With all the vampire, werewolf and faerie books out there, it's easy to become numb to all things supernatural. The antidote? Darkhouse introduces two real and unforgettable characters, Perry Palomino & Dex Foray, amateur ghost hunters who are "attractive, relatable and oddly heroic," "flawed but loveable," "slightly crazy" and just the most endearing pair to ever tack...more

Horror was never more exciting...

A dark, twisted, and gothic read. An Alfred Hitchcock movie scenario. Sadly, he is dead and can't make it another masterpiece. Karina Halle has nothing to envy and with this series she firmly finds her place between the masters of horror and thrillers, amongst my all-tim...more

This well written horror story will suck you in from the first page.
It's creepy, not scary.......yet.
It's freakin' hilarious

With two wackjob characters that keep on suprising me. They make some stupid, eyerolling decisions, which will make you love them even more!!

By mixing in elements of horror, humor, romance, and action, this Experiment In Terror is a complete success!

Working at a job she can't stand and living with a family who doesn't understand her, Perry Palomino is having trouble finding her place in the world. Maybe that's why she finds herself drawn to other things that don't quite belong in this world as well. Shadowy horrors invade her dreams, and a haunted lighthouse beacons her. When her investigation into the strange lighthouse leads her to...more

A great first novel of the series ‘Experiment in Terror’!!

I didn’t know what to expect with this book, I have never read anything by Karina Halle before but since it was highly rated by a lot of people, I thought I would give it a shot.

I wasn’t disappointed!

Darkhouse was my first book by Karina Halle and I was pleasantly surprised with her intriguing style of writing. She made me laugh, made me feel scared and created very different, original and interesting characters in this book. I like when authors are able to use the right amount of sarcasm in theirs stories, and Karina Halle definitely knows how to do that. I never watch horror movies but I love reading horror stories. It has been quite a long time since I read some horror so I am very gratef...more

OMG !!!! When i started reading this one , i was'nt sure if this was a 5 star read at all . I'll tell you why , because it started out really slow and somewhat irritating . Well i'm not really sure about the irritating part , must have been the med's i took to get rid of this flu that i've been down with but anywhoo this book was totally not i expected it to be . Its scary , its funny , its adventurous , its got a little steam too building up on the Main Characters - Perry and Dex , in short its...more

WOW!!! I LOVED IT!!!!!!!! Definitely *****5 CHILLING STARS*****!!!!!

I've had this series on my shelf for a while now, and thanks to some very persistent GR pimpers I finally got started on it. And boy am I glad I did!!!! What a fantastic opening book to the series. Now I'm not sure what genre this is listed as... but I'm calling it paranormal romance, for my own purposes!!

Anyway, what a fantastic storyline!!! Perry Palomino, is a 22 year old girl from the Pacific Coast of Oregon. She is not your...more

Lil' buddy read with Her Highness La Lionne. :D

Refreshing scary story. Loved everything about it. Felt like I was right there with the characters.

I really love Perry, but I just wish she was tougher. I mean, she faces the supernatural heroically, but when a stupid son of a bitch calls her fat, she bursts into tears and runs away like a little girl. Come on, show some self-respect!

Dex...oh Dex, you're something else entirely! Out of this world. I think you're a supernatural being too. I think yo...more

Coming highly recommended by so many friends, I couldn't resist from checking out this creeptastic looking series any longer. All you need to convince me, really, is to tell me it has ghosts--and these are not the sweet ghosts you can fall in love with either (which I will never be fond of), these are evil: truly and relentlessly evil.

Having been reading a lot of Young Adult novels, it was a nice change to get a protagonist that's a bit older. At 22 years old, Perry is dealing with an unfulfilli...more

I have to say that Darkhouse definitely was an interesting story! While I wasn't blown away by it, it was definitely a captivating story with some creepy moments! It wasn't quite what I expected, but I still ended up really enjoying it.

I did end up a bit disappointed though, after seeing all the raving reviews and not quite feeling the hype yet. I also had that feeling of when you're aware y...more

Lynsey: Well, as recommendations go, this was certainly a winner!

I'd had this book on my TBR for a while and had snapped it up as a Kindle Freebie. I was vaguely aware of a good buzz surrounding it, but was ultimately convinced to bump it to the top of my list when Janice said the immortal words, "you have to meet Dex."

I really loved this book!! It was so good!! I don't normally read scary supernatural books, but I'm glad I took a chance with this one. This book really reminded me of the show "Supernatural" with all the creepy and fascinating elements in the story.

I loved Perry!!! She is just like your average 22 year old trying to figure out her place in the world. I like the fact that the author didn’t make her perfect and she has flaws like every other girl.

WOOHOO!! A brilliant start to a series that immediately has me hooked, and which I am sure will become a firm favourite.

The story has just the right amount of thrills, but it's also seriously funny. It also has a bit of an alternative feel to it with main characters that are not your standard. They are slightly crazy and wonderfully flawed, and that’s why I love them so much.

Perry is 22 years old, and coming off some very out of control teen years. She’s not rail-thin, she doesn’t have her lif...more

This is my favorite adult series EVER! Dex and Perry are some of the most well-written, complex, and realistic characters. Their chemistry jumps off the page and into your heart. Karina Halle is so immensely talented, and I will read anything and everything she writes. If you haven't read this series, I would HIGHLY recommend that you read it IMMEDIATELY! Ok, so I don't do scary movies..call me what you want...I'm a baby. Whatever. I don't care. I started reading this book because a friend asked me to. There were so many points in this book where I was seriously creeped the eff out! Not kidding!

I wanted to quit reading so many times, but I persevered! I felt I owed it to myself and my friend to stick it out. I'M NOT A QUITTER! In the end, I'm glad I stuck it out, as scared as I was...and as much as I hate to admit it...I'm afraid, I'll be moving...more

I'm one of those people that aren't a big fan of horror movies... well, i must correct, just many of those movies that made nowadays, all gore and who makes the most disgusting scenes ever.
However i'm a fan of horror/thrillers , like Hitchcock movies...the whole atmosphere of those movies are just creepy and awesome.
And why I'm talking about movies in a book review? Well because Karina Halle is one of those authors, whose stories feels like cinematographic to me. And just let me say, this one wo...more

"If you want to be all like smart and adult about this shit then do the right thing. But if you want to do something fun and take a chance, then screw what anyone else thinks. Rock and roll, man!”

There's something about reading a Karina Halle book that makes me feel like a rockstar. Like I'm not trapped in a ridiculously repetitive life somewhere and I can do crazy things like wear my Wednesday undies on a Monday. Or heck, just ditch the undies altogether, never minding the bollocks.

Here's the deal, I'm a big baby when it comes to being scared. I don't like that feeling. So, when I originally participated in the tour for this series through AToMR, I decided not to read the book and did an excerpt instead. Then, I started talking to my BFF's and they all LOVED the series. They assured me that, yes, there some scary parts, but it's more mystery/suspense. So, when I got tour information again, I decided to take the plunge. BOY OH BOY am I glad I did! This is the first book in...more

Review 12/31 - I have since read this book (series) 2 times. Karina Halle is a genius author. If you aren't reading EIT what the heck are you waiting for?

Review from 10/24 - I was hesitant to give this book a try because i'm really not all that into paranormal/supernatural romance genre but...Wow! This book definitely surprised me! I so love Perry and I'm totally intrigued by Dex. Starting book 2 right away! Can't wait to see how the relationship of Dex and Perry progresses!!

I'm not normally much for horror books, but I've recently been trying to loosen my rabid grip on all things romance. Turns out, I truly tend to need it to stay interested. Wow, that was scary good. If this is still a freebie, grab it!

I'm usually a wimp when it comes to horror books but Dark House was virtually impossible to put down.

While visiting her uncle's Oregon coast home, Perry decides to explore the abandoned lighthouse on the property. The lighthouse is old, damp and moldy. It's quite creepy inside with the requisite noises that old homes and properties make. Perry bumps into Dex, a blog show producer and cameraman. He has sneaked into the lighthouse to...more

Every once in a while I stumble across an author that just completely takes me by surprise in a wonderful, squee-inducing way. This time, it was Karina Halle.
