I really liked the characters; I wanted to get to know them better.
I had a hard time with Lexi I becoming perfect physically with her transformation. I wish more time had been devoted to how disconcerting the physical changes were for her.

This was a good read with an excellent cover. I am always a sucker for great cover art and I could not beat the price of free from amazon. I loved this book!!! Most people who read twilight assume that all vampire romance books are to much like twilight. But I read this book and laughed and understood the morel of the story!!! I loved this book. it was very interesting and had a cool twist to the vamp world. This was a fun read. Honestly, I couldn't put it down. A fresh new twist on the vampire books using a half vampire half human character. I love her relationships with her parents, her best friend (Mel), and the interesting relationship with Mike and Kellen. The twists and turns with the Mike and Kellan relationship keep you guessing.

The transformation is a great twist also. Using a girl that has body issues and self esteem issues makes the transformation feel new. I can't wait to see what happen...more
