Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy

Lauren Dane is well know for her erotic romances, so I should be clear up front that GODDESS WITH A BLADE is not erotica. It is rightly categorized as an urban fantasy even more than paranormal romance. The sexual content is steamy, but not more so then other titles in the genre.

Now that that’s out of the way, I really enjoyed GODDESS WITH A BLADE once it got going. The beginning was a little rough and the writing a little clunky, but after a few chapte More...

This was my first Lauren Dane read and I can say that I'll be taking a closer look at her back list fairly soon. Goddess with a Blade was an entertaining read, full of Egotistical, Alpha Vampires and Power infused, snarky females.

The premise was interesting. A Goddess chosen -human female- who was raised by vampires. Rowan is a Hunter. A Hunter's job is to find and slay rogue vampires who break the Treaty. The law clearly states -Do More...

It’s been a while since I hit a book that I didn’t like, I knew it was coming. Goddess with a Blade is pure Urban Fantasy and one I didn’t care for. I got this book off of netgalley under romance (they so need a category for UF) and as most of you know romance is what I love, so I figured since I loved Lauren Dane’s Chase brothers this one would be alright, so not, I should have looked on Lauren website before I requested this one ugh. The majority of the book is written in Rownas POV and the ro More...

I really enjoyed reading Goddess With A Blade, it is an urban fantasy/ paranormal romance mix filled with suspense, vampires, romance, and even a Goddess. The heroine in this story is Rowen, a human girl who shares her body with Brigid, a goddess. Because Rowen is the vessel for the Goddess, she is very powerful and strong, and she uses these extra powers to kill vampires who kill and break the law. Rowen is a Hunter, it is her job to keep the supernatural community in line, and she is excellent More...

I had very high hopes for this book in the beginning as it seemed to be going in an excellent direction. Lauren Dane has a great way of writing likeable character's by showcasing not only their strong points and attractiveness, but also in their weak areas and quirky habits too. Goddess With a Blade started out good introducing Rowan Summerwaite, a Vampire Hunter, who lives in Las Vegas and brings the law into her own hands when the vamps are naughty. She, along with her Hunter Association, has More...

Goddess With a Blade is an awesome Urban Fantasy. Rowan Summerwaite is one hard, cold, and kick-butt hunter. But Rowan is also Brigid, a vessel for a Goddess. Her blade is blessed to kill vampires. She’s been placed in Las Vargas by the Hunter Corporation to keep all vampires in line. That means no killing humans. Rowan has to work with a handsome vampire named Clive Stewart, who is the Scion in Las Vegas, and he rules his vampires. He doesn't need any help from Rowan to keep his vampires in lin More...

Rowan Summerwaite is the first true vessel of a Celtic goddess who carries a blade forged and blessed by warrior shamans, created to kill Vampires. With her skills and blade, she is a Hunter, responsible for ensuring the Vampires in Las Vegas uphold the treaty that created the Vampire Nation, preventing them from killing humans. She single-handedly took out the previous worthless and corrupt Scion – leader of the Vampire Nation – and has spent More...

I almost don't know where to start with this review because there were simply so many things I loved about this book. In fact, I'm feeling the love so much I hope I don't embarrass anybody with my effusive gushing.

First things first- Lauren Dane writes amazing characters. Not just in this book, either. Every one of her books has these incredibly strong women who burst out of the pages. You might think it would be a challenge to match these women with men who can meet their strength without being More...

An urban fantasy with vampires and a heroine who's the vessel of an honest to god(-dess) goddess? Sounds pretty intriguing to me. But this novel offers so much more. The world Dane creates is detailed and vibrant. The way her characters lead us through the story shows how much love and work she’s put into this one. But let me start at the beginning.

We meet Rowan Summerwaite in Las Vegas where she hunts the vampires who break the rules and shows them why they s More...

I am not normally a big UF fan, although I do like the usual suspects- Kate Daniels, Cat and Bones, and Mercy Thompson as well as the Chicago Vampires Series. Other ventures into the genre have not been very successful for me as a reader. That said, I kind of had lowered expectation levels for this work even though I am a big fan of Lauren Dane's contemporary novels.

Rowen Summerwaite is a member of the Hunter Council, charged with policing the Vampires who inhabit Las Vegas. She is also the vess More...

Vampire politics and sex. If that had been the sum total of Goddess with a Blade, Lauren Dane's latest book from Carina Press, it would still have been a fun read. But the story turned out to be a bit deeper than I expected, and that made it even better.

The Goddess named in the title is the Celtic Goddess Brigid. Her physical vessel is Rowan Summerwaite. Rowan is also, coincidentally, the licensed vampire hunter for the Las Vegas region. To complicate matters further, Rowan was raised by the lea More...

I actually enjoyed this and would rate it 3.5 (alas no half stars).

The short and sweet of it is: Our story takes us through the brutal serial killings that seem to have been done by a vampire in Las Vegas. Rowan is a triple threat vampire hunter. She is a vampire hunter by birth; was raised by the vampire king and; is the physical embodiment of a goddess. Clive is the new scion of the Las Vegas vampires whose predecessor was killed by Rowan several months earlier. From the outset they have a sn More...

I Liked -- Plot: I have never hidden how much I like Lauren Dane's novels. Her writing pretty much hits the trifecta of a good romance for me: great writing, awesome characters, and insightful plot development. GODDESS WITH A BLADE is really no exception to me. Though the urban fantasy aspect is something that I haven't read from Dane before, there was really nothing that I didn't enjoy.

Lauren Dane has very quickly snuck her way into my retinue of favourite favourite authors this last week. but when I read Goddess with a Blade last night the deal was sealed. Lauren Dane is now a firm favourite and I am quite looking forward to wading through all the books of hers I have yet to read.

This is the first book that I have read by Lauren Dane and I must say that despite several problems, I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. Though Lauren Dane is an Australian author this book is set in Las Vegas. One of the main issues with this book is that Dane has constructed Las Vegas as a Whitetopia. I wonder if this stems from unfamiliarity with the area, or is just another example of people of colour being erased? Las Vegas is a city where a More...

At first it took me a little bit of reading to get into this story. Not because it wasn’t good – it was – but because I had to immerse myself in this new world of Vampires and Hunters that Lauren Dane has created. Once I got caught up in the story though, I could NOT stop reading!

Rowan Summerwaite is different from other heroines I’ve read in this genre. She is the Vessel for the Celtic goddess Brigid and is stronger and quicker than your average human. She even carries a sword blessed by the go More...

A Lot of Story in One Package

Her calling is simple: kill Vampires who kill people, thereby breaking the treaty with Hunter Corp. Her existence is...less so. As Vessel of Celtic triple goddess Brigid, she's something that has existed only a handful of times throughout history. Not human. Faster. Stronger. Gifted with a few magics. And highly trained to be very, very deadly. She is Rowan Summerwaite.

She's loathes Vampires with a singular intensity, so being called to appear before t More...

Goddess with a Blade is the first Urban Fantasy book from the best-selling author Lauren Dane, better known for her erotic and romantic novels, so the romance is light, but the action is fast, and heat keeps getting hotter.

The basic premise is Rowan Summerwaite kicks the butt of vampires that get out of line and kill humans, and somewhere in Vegas is a very, very, bad vampire killing human women in the most nasty of ways. Rowan, of course, has issues, dead parents, was raised by vampires, and is More...

This was the story of Rowan, who is the vessel for the celtic goddess Brigid. She works for the Hunter Corp killing Vampires who have gone Rogue. Clive is Las Vegas's Scion, the man in charged so to speak and works with Rowan to help catch a serial killing vampire who is viscously killing humans.

I absolutely loved this book! It has a good premise and I love a book with deity's in it. Rowan is a great character, she is witty, sarcastic and has a real potty mouth but you can see that she loves her More...

Picking up this book you may just be expecting to read an urban fantasy/paranormal romance, which you do get along with a thriller about a serial killer. The main character Rowan derives her power and vampire hunting skills from a goddess, skills that make her an odd match for the vampire running Las Vegas. Clive keeps his vampires in check but there is one out there breaking the rules, which brings Rowan to his doorstep (and eventually on top of his desk). Clive and Rowan compliment each other More...

Goddess with a Blade by Lauren Dane is a slightly different twist on the standard vampire slayer urban fantasy. Rowan Summerwaite is not only a kick-ass, snarky heroine, but also the living vessel for the Celtic Goddess Bridget. Also, she was actually raised by vampires.

OMG, I loved this! I read it in one sitting. Rowan Summerwaite is a Goddess-blessed Hunter who makes sure that the Vampires don't break the law and if they do she hands out swift justice with her Goddess-blessed blade. Rowan's snarky personality and her goddess-given powers were awesome! Clive Stewart is the Scion, the head of the Vampires in Las Vegas. From the moment they meet they rub each other the wrong way which is to say it's hot and super-charged. They're perfect for each other and both More...

Lauren Dane should write more Urban Fantasy books if this is any indication on how captivating she does it. I fell in love with this group of fun characters that are involved in Rowan’s life. She is the vessel of a real life goddess who is still worshipped in Ireland. Many in her paranormal circles know who is she and respect and fear her if they are vampires because she is also a hunter. A hunter’s job is to make sure vampires uphold to the laws in the treaty.

The events in this book take place More...

Since this wasn't one of Lauren Dane's typical romance novels, I wasn't sure whether or not I'd like it. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the novel! I truly enjoyed it. It falls under the Urban Fantasy category (which I never read), but it does have a small element of romance to it. The main character, Rowan, reminded me a bit of Buffy. She's a strong, capable, vampire hunter (ie. slayer) who knows how to throw out those witty remarks to her adversaries. While the character reminded me of More...

Favorite Lines: “Vampires, Goddess, you’re all fourteen-year-old girls.” (p. 139)

Lauren Dane successfully takes on vampires and goddesses in her latest book, Goddess with a Blade. In a short, well told romance, Dane introduces the slightly more than human woman Rowan. She is a smart ass, take what she wants while hiding her feelings kind of gal. I love her sharp humor and her comments about the men in her life being teenage girls left me laughing and nodding my head in agreement. Her love intere More...

Goddess With A Blade is a great book that has magic, Irish lore, vampires and many “other” factors that make it a wonderful read that I hope turns into a series.

This story is about Rowan Summerwaite who is not only a physical vessel to a goddess (Brigid) but also a world class Hunter of rogue vampires. She was raised by The First (Theo) who is "The" head Vampire in charge as well as her foster father. She was also shown the ways of the goddess' while she was growing up as it was her parents wis More...

This gets 4.8 stars for being an incredible read for my first Lauren Dane novel. I loved the pacing of the book, loved the characters, and loved the language used throughout. I don't know if Lauren Dane was ever a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, but I could see elements of a mature Faith and Giles in the two main characters. Definitely a compliment & even better if the author had never seen the show :P

This is a hard one to write. So much happened in the book (which at times I’m still scratching my head over) and I really, really wanted to love this book, that I’m torn as to what I should put on the page.

Rowan Summerwaite works for the Hunter Corporation, which is a policing force to ensure Vampires are remaining within the confines of the treaty. If that weren’t enough, she’s also the vessel for the Goddess Brigid.

This cover drew me in. Good urban fantasy story. Not as fast paced as I would have liked. It is a short book after all. When we are served up some action tis' very nice.

Not this mind blowing, but it has it's moments.

Still really enjoyed it. The lead, Rowan, is very mouthy. Kinda' bitchy too. I like that in a female character. Gives personality. If only it had less politics! Hate politics. She is also in service to a goddess. That was a double edged sword for me. It was a good twist, More...
