WOW I just LOVED this book. I stayed up till 6 am reading because I could NOT put it down. This is the perfect read for when you're in cheesy moods and wanna read one of those reads with the PERFECT HEA. I can understand why some rated it lower though, but as I was just in this kind of mood, feeling all mellow, LOL, I just adore this read.

I really enjoyed this book. Mac is the easy going, loyal beta hero and Maddie, is the down on her luck heroine (with baby in tow). Things move along very fast in this story, it's a sweet fantasy romance. Mac falls in love at first sight and saves "the day" for our heroine. Nothing wrong with that every once in a while! :)

Every once in a while I need a book like Maid for Love because my brain needs a break from the H and h fighting vampire wars, running from a drug lord, or waiting for the rake to realize he is in love. Maid for Love has little in the way of conflict, in fact I kept waiting for something gut wrenching to happen but it never came. This book is simply about two very nice people who fall in love and I found it sweet and heartwarming.

This is one of those books that I really think that you have to read with either a) a fair amount of disbelief suspended or b)you just love the romance fantasy of a basic Cinderella story.

Mac McCarthy is from a wealthy family who are well known and liked on a small New England island.

Maddie Chester lives on the same island but is of a decidedly less golden family. She was tormented in high school for developing early. And one lie by one guy resulted in a tarnished reputation that followed her into adulthood. She is either ignored or shunned by most of the townspeople, her mother is in jail and she is given the worst of the clean up jobs as the maid in the inn Mac's family owns.

When Mac comes back home for an enforced vacation, he bumps into Maddie precipitating an accident that results in Maddie's bike (her lone transportation) getting destroyed and causing her injury.

Mac wants to make it right so he decides he is going to help Maddie out while she is recovering.

The set up is fine. The writing is good and the storytelling flows quickly and easily. This is one of those contemporary romances that just goes down smoothly and is tailor made for a light summer read.

My issues, and why I can't give this more than 3-stars, has to do with credulity. I know many readers will be perfectly fine with the swiftness of the romance and the way Mac swoops in and makes everything just right for Maddy in a matter of weeks. That's fine. That is where the fantasy part of the romance comes in. For a lot of romance readers this is catnip and this book would be right up their alley.

I am not one of them though. I like a little more grit sometimes with my books. I like Marie Force's writing style and I like the bones of story if not necessarily all the meat of it. I also just can't get past the super sticky sweetness of some of it or my skepticism at the trajectory of the romance.

Mac is a long-time confirmed bachelor who really has no desire to be back home. Yet he bumps into Maddie, takes her home, cleans her up, moves into her house, takes care of her kid, takes over her cleaning shift at the inn, and takes over her duties as a day care helper. And this is all just within the first day he gets back home. Within the first week he and Maddie are madly in love and within weeks after that he has completely restored her tarnished reputation.

This is pure Prince Charming fantasy. It works on some levels and on others it simply doesn't.

I heartily recommend it for readers who really like that in their stories.

Other readers however, if you don't like love-at-first sight stories or want a it more meat with your stories this one may not work completely for you.(less)

Maid for Love is the first book in a new series (The McCarthys of Gansett Island) by Marie Force. Starting this book, I was curious but not very hopeful because I usually prefer her romantic-suspense novels. I was nicely surprised by this funny, romantic and delicious Cinderella story.

Maddie Chester is a maid for the McCarthy family hotel on Gansett Island. She is basically considered the town tramp and when she gives birth to her son and noone knows who the father is, the rumors starts spreading even more vigorously. She desperately wants to start a new life with her son and escape all the false accusations.

Mac McCarthy is the golden boy of the family and has a flourishing business in Miami, FL. He is overworked and tired and after having a break-down feels pretty much burnt out. On doctor's orders he decides to take an extended vacation at the family hotel on Gansett Island. His father considers selling the hotel and now Mac has to decide, whether he wants to continue his life in Miami or take over the hotel and the family legacy.

There were little things that bothered me but as they were either insignificant or explained in the course of the story, they didn't influence my rating.
An example: Maddie seems overly sensitive and skittish at first and her problem with her large breasts and Mac's reaction is a little weird. Later on, we get to know Maddie better and understand why she acts that way. Maddie has been disappointed many times in her life and thus finds it hard to trust anyone. Also, she has to put up with a lot of cruelty from the Islanders and Mac's mother, in particular.
Not once does Mac have any doubts about his relationship with Maddie and he really has to work for her affection. Something he never had to do before. I loved his steadfastness. His love for Maddie and her son was very evident and constant.

This book was really enjoyable and just made me feel good. There are steamy romance, humor and many other promising characters.
I cannot wait for the second book in the series Fool for Love. This is Janey (Mac's sisters) and Joe's story (Mac's friend). We get to know both of them in Maid for Love and Joe already has a special place in my heart. I really hope to see him get everything he ever dreamed of in Fool for Love .(less)

This series is so perfect for a vacation/beach read. Mac McCarthy is a modern day prince charming. Marie Force is my go to for a feel good book. Her writing is spot on for a fast and easy light hearted read. If your looking for something along the lines of a modern day Cinderella then this one is for you.

This just misses my five star list, for a few reasons, but the value of $2.99 kindle was amazing for this well rounded full story and I will highly recommend it to all my reading friends.

^That conversation made me fall in love with the hero.

One of my favorite speech by Mac:

""This is me, Maddie. It’s who I am. I see something that’ll make you sick with worry, and I make it go away. I love you too much to watch you suffer like that, and you would’ve suffered over this.” He went to her, slid an arm around her waist and brought her in close to him. “You would’ve suffered.”

For a man who said marriage and falling in love wasn't in the cards, he fell hard! Ha!

I couldn't resist one more:

"“You’re the best, Janey.” Mac gave her a noisy smooch on the cheek. She pushed him away. “I hate you more than anything.” He poked her ribs. “Do not.” “I’m off to get a brain scrub to erase this unsavory incident from my memory.” “Come by Maddie’s this weekend. Let’s hang out.” “No way I’m coming near the two of you until the supply is exhausted.” Mac grinned. “We’ll be giving thanks to Janey McCarthy every time.” Hands over ears, she shrieked and stalked off. Mac laughed all the way home.""

I don't know about you but I would never in this or the next hundred lifetimes buy my older brother condoms. Eww!! Haha!

I really enjoyed this book. So much emotion packed in to one story!! Mattie is so strong and has a backbone made of titanium. Mac is such a softy and only wants what is best for Mattie and Thomas and does his best knight-in-shinning-armor thing. Mattie is so used to everything going wrong and people believing the worst in her, she isn't sure how to take Mac, but when they finally do come together, it is pure chemistry. What a cute romance! I am still fairly new to the romance genre (coming from paranormal), but its books like this that make that transition seamless. It has its own magic.

While I found some parts to be far fetched or dramatic, it was never TOO far fetched or dramatic. In other words; I never set the kindle down to roll my eyes and rub my temples. To her surprise, Mac McCarthy insisted on helping her with her job and her baby while she recovers.

Maddie annoyed me at first, because she was so ungrateful, especially since at first it wasn’t made clear why she didn’t like the McCarthys. I just thought she didn’t like them because she was poor and they were rich, so I held a grudge against her. Mac was nothing but caring after he injured her. He even went out to go to her job while she recovered and babysat for her. How can anyone be so nice, right? Maddie, instead of saying thank you, was ungrateful and petty and tried to kick Mac out every chance she got.

However, as the story progressed, it slowly revealed why Maddie held a grudge. I really felt bad for her. Her situation was not her fault, only because people can be judgmental gossips no matter the truth. It’s a good thing Mac was there for her.

The love story is one of the sweetest I’ve read, minus my problem with Maddie. Mac just had that something that drew me to him and made my heart flutter every time he did something sweet for Maddie and her son. Mac is the perfect guy – rich, handsome, and a sweetheart who takes care of his woman.

I also loved the idea of the island. Each of the secondary characters has their own story to be told. I’m a sucker for a warm family like this, but Mac’s family in this one was kind of disappointing in the way they treated Maddie, but that is solved by the end, so the other books promise to be more heartwarming.

If you love contemporary romance with a perfect happy ending, where the hero comes to save the day and give the heroine everything she’s ever wanted and needed, then you should definitely give this one a try!

Maddie Chester, zisă Mattress Chester din cauza unor zvonuri din liceu intenţionat răspândite de unul dintre foştii ei iubiţi, cu care nu a dorit să se culce, este grav rănită din pricina lui Mac McCarthy. El nu se asigură atunci când traversează, iar Maddie, pe bicicletă, îl loveşte, deşi ea este rănită mai rău. Mac se simte responsabil şi îi promite că o să aibă grijă de ea şi de copilul ei de nouă luni, Thomas, în acelaşi timp ţinându-i loc la slujba acesteia, menajeră la hotelul McCarthy. El se mută la Maddie acasă şi între cei doi se înfiripă o poveste de dragoste, ameninţată de familia McCarthy, sora lui Maddie, Tiffany, dar şi de promisiunea femeii de 30 de ani de a nu mai fi călcată în picioare şi dezamăgită de niciun bărbat, vreodată.

Maddie - am iubit-o şi mi-a displăcut în acelaşi timp. Este foarte sensibilă în legătură cu sânii ei, prea mari şi mereu ascunşi în bluze largi. Deoarece s-a dezvoltat la o vârstă fragedă, bărbaţii nu au fost atraşi de personalitatea sau de restul corpului ei, ci doar de ceea ce era în faţă, sânii. La istoria ei dramatică se adaugă şi mama ei, acum în închisoare deoarece a fost reclamată de mama lui Mac pentru nişte chitanţe greşite la hotel şi, de asemenea, tatăl ei şi-a părăsit familia atunci când ea avea doar cinci ani. A fost dezamăgită de persoanele de sex masculin pe tot parcursul vieţii şi s-a culcat doar de două ori, cu acelaşi bărbat, care a lăsat-o însărcinată, a minţit-o şi apoi, a plecat. Ea este retrasă, săracă şi urăşte pe toţi McCarthy, mai ales din cauză că Evan, unul dintre fraţii lui Mac, a fost implicat în zvonurile care i-au distrus viaţa.

Dar Mac se dovedeşte a fi diferit. Este responsabil, iubitor, grijuliu cu Thomas şi ea, nu ascultă părerile celorlalţi şi de mama lui, care este complet convinsă că Maddie nu este destul de bună pentru fiul ei. Mac o iubeşte pe Maddie cu totă fiinţa lui şi face orice este posibil pentru a-i restaura imaginea, chiar dacă este posibil să piardă chiar persoana căreia îi face acest serviciu.

La sfârşit, îmi venea să o strâng de gât pe Maddie. Recunosc că este înfricoşată de a fi iar părăsită şi dezamăgită, dar ea ştia pe adevăratul Mac şi că el nu ar fi putut să o rănească intenţionat, dar ea nu, nu şi nu, că a minţit-o şi că nu poate avea o relaţie cu el din această cauză.

Iar Linda m-a surprins. Cred că schimbarea ei a fost prea bruscă faţă de personalitatea ei de dinainte, deşi stiu că a făcut ceea ce credea ea că este cel mai bine pentru fiul său.

Joe...cel mai bun prieten al lui Mac... mi-ar place să-i citesc şi lui povestea, cred că o să rămână cu Janey, sora mai mică a lui Mac, pe care a iubit-o de foarte mult timp.

A fost o lectură plăcută, perfectă pentru vacanţă , te transpune în lumea aceea, pe insula mică plină de amintiri şi, în final, te lasă cu un zâmbet pe faţă. C:(less)

Mac McCarthy never wanted to come back to live on the Island. Mac & his brothers left for different paths. Mac's sister Janey stayed. as did his parents who own the Inn & Marina. Mac has to take a medical leave from his job in Miami due to stress & an anxiety attack.
